  • La Traviata... the drinking song I believe! Awesome cultured flash mob antics.

  • This video and the one in Tel Aviv are my favorites. I comeback a lot to them too. Yes, and I teared up too. If this is an easy way to get people more interested in the arts, let's do more and more.

  • Wow!.... Amazing!

    I LOVE Opera!

  • BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very nice

  • Touched

  • One thing I inherited from my late dad is the love for music. He often cried when he listened to opera or classical music and so do I.

That video made me cry again. I wish we had performances like that in Athens.

  • I find myself returning to this video whenever I need a little extra sparkle and enjoyment. The mixed responses of the unsuspecting crowd are also intriguing, ranging from those who allow themselves to be pulled into the music and those who are baffled, turn away or appear frustrated. Neither opera nor spontaneity are for everyone, which is fine, but I was encouraged to see how many turned this into a playful moment.

  • That was amazing.

  • SPETTACOLO!!! :-)

  • In these times of mediocrity and distress... Let's change the Worl together through the beauty that we as humas are able to create. Let's find the inner good inside all of us and bring it out. Fernando (Madrid Spain)

  • oh wow....the power of people and music put together: pure joy! WONDERFUL!!!

  • Great! A very creative idea. And the songs are wonderful, too.

  • The Banner said "See, how you like Opera"

  • Superb and breathtakingly wonderful!

  • que emoción!!

  • SEE SEE HOW THEY WERE DRAWN AS IF MOTHS TO A FLAME?

    WOW!!!

  • How eloquently beautiful--how enriching to our lives and a perfect example of the best of the human condition. The man and the woman in tears had it right, it IS moving. More opera in the marketplace!

  • BELLO, HERMOSO, SUBLIME!

  • God bless all of you who bring us the joy of music!!!

  • I cried...when people are great! ...so rare.....

  • Man how I wished we witnessed something like this, this was incredible.

  • Wonderful! Just wonderful!

Would have loved to be there.

  • Was für ein Quatsch. Kein Wagner...

    Incredible wonderful!!!

  • Just wonderful!

  • Be great if in the future there was Sextet from Lucia di Lammermoor, or maybe the finale of the first act of 1 of Italiana in Algeri!

  • If you are looking for an argument to restore the historic market halls of the 19th and early 20th century in Europe, here it is! Just an awesome moment!

  • I suspect the dislikes on this video were only mis-steps by hitting the wrong tab as too many videos I've liked, I've done. wish there were an easy way to correct this, but youtube is too big to make this readiably available. (sorry for my misspellings)

  • Just look and "really" think about the affect that music has on people. Everyone came together - how wonderful is that!?!

  • My goodness, "Violetta" was hugh..........how could I dance with her in Brindisi !

  • Wonderful! I just love seeing the people's surprised and delighted reactions! My first experience seeing this done in a market is this video. I've since seen other videos of it done at malls and markets and while the camera work here is much better, the sound isn't that great and that's a shame because the "Brindisi" is such fun. Still, thanks for posting it. I wish we could have more of this uploaded. Any possibilities of that? : )

  • Just a wonderful video. Wish I could have been there.

  • awesome!!!!!!

  • What a wonderful experience. In my mind, truly touched by the muse!

  • amazing!!!

  • Lindo, muito lindo! São Paulo, Brasil.

  • SUPERB! Wish we had performance like this around here.

  • Joyous!

  • Music has such power to bring joy!

  • What a lovely and uplifting thimg to do!

  • Now that's how you bring opera to the people.

  • THIS IS GENIOUS!!!!!!!

    OMG I LOVE IT!!!

Can someone tell me The Name of this Very BEAUTIFUL DUET?!! Where is it from?

    I LOVE IT!!!!

  • @handeltenor Both selections are from La Traviata. The first one is "Parigi o'cara" from the last act. Then they go into "Brindisi" from the first act.

  • This is absolutely wonderful. It's amazIng seeing people who may not be "opera listeners" watching transfixed.

  • Opera companies around the country ought to be doing something like this in their communities. Great classical opera need to be available to the general population. The audience response shows you how much good music is appreciated.

  • It was great! It looked like the entire mercado was listening. Bravo!

