  • Congress can take over healthcare by their authority to "promote the general welfare" as long as such a program is paid for by uniformly "laying and collecting taxes. But as this country is run by a bunch of oligarchs, you cannot trust Congress to run it honestly. Look at the Social Security Trust Fund - cooking the books, switching funds from one program to another, etc.

  • Why don't advocates of a "public option" understand that private companies are their own competition, they each want to offer better services at lower prices to beat the other company. It's government intervention that makes insurance more expensive, things like mandatory minimum benefits and making it illegal to sell insurance across state lines.

  • How about some tort reform? How about tax credits to help senior citizens pay for their prescription drugs once they hit the notorious donut hole in their Medicare Part D plans? These are a few small & simple things that can be done to reform health care without a 1000+ page bill that no one will read & these are reforms that will not completely take over and destroy our current system.

  • If politicians cared about making health care more affordable for everyone, then why dont they allow for dollar-for-dollar tax credits for health care insurance premiums? Or how about greater tax deductions for HSAs? Why dont they perform their constitutional duty in making interstate commerce more regular by allowing Americans to purchase insurance plans across state lines? If you want to cover some of those uninsured who cannot afford health insurance, just expand Medicaid & reform it.

  • Michael didn't get the Judge's sarcasim.

  • Michael Cannon is one of the few folks who GETS IT when it comes to fixing healthcare. Most of the folks think bigger government is the answer to it all. But big government is what got us in this crazy situation in the first place! We spend a third of what we spend now on healthcare in the 1960s. Why do we spend so much now? Hmm, could part of the problem be that the gov't wants to cover TOO MANY PEOPLE, with Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, and all the other crap?

  • Love the Judge!

  • pages 110, 149 & 167 of the 1018 page HR 3200 show the truth.

How can anyone believe that they can keep their healthcare (over which >85% of private plans are provided by employers) when their employers are being taxed for giving them their current plan? How can anyone keep their plan if it is deemed "inadequate" by the govt and youre taxed for having it?

Its a lie. You wont be able to keep your health care if you get it from your employer or have a personal HSA & high-deductible insurance.

  • Learn to read:

pg 110 is taxes on employers NOT providing health care

pg 149 is payment in lieu of coverage

    pg 167 is about individuals.

    Try reading it first.

  • I did read the bill

pg 110 is also taxes on individuals who do not have "adequate" health care in order to fund their trust fund.

pg 149 runs into 150 where it states that if employee payroll exceeds a certain amount, then a specific tax will be imposed upon that employer. When you force someone to pay money to the government (like to run a health care program), thats called a tax.

pg 167 is a tax on individuals who do not have "adequate" coverage, similar to pg 110.

    Maybe you should read

  • Name some examples of when government bureaucracy has done something more efficiently than the private sector. What proof is there that this government health plan will be efficient when they have already shown us with Medicare & Medicaid, that they cannot accomplish efficiency? If the problem of health care is that it consumes 16% of GDP and costs too much, then how come the proposal on the table is at least $1.5 TRILLION extra in spending?

  • if govt wants competition how about abolishing the law that prohibits you from buying insurance out of state, and it wont cost a damn taxpayer dime.

Too bad govt is too moronic

  • @ForTehNguyen Because if you did that it would mean that HMOs could rip off even more people because state laws are the only thing that keeps people from getting dropped.

HMOs should be prohibited by law.

  • The Health Secretary is back-peddling and then she's double-talking... I wonder who's really telling her what to say...

If the fedgov can't convince us, they just change their terminology and keep doing the same old thing... more health care obuscation that does not stand up to serious scrutiny...

The fedgov health care plan is dead in the water, and sinking fast...

    Wake up, America!

  • The fed gov plan has been killed by the health insurance industry spending 1.4 million dollars of their customers money each and every day to pay for lies and misinformation.

  • I will not allow the fedgov to use the health insurance industry as an excuse to coerce me into a government-run quasi-healthcare ponzi scheme. Two wrongs don't make a right. Think about it.

The truth about the HR-3200 monstrosity is coming out and people are opposing it by the millions. It's not gonna happen.

    Wake up, America!

  • Have you actually read any of HR3200 or do you just rely on the misinformation from the health insurance industry?

  • YES I HAVE...

Now, for all the good it's going to do you, see if you can get the u.s congress to give you a straight answer to that question.

They'll double-talk and obfuscate. They don't represent you. They don't represent me. They want to vote their socialist monstrosity into law without reading it.

Just like the bush bail-out bill, and the obama bail-out bill, they don't care about us. They'll watch us crash and burn before they'll do anything about it.

    Wake up, America!

  • You don't sound like you have read any of the bill. If you had you would realize that the Health Commissioner is required to set up the medical lost ratio in such a way that guarantees competition and adequate participation by Qualified Health Benefit Plan providers. If the medical loss ratio is too high, they won't participate and thus it will be against the legislation. The legislation specifically addresses the need for competition.

  • What part of "yes, i have" don't you understand?

Typical political posturing for you to assume a negative, then use it as an opportunity to spin the health care bill monstrosity.

Knock yourself out with obfuscation and double-talk if you want.

The U.S. Congress and 'President Ocon-ya' are just annoyed that the American people are catching them in their lies.

