  • this could be done as a composite and be as light but twice the strength and water proof--you paint it all over with epoxy coats..then- glass both inside and outside..and it would last forever and be mega strong...try a small model and see.!! totally composite and bet it would work great--lets band together to free us from the tyranny of expensive yachts and make well built cheap yachts for the common man!!

  • that is sweet. Im making one

  • wow it floats!

  • using the same materials a boat could be constructed that lasts even longer if the sealing agent were boiled and impregnated into the cardboard at pressure. The same way they make green treated wood you can make water proof cardboard!

  • Wow with a coat of fiber glass youve just make something that will last forever ,great video.

  • It looks like it is made from wood after it's finished, but before it's painted!

  • @lillianrhiannon technically, IT IS. LoL

  • Como conseguir o plano?

  • Do you have the plans? I would love to try this out!!!

  • I would love to see some plans for this boat way to go very cool!!!!

  • all of the boat parts are from cardboard?

  • @Amarynthine Yep all the parts were cardboard. The bulkheads we 4 layers thick of double corrigate. Thanks

  • @didgeplayer About how much money was this to make?

  • @Amarynthine how long did this take u?

  • now you can escape from alcatraz!!!! IMPRESSIVE~!!!

  • do u only cover it with sealer paint or something else?

  • @dayworld26 I just used about 4 coats of tremclad rust paint. The water beaded right off.

  • I just saw your wood lathe vid and think it has a partial answer to my previous question. Looks like the boat probably used a centrifugal force system, neat stuff !

  • Sorry to hear about Loomis, I like his creativity though. I see the pulley attached to something in the back; but how exactly do you steer and propel without oars? Is there a spring involved, and is there more than one cable to the back? Do you use a hand controlled rudder? Thanks for the post.

  • @CaptnMayhem Yeah there are two cables running to the back. one is the pull cable and the other is attached to a bungy cord to recoil the cable back on the back stroke. The prop is mounted on a lower unit at the back and since the steel cables can bend and flex the whole prop and rudder turn together with a lever running down the side of the boat. You can turn the prop 90 degrees and make the boat spin is you want.

    Thanks

  • @didgeplayer very interested in this propulsion system, where can I get more info on it? check out my peddle powered canoe too if you want

  • I have to build a cardboard boat for a project, if i put too much card board on it, will it sink

  • @Foxpink31993 It all depends on the shape and how water proof the boat is.

  • is it fast

  • @stephen5arms I could get her up to about 20 km/h in a straightaway.

  • so how long does it last before it falls apart. because if it would only last like one good time then im not intrested but if it can last a whole season or close to it then i wanna build one for fishin

  • @andrew0901280 This boat lasted me 4 300 meter races over 4 years. It would have lasted longer if I had of checked the weather more. I left it outside sitting open side up in a rain storm and the water found a way in. lol. You could for sure make one that would last longer.

  • @didgeplayer hhhmmm ya i think im gonna give it a try but fiberglass the hole thing inside and out and just use the cardboard as a frame. heck of alot cheaper than anything else ive found

  • So essentially all you need is an Xacto knife, glue, duct tape and like 50-100 boxes? AWESOME!

  • wow!

  • How did you get such thick cardboard?

  • @Wukeywukey All of the cardboard is 1/4" thick double ply cardboard. The Ribs and Bulkheads are made by gluing 4 sheets together and then cutting out the profiles.

    Thanks

  • @didgeplayer No, thank you! Me and some of my friends are making one, I'll tell you how I do! Thanx again!!!!

  • i want to know how u make it go.???

  • awsome boat i never would have been able to do that...so cool!

  • im going to one of these competitions in a few months and I was wondering how you sealed the boat (made it water tight), like what kind of sealant did you use?

  • Tremclad Rust Paint. :)

Where is the race you are going to?

  • WOW! How can I compete with this?? Great job!

  • Thanks! Have a good one!