  • Magnificent. I wish I had been there. I, too, was moved to tears. Music lovers of the world unite!

  • BRAVO, BRAVISSIMO...

  • I'm overwhelmed with joy at hearing this! Just astounding. Just lovely beyond words. But the thing that hits me the MOST about it. Is that these gods of music, these wonderful performers walk around us every day and could be very ordinary looking. If we pay whatever it costs to go see an opera, we go to that certain place, sit on those seats and enjoy for a few pleasurable moments. But to think that these wondrous performers are walking around us each day.

  • Like other here, I'm not a great opera fan. This, however, took me by surprise. I cried. Me. And I'm not given to crying a lot. This touched a nerve. Especially the people at the end:

The man who wiped away a tear. The woman who smiled at the camera as she too, dabbed at her watery eyes.

What a great idea for the arts. I'm an actor.

We NEED THIS MORE OFTEN! It tingles the spine and stirs interest.

And it works. Now I know this is by Verdi!

  • Does anyone knows the name oif the last soprano with the black dress

  • @pdomett She's definitely got a nice pair of boobs.

  • Wonderful! We wish we would have been there! Thanks for posting :-)

  • woow que impresion!!!!

  • sorry it was not there when I was

  • That's my Valencia!! Love it!!

    Sheylola

  • they start with a duet from act III of La Traviata "parigi o cara"...then the "Libiamo" chorus from act I.

    love it =)

  • @johnmic64

"parigi, o cara" , a duet from verdi's la traviata

  • thanks!

  • Valencia is in Spain...

  • Magnificio!!!! I love this duet as one of my favorites!!

  • BRAVOOOOOO.

  • Bravissimo e ancoreeeeeeeeeee

    vicky

  • This is for promoting opera. The banner at the end says: "Do you see? You like the opera!" It is a wonderful way of doing it.

  • Absolutely beautiful and moving! I know Brindisi was the second song, can you tell me the name of the first song please? I want to be able to find it elsewhere--is it also from LaTraviata?

Thank you for sharing this! I was in tears.

  • Yes, it is "Parigi o cara" from La Traviata. They are two lovers singing "We will leave Paris, oh dear one,

    We will spend our lives together;

You will have reward for sorrows undergone,

    My(your) health will be restored.

You will be desire and light for me,

The entire future will smile upon us."

But operas are tragedies... not happy end!

  • I thought I was the only one that teared up to things like this! Have a most wonderful day!

  • love love love this... we need some in Australia!!

  • Esto es fantàstico!!!! Muchas gracias!!!

  • We need more of this in our world! Who, where and when can I go to enjoy the same?!

  • This was wonderful, what market when and where was this?! I will book my air tickets promptly! Ciao

    BRAVISSIMI!!!!

    Alma

  • I would go much more often to the market if it were like this.!

Beauty in the everyday life makes it so much better.

  • fantastic !!!

    fantastisch!!!

    phantastischen!!!

  • how nice that these people live in a country where they might even be able to tell the difference between good music and crap or good singers and bad. i am not saying they can tell, but they might be able to. in the US they definitely cannot. and how nice for the singers that they have the opportunity to be paid for singing. the wireless mics they are wearing are well hidden. in the US anyone to sing well in a marketplace is treated as a criminal. only bad singing allowed.

  • @KindKeith

You don't sound all that "kind" to me Keith.

  • @KindKeith There are excellent opera companies and opera singers in the US too, and people would've appreciated opera just as much if they were exposed more to it. In fact Opera Company of Philadelphia has recently organized a similar "flash" performance in the Reading terminal. Search here for "Opera Company of Philadelphia flash Brindisi".

  • GREAT

  • magnifique, extraordinaire, j'aurais aimé y être.

    Valencianaenparis.

  • Extraordinario!!! Here's to God's grace expressed through true art... EXTRAORDINARY!!! BRAVISSIMO!!!

  • bravo!!

  • Bravo! Bravo!

  • Beautiful and wonderful! Bravo!

  • Just Fabulous! a real testimony to the power of beauty to lift the soul. I tear up as well each time I play this video. Many, many thanks for posting!