The fedgov and mainstream media have spun this issue to the point of making themselvse dizzy.

    Wake up, America!

  • What I don't understand is your answer. If you had read the bill I would assume that you would be able to give a logical answer regarding its contents rather than just uberconservative babble.

  • I've mentioned twice now, that I've read the bill. But you disagree with me, insult me and presume I have no logic because I obviously don't enjoin your support.

The US Congress doesn't read their own legislation. Save your antimosity for them.

  • The lack of specifics in your complaints are what makes me think that you have not read the bill.

  • Changes/manipulates IRS/SSA law-Fedgov overrules medical determinations, hospital admissions,judicial process-Taxes anyone without healthcare-Mandatory IRS enforcement-Criminalizes routine personal healthcare-Coercive small business penalty-Coerces personal insurance forfeiture-Eliminates private insurance industry-Coerces public option default-Raise taxes on higher incomes-Penalizes businesses-Legalizes fedgov price gouging-Forfeits privacy-Legalizes healthcare gerrymandering. MARXISM!

  • That list doesn't explain anything.

There are some false points such as eliminating the private insurance industry. There are actually sections of the legislation that specifically mention the need for competition. Thus if there is no competition, the legislation isn't being followed. You do not understand this bill. And I still doubt you have read it. You have yet to provide a rational explanation of any part of it.

  • I specifically name 13 examples, and you pick one to misrepresent and then spin it, just like Congress.

Then you suggest the same doubts, insults and accusations. Just like Congress.

You catch Congress in their words and they just change their terminology and keep telling the same lies.

My life, liberty and property belong to me, not the U.S. Congress.

    Wake up, America!

  • Seeing that the one example you listed is such a major part of the bill, and yet you are so demonstrably wrong on it, I didn't feel like going into any of the other issues. Read sections 116 and 201. Both of those sections require that competition exists in the market. If you can't even understand that basic information, I don't see why I should believe your claims in the other areas.

  • Their presumed 'requirements' are frivilous. Congressional double-speak in matters for which they can only presume authority. The more they get, the more they want!

They're spinning this issue into a storm. The people are rising up in paramount opposition to an anarchist Congress who both Bush and Obama have used to plunder the people.

Enough is enough with these bastard statesmen who call themslevs Congressmen.

You think they're legit. They're not...

    Wake up, America!

  • "anarchist congress"?

Not only do you not understand HR3200 whatsoever, you have no understanding of what anarchism is. Anarchists want to destroy the state. They are against the power structure of the government. Yet you call the congress anarchist?

    Please get a dictionary.

  • The united states congress isn't legit. They're destroying the state of the union in general and the individual states respectively, Sir.

THAT'S the true 'state' that belongs to the people.

    HR3200 is their socialist by-product.

Now, go get your own dictionary and look up LIFE, LIBERTY and PROPERTY.

  • I haven't heard that number before. I'm not being sarcastic, I would really like to know, where did you hear/read that 1.4 million dollars #?

  • Washington Post "Familiar Players in Health Bill Lobbying" by Dan Eggen and Kimberly Kindy

    July 6, 2009

  • Thanks for the article. You seem to have mistaken the facts. Approx $1.4 million a day was spent lobbying not in advertising. And they weren't lobbying against reform...

You may want to read "Groups Take Health-Reform Debate to Airwaves" by Brian Pershing in the Washington Post August 5, 2009.

PhRMA, the biggest pharma group is spending millions in PRO Reform ads. This bill is going to make drug companies A LOT of money. They wouldn't fight against it...

  • The article I remember sending consisted of specific legal points in the bill. I have no interest in supporting lobbyists. I understand our Congress is already bought and paid for. They sold me out a long time ago.

  • This guy is an idiot. The public option is defined in the legislation HR3200.

Sec 102 explains how people will be able to keep their current coverage by grandfathering it.

Sec 222 explains that the public option will have to fund itself completely with premiums.

    These guys are liars!

  • His point was that private insurers don't have the resources to compete with the Federal Government, so it's only a matter of time before they are replaced.

  • Explain how that would happen if the public option is not using public resources (it is paying for itself with premiums).

  • And I'm certain that, being a government program, it's subject to the same regulations...

  • You still didn't explain how private companies will not be able to compete seeing that the public option will not be relying on tax payer money.

  • I don't think he was talking about the public option specifially, but even the public option would have to be subsidized on the demand side in order to compete with other providers. The government makes the rules as to how those subsidies are allocated.

  • You obviously don't understand nor have read any of the legislation. Sec 222 requires the public option to pay for itself through premiums. Sec 241 says that affordability credits to low income individuals can be used on both the public option as well as the private plans that are in the health insurance exchange.

Those are the government rules as to how subsidies are allocated!

  • I've mostly been thinking about it in the abstract, yes.

  • Oh and they were specifically talking about the public option.

  • Nice debate. Thanks for sharing.

  • wow that fuking sneaky obama, hes still getting this shit to go through

  • Impossible to successfully compete with the Government?

Yeah, FedEx and UPS are far too expensive and are almost bankrupt....

  • Only the Post Office delivers 1st class mail.

  • No, they are entrepreneurs who have had to go around the and current existing monopoly that continues to operate on extorted funds-taxes-that will never go out of business no matter how much money they lose.
