Frank Bruno was one of the biggest failures to come out of British boxing. His biggest claim to fame was that he stunned Tyson in a title fight, if he'd been any good he would have followed up with a knock out punch. I think this "Title Fight" was just a long service award!
There wasnt much boxing being done by Frank in this fight. More wrestling and generally spoiling. I liked Frank Bruno..Who didnt? but i have to say i dont think his performance was deserved of a world title.
To become a boxing champion you need to be an excellent boxer. But there are many times that you and your opponent will have a close fight and that’s the time where the other people who support you for their own reason (which is mostly money) comes along and change the out com. Sometimes boxers speed and stamina will be affected with underground doping that is not known to others just to fulfill the needs of some.
Boxing at this level is usually fixedI reckon - the promoters knew that Frank winning was the jackpot. The referee barely did anything about the holding in the last round.

I think if Bruno wasn't so musclebound and was a lighter heavyweight he could of been more successful. He had good power and a pretty good chin but his plodding style cost him against Lewis and Tyson.
If one guy deserved to be a world champion it was Frank Bruno..That was his last crack of the whip, and he so deserved to come through. You did your country proud Frank, and the people love you..Atrue role model in every sense of the word.. Bless you Frank..
i cant help but watch nigel ben in the background lol, he almost wants to get in there `and rook lol well done frank, you deserved to be a champion in my eyes
Frank Bruno is such an inspiration. He knew that he was limited at world level but his tactics for this fight was spot on and he showed a lot of guts to finally win the world title after 3 brave, but failed attempts. Bruno is in the history books! RESPECT!
Top bloke was more or less a body builder had to much muscle on his frame & that hurt his stamina but was delighted he win the title as he deserved it, a true gentleman.
@wantpussyinclub no it was sky kid look it up, i watched it on sky ppv. when it pans out to the stadium shot when frank got the descision you can see the sky signs above the ring.
One of the greatest moments in British sporting history. We love an underdog we followed Frank for years and he was destined to be he nearly man, but his exhausted face when they have announced he has done is incredibly emotional. A nation has never had a stronger affinity to any boxer. Brunoooooooo!
dont think nigel benn sat down that enitre night. frank deserved it. one of the best performances of a heavyweight in recent years. boxed incredibly well
Haye, Hide,Lewis..... none of these fighters had the love and respect of the british public like Frank Bruno did. Still gives me goosebumps when I hear 'the NEW heavyweight champion'. True Legend, nice one Frank
The announcers call Bruno's holding "clever," but it was really pretty shameful toward the end. The referee should have stepped in more (is he by any chance British?).
@djk28161 BooHoo Born in the USGAY music gets played lol stupid American rugby on the lasers, and he took a whooping to add insult to injury he had to listen to our music = OWNED. This is why USGAY fighters don't fight here because they get whooped lol.
Why play the "Macho Man Randy Savage's music??... Maybe a big elbow from the top rope would of helped Wank Bruno in his 1st title defence against Mike Tyson...?
Frank bruno did not have a glass jaw,he was never sparked with one punch like lewis,or hatton(thats a glass jaw).Bonecrusher, witherspoon, tyson, lewis all had to hit him with everything they had to make him go down, because he was one of the toughest heavywieghts. He always took a punch to well and didnt go down when he should of,the one time he did(against tyson, first time round)he stood up and nearly took tysons head off and nearly caused the biggest upset ever.FACT!
I'm American, and this happened years before I became a boxing fan, but I just love the way the UK embraced and how he was a source of pride even though he wasn't a top p4p fighter. He tried his best and that was enough for people to love him, and want him representing the country. We could use a bit of that here, but the USA is just so cutthroat and so big we as a nation very rarely unanimously get behind anything or anyone. The only example I can really remember is Louis/Schemling II. Boxing.
@boxing2012 I wouldn't read too much into that in the grand scheme of things. Yes the UK did take Bruno to their hearts, but generally we (generally not me specifically) like to build up our sports stars, only to knock them right of their perch when they don't turn out be the very best. I think the best example for this is the England Football (Soccer) Team..
@counterstriving so by your logic, if one boxer is ahead for 11 rounds but gets caught in the 12th but hangs on, the lucky punch in the 12th should be the winner? What's the boxing like in your world?
@Eldomina22 If one fighter is behind for 11 rounds and knocks the other guy out in the 12th, he gets the victory (whether or not it was a "lucky punch"); so I'm saying that in the same situation if he ALMOST knocks out his man then it's tough to see the other guy get the win.
I like boxing to be more about fighting, not just "winning rounds," e.g. skillfully avoiding your opponent and throwing more jabs than he does. So to me the later rounds are more important. But I accept the game as it is.
