I'm not sure if you realize it or not, but social security has been incorporated into the federal budget; therefore, all taxpayers are funding social security. However, most people who pay into social security receive far more in benefits then they ever pay into the "fund", even after adjusting for inflation. No politician will take serious measures to reform entitlements because older people vote more than any other age group. Wake up 18-30 year old people.
The truth is folks this problem sprouts from the "Federal Reserve System." It produces counterfeit money. If we had money backed in silver and gold we would not be in debt. Entitlements... There are no such thing as entitlements when it concerns Social Security. People pay into that and It has no effect on the Debt. @TheZombieman87 It would mean anyone in Canada who works in an industry that services US customers would be out of a job. Our $ would look good compared to the US dollar initially. Interest rates around the world would rise & since Canadians are almost #1 in the world in terms of personal debt, most of us would be faced with bankruptcy. That coupled with our own entitlement obligations would plunge the Canadian $ in to free fall, and we would follow America in to the black hole.

Our economy is almost entirely dependent on the United States. It would also be nice if the government shoved off and stopped putting itself into more debt and let the people run their lives.

I have 9 acres at this point. I don't have a house up because I am using my money for college. I am looking for ways of avoiding rent by getting a small house up or something. I want to be there to get some fruit trees started, get a fish pond dug and stocked, etc.
I am hoping to be self-sustainable in case some of the bad stuff does happen. I have property in a neighborhood where most have animals, and guns... Not likely people will come and take our stuff by force.
I know everyone pushes gold, but, of course, that just makes gold spike moreso. I doubt people will be doing much business in gold. History shows that more than not, bartering of goods and services occurs.
I believe having land is the key. Preferably with your own water pump source. With land, it is possible to offset some of the extreme inflation by producing your own food and energy.
Livestock (chickens are cheap for eggs and meat), Fish ponds, Gardens, Solar panels for energy, etc.

That is a valid point. If I wasn't currently a student, I would be taking out loans to buy gold with. In 5 years, with inflation, may have doubled your investment or more.

I know everyone pushes gold, but, of course, that just makes gold spike moreso. I doubt people will be doing much business in gold. History shows that more than not, bartering of goods and services occurs.
I believe having land is the key. Preferably with your own water pump source. With land, it is possible to offset some of the extreme inflation by producing your own food and energy.
Livestock (chickens are cheap for eggs and meat), Fish ponds, Gardens, Solar panels for energy, etc.

a) China would not make such a statement as it would obvioulsy devalue their 1.5 trillion of US debt. It's just bad for business. Instead they may quietly reduce their positions. Collapsing world economy doesn't serve them any good either as they would be next.
