Video fundamental para quem gosta de musica eletronica. Tudo que veio depois foi em razão do trabalho deles e do brilhante trabalho de jenny ao criar o ondiolino.

No no no you can not fool me mr. Perrey! You simply went forward in time, bought a laptop, a midi keyboard and a stack of cd's with VSTs and went back in time again so this video can be made..I mean you must have, otherwise I'm so freakin' scared by your genius...
Is Perrey simply trying to make it look like he's playing the weird animal sounds on the Ondioline on his right? The sounds are still there when he's not touching it, and at one point it seems that he's 'playing' the sweeping whistle sounds by running his finger up and down the casing... ?
This isn't the only TV performance by Perrey and Kingsley. I first saw them on the NY children's show Wonderama. Perhaps that appearance was during the same tour since both shows were in NY. I've been a fan ever since. Mr. Perrey's recordings are the closest you'll come to finding pure joy on a CD.
I wouldn't say Steve Allen "guest-hosted" this episode of "I've Got a Secret", because he took over that show in 1964, after original host Garry Moore [temporarily] retired, and remained its host until its end in 1967, then did a remake of it for TV syndication in 1972.
I'm just started using synths about 10 years ago to accompany me on Native American Flute. It is really cool to see some of the early work. What I wonder is if these sounds with such fine qualities of expression were do-able back in the 60's, why aren't such sounds more commonplace now? It seems like there are still a lot of cheesy string sounds and flat hollow sax sounds in popular music. Or was this more a reflection of the talent of these men?
That's absolutely brilliant! It sounds like he multiple sounds mapped to one of the Ondiolines to create the percussion, but how does it continue throughout the song?
@happymoogman It's a Clavinet I or II, the brown wooden ones that predate the white/red C model. They did indeed exist then, invented by German Ernst Zacharias for Hohner.

@OskarEnghoff - The ondioline has a resistance wire in front of the keyboard. Like a kind of stone age ribbon controller.

@organfairy Wow, I had no idea. Thanks for the heads up.

I can't believe that Bill Cullen and Henry Morgon don't remember Mr. Perrey from the 1960 visit! Bill Cullen even wanted an Ondioline!!!!

In a game show related matter, Perrey-Kingsley's "The Savers" was used for the theme for "The Joker's Wild".

GREAT!

@Vanopelli
I think it's a reflection of their talent. It's not that the sounds themselves are so convincing - it's that Perry plays them so well.

Is that an early Clavinet, model C that Kingsley is playing? In 1968 I used to stack one on top of my B-3, pre-ELP.
OrganCat 2 years ago
Hi Ike, I believe is was some kind of RMI clavinet. This was 1966. I don't think the Hohners came out until later.