I think Frank Brunos record speaks for itself,a truly gr8 career, in an era where there were some decent heavyweights..this moment still gives me goosebumps.Heart of a Lion..
connymat - Bruno fought Lewis, Witherspoon, Tyson twice. They were world champion boxers, remember McCall beat Lewis. Bruno was underated although not in the top echelon.
bruno terrible you prat he was giving lewis a very very lot trouble untill the 8th and winning and was the first to hurt tyson, who knocked lewis out umm mcall you idiot
didn't know that the ko'd Lewis but stil don't change my mind about Bruno. he was not a good heavy weight and most people only supported him because they liked him as a celebrity..
@steeky147 And Bruno won every round against Lewis until he got KO'ed, he wasnt brilliant and like you say the public just loved him but any boxer who can perform at heavy weight the way he did is legit boxing is damn hard work I do it myself you have to give pros some credit, give it a try yourself and see how hard it actually is.
@METAL1ON ..I never said that boxing was easy, but I disagree. if you actually think Bruno was a great heavy weight then you are wrong. he was terrible but just popular because the public longed for an English world heavy weight champion so they'd have something to boast about.
Bruno's finest hour. I 've always like Frank, and though I'm not British I never could figure out why the Brits embraced Lewis, (a Jamacian or Canadian) over Frankie.
Why did Frank Bruno get a gong just because he was good at punching people? I'm brilliant at it but the most I've ever got is 200 hours community service.
He did the great north run when i was a kid and i shot out like a bolt from under me mam and he stopped cuddeled me and shook my hand and said in his huge cockney accent "owight little man" total 100 percent hero, not the best boxer we have had but defo the biggest heart. Cheers frank
The single greatest moment in Boxing history for me. I love watching the greats, Lewis, Mayweather, Pacman. None of them had my undying support live Bruno had. When he won, we all won for taking that journey with him. You're a legend Frank.
@sandmbmx Whats even funnier is that whereas Bruno had God Save The Queen played for him, Someone (I think it was Ali Woodson) came out and sang The Star Spangled Banner. I swear, Don King was not afraid to wave the American flag in the face of English fans with that gesture. It was also disrespectful.
@sandmbmx I dont find nothing funny about someone at another country representing their home country.. Other nationalities do it all the time everyday over here in America so why not do it elsewhere
Bruno was never an uncle tom. That was Just a slur on his charactor but in reality Frank Bruno was , and still is, the peoples Champion !!!!!! And he was a good boxer that was only beaten by world champions. And a legend!!!!!!
@FreckletonBoy his right cross would make you dead. bruno was a boxing world champion. do you think that they just hand out belts like they do in that pretend wrestling bullshit.
on your channel you have got videos of the rock, what about him does he have a good right cross. from know on try not to argue with grown ups
@mrbozwellblue I have a video of the Rock's training regime because he's in great shape and has a background in American Football. A cross from Bruno would indeed do me some serious damage, what with him being a professional boxer and all! No 'they' don't hand out belts, but beating a drugged up has been for a title, and losing it in your first defense, does not a great boxer make. If you want to debate boxing with me, then give it your best shot, I look forward to it.
@mrbozwellblue Whatever, that's up to you. But don't tell someone they are wrong, when they can back up their argument, and all you can do is attack their character.
how can you back up your argument if you think because bruno lost his first defence it makes him a poor fighter then i was wright to attack your character because anyone can critique but it takes heart to stand up and and take the chance of loosing. everybody looses in the end if they keep going long enough. if tyson rated bruno as his number one victory who are you to say shit
@FreckletonBoy it is the courage, will to keep trying that people love about frank bruno i cant think of anyone else i know who would get ko'd by mike tyson and go for another fight with him,and how many people have lost theyre first title attempt and stayed in the top 10 for 3 more shots eventually winning it,its his spirit and determination that makes him a legend, but i agree he is not a great fighter
frank bruno was too full of himself and was always way out of his depth against the american boxers!!! he only beat oliver mccall because mccall slept for most of their fight and even then very nearly knocked him out!!! a cheap points decision for Bruno!!
britain really should try to forget this " champion" since what he won really does'nt do the nation any credibility!!! Weakest world heavyweight in history!!!
@cv003799. one of brunos jabs would kill you before you hit the ground.
Tyson himself said that beating bruno was the best victory of his life. All i will say is that you must be one hell of a boxer yourself to be able to pick holes in a world champion. why dont you post the link to your title fight. so we can hate on you.
@mrbozwellblue First off, Tyson never said that. If he did, provide a link. Secondly, one doesn't have to be a boxer to critique a professional - if that was the case, punditry wouldn't exist.