  • Watched this three times. Tear up each time. Im pretty much a "Manly" Man and yet this gets to my heart. These people got to experience this for FREE. I live in a cultural dead zone where nothing like this happens around here . This is over the top!God bless who ever came up with this.

  • SUPREMO. PERFECTO. No puedo dejar de llorar de amor!

  • Traviata is so beautiful

  • God forbid that we should ever get so busy that we wouldn't stop to watch something like this... Opera for regular people... so cool! More! More!

  • that was great

  • This is absolutely mind-blowing... I was in tears watching this and I'm not normally so emotional very early on a Sunday morning...! The camera-work to capture those smiles and tears was brilliant. Thank you so much..I've never been to the opera but now I have a New-year resolution to do so.

Opera in the round... what a great idea. Heard about this on a BBC World service discussion programme. I'll be passing on this a link to this precious video-clip to all of my friends. Thanks again.

  • Hi mate, thought I recognised it ,I worked on La Traviata at the WNO. The sheer volume/power of the pro opera singers is gobsmacking. at about 6.00 ias i remember is the end of an act and we all used to be waiting in the wings to rip the set apart. Just one question where did they hide the orchestra LOL Cheers mate

  • Wonderful idea!!!

    ¡Enhorabuena!. Rafael García. Sevilla

  • THAT is fantastic!!

  • Wonderful! I'm sorry I wasn't there!!! Thanks to give us the chance to see it, misterfawlty! Greetings and happy 2010

  • @orquidealia graag gedaan :-)

  • I should know but what opera is this? such an affirmation of

  • La Traviata

  • Millagrosamente sorprendente ;-)))

    Enjoy life !

  • Simply GREAT!!!

  • Great!! Who they are these singers? I will try to replay this in Florence, Italy!!!!

  • Excellent ! Très original !Bravo

  • If you are an opera singer or even an amateur singer, you have this kind of subconscious thoughts.

  • I want to bring you HOME, just for a while. I don't know if your ancestors are related one way or another to Valencia, but it's Italy anyway and their wonderful people. Hope you'll enjoy it.

    L.O.V.E. again.

    Silvia

  • This market is in Valencia, SPAIN (not Italy)

  • I know sandhorst, but this post was not ment to be put here, but to be sent to one of my friends who is of Italian origin. What I wanted to say was that though everything was happening in Valencia, finally it's about Italy and its wonderful people (whom she belongs too).

  • For silvia28091958. Sorry then, it was a misunderstanding. I also share with you my admiration for Italy. Actually, here in Valencia, we love to boast we're the most Italian of Spanish cities!

  • It is a great way to promote opera to the general public. The Met might try it somewhere in NYC or maybe the Dallas opera could do it in the Farmer's Market.

  • Wonderful and heart warming! There should be many more like this one!!!!!!

  • Let's put this in perspective! Have you ever tried singing in a public space with people milling around, talking, and you can barely hear the accompaniment and, of course, there is no eye contact with the accompanist? I have. It's damned difficult. (And then there is the recording quality.) The singers ARE good - maybe not top drawer - but overall, quite up to the task at hand. I say bravo! to this little bit of serendipity.

  • Unglaublich!!!!

  • Well, when the three guys sang together they sort of sounded how one decent tenor might sound.

  • Nice.

But......"Improv Everywhere" did the "Food Court Musical" in March 2008.

  • Como mola!

  • What a pleasant surprise to received this from Naomi E.B. all the way from Israel, and to be transformed into this fabulous video of market shopping with the music of Verdi pouring out engulfing the shoppers. Verdi, still moving crowds, and me too.

  • I agree, MichaVerdi, such cheerful events should be brought more often ! Love from Belgium

  • Komt u uit België?

    Hebt u dat gezien?

    Waar wont u?

  • Meant to remark sooner... thanks for your comment.

Nice to get love from Belgium.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !!

Gracias.

  • Hagan estas cosas también en Argentina....!!! Hay que educar al pueblo!!!!

  • I am sending copies of this video to people who I think never even heard of Opera. What a "WONDERFUL" way to shop!!

  • Thank you amelhs, and indeed, it was the goal of the organisors of this event : to bring the opera to the people :-)

  • Manifico

  • Gracias

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

I just can say thank you. The best of my visit to Valencia.

A Belgian tourist who was there.
