Stunning musicianship. Thanks for posing, I"m not as familiar with this music as I should be. I'm always looking for jazz guitarists that don't simply fall into the usual bassy, velvety, loungey tone...yaawwwnn.
@glezzery62 I'm totally opposite there...I hate humbucker/stereotypical "fat and warm" jazz cleans. Really dead sounding, it doesn't help that cleans by nature already lack the harmonic depth of an overdriven sound. Love the single coils and the bright fender.

I don't get this at all. Neither did my girlfriend who walked in while it was playing and suggested, rather impolitely, that I turn it off. This sounds like it was created by tenured music school faculty members as an exercise in the possible as opposed to the plausible.
Bass player looks kind a like Elvis Costello (I know it's not Elvis).........Drummer is killin' and Wayne is, as always, superb. This is a great little trio. Good shtufffffff.......
Fall in love with him after picking up his Greenwich Mean CD over here where I'm living. I can't believe he isn't that well known. Should be huge by now.
The best bit of music and playing I've recently heard on YT. He seems like M Stern, JS, Pat, and all those guys, but seems to find some new bits too. I like this a lot! The thin Strat sound actually fits better for me than the jazzy mellow type.
I'm guessing you din't know much about Krantz's career. These songs are on his most structured album Long to Be Loose. A lot less improvising then his other albums, they were playing it how the song is done on the album, if you actually heard it, you'd know that for the most part the bass and guitar notes are the same. If Krantz didn't want it that way, he would have said something.
about his tone- if you see him live is tone is full and thick, so it's just bad video quality. and yea i'd agree, he has the most real balls of any jazzer i've heard. also, his wife is fucking hot.
this is what we all call deep pocket groove. 5 starts... i like how he move his knees just like mike stern does while they improvise :D jejeje this is 2 cool
Part of it's cuz nowadays he likes to play with more overdrive which actually makes the sound thinner, most of it's the bad recording quality of the more recent videos. If you download some of his recent live sets from his webiste you'll hear that his tone is actually a lot fuller than it seems from the videos. :)
I agree, and I belileve that even to understand and follow this music you have to have at least an appreciation for the creation of new things (aside from a good ear and tremendous reading skills in terms of the players aspect).
I don't think this era of his playing sounds extremely familiar today, yet it exists as a reminder of his past and what has led developmentally to our anticipation of his creation.
Lincoln Goines looks like Godard.

Wish he would do get a better tone besides that thin strat sound. It's annoying after a while.

Sounds like it's based on a Return to Forever tune or a Di Meola tune. I can't place which one. Senior Mouse, perhaps.

His tone here is so good. In some of the recent videos, his tone's so thin and harsh. What happened?

This guy knows what he is doing - in all aspects of melodic and harmonic progressions. He's brilliant. So are the bassist and drummer.