@FreckletonBoy first off, how the fuck do you know what tyson has said, are you god or just a tyson expert. type .Mike Tyson on Bruno/Hayee in to youtube and you will learn that you are wrong.
next time before you call someone a liar at least check what you are saying.
@mrbozwellblue Come on; Frankie was slow and cumbersome. When Tyson fought him Mike got all overcome with showing who was strongest. If Mike had boxed properly Frank wouldn't have lasted 2 rounds.
bruno desearved to hold one of the belts before he retired i dont recall bruno ever being beat by a bum and he was the first boxer to hurt tyson and that was when hurting tyson was a claim to fame. bruno will always be loved in england he done us proud and he is definately on the list of great boxers to come from britain.
oliver mcall was a retard ,bruno was a nice guy but lacked quality .

Delighted for Frank a really nice man & champ, on the other hand that Mc Call was a total cheese dick of a champion.

Frank Bruno had one of the best right crosses in boxing history. His straight punches are fast and crushing!
expressivechild 1 year ago
@expressivechild One of the best right crosses?! Jesus.
FreckletonBoy 1 year ago
@FreckletonBoy his right cross would make you dead. bruno was a boxing world champion. do you think that they just hand out belts like they do in that pretend wrestling bullshit.
on your channel you have got videos of the rock, what about him does he have a good right cross. from know on try not to argue with grown ups
mrbozwellblue 1 year ago
@mrbozwellblue I have a video of the Rock's training regime because he's in great shape and has a background in American Football. A cross from Bruno would indeed do me some serious damage, what with him being a professional boxer and all! No 'they' don't hand out belts, but beating a drugged up has been for a title, and losing it in your first defense, does not a great boxer make. If you want to debate boxing with me, then give it your best shot, I look forward to it.
FreckletonBoy 1 year ago
@FreckletonBoy . not looking for a debate friend,
Just hate people ripping into someone i look up to.
mrbozwellblue 1 year ago
@mrbozwellblue Whatever, that's up to you. But don't tell someone they are wrong, when they can back up their argument, and all you can do is attack their character.
FreckletonBoy 1 year ago
how can you back up your argument if you think because bruno lost his first defence it makes him a poor fighter then i was wright to attack your character because anyone can critique but it takes heart to stand up and and take the chance of loosing. everybody looses in the end if they keep going long enough. if tyson rated bruno as his number one victory who are you to say shit
mrbozwellblue 11 months ago
@FreckletonBoy it is the courage, will to keep trying that people love about frank bruno i cant think of anyone else i know who would get ko'd by mike tyson and go for another fight with him,and how many people have lost theyre first title attempt and stayed in the top 10 for 3 more shots eventually winning it,its his spirit and determination that makes him a legend, but i agree he is not a great fighter

frank bruno ... gotta luv him
oldgonzo22 1 year ago
frank bruno was too full of himself and was always way out of his depth against the american boxers!!! he only beat oliver mccall because mccall slept for most of their fight and even then very nearly knocked him out!!! a cheap points decision for Bruno!!
britain really should try to forget this " champion" since what he won really does'nt do the nation any credibility!!! Weakest world heavyweight in history!!!
nicky29031977 1 year ago
@nicky29031977 Hows he the weakest heavyweight ever?? sounds like your to full of your country so stfu..
vildanius 1 year ago
@vildanius it was the british tabloids who said he was one of the weakest!!! not just my words!!!
nicky29031977 1 year ago
@vildanius he was fucking awful and untill valuev he w\as the worst heavyweight champion ever
cv003799 1 year ago
@cv003799. one of brunos jabs would kill you before you hit the ground.
Tyson himself said that beating bruno was the best victory of his life. All i will say is that you must be one hell of a boxer yourself to be able to pick holes in a world champion. why dont you post the link to your title fight. so we can hate on you.
mrbozwellblue 1 year ago
@mrbozwellblue First off, Tyson never said that. If he did, provide a link. Secondly, one doesn't have to be a boxer to critique a professional - if that was the case, punditry wouldn't exist.
FreckletonBoy 1 year ago
@FreckletonBoy first off, how the fuck do you know what tyson has said, are you god or just a tyson expert. type .Mike Tyson on Bruno/Hayee in to youtube and you will learn that you are wrong.
next time before you call someone a liar at least check what you are saying.
mrbozwellblue 1 year ago
@mrbozwellblue Come on; Frankie was slow and cumbersome. When Tyson fought him Mike got all overcome with showing who was strongest. If Mike had boxed properly Frank wouldn't have lasted 2 rounds.
wtw88 1 year ago
@wtw88 sorry to state the obvious but how do you know that? its boxing therefore you always got a punchers chance.
