Ok I realize now that you can listen to your music. But you have to do that play through radio thing. Is there a way where I can plug my zune in directly for a more clear play of my music..?
Thank you so much for this review. It is really really helpful. But even without moving it if I hit a bump in the road and it would lose connection and stop charging.
@ Frixion : The car pack broadcasts what plays on your Zune on an empty FM frequency, which you select with the car pack. Then all you have to do is select that same frequency on your car's radio.
Got one out of the box at circuit city today for 5dollers, no joke... anyway its not to bad, but i noticed vehicles with rear roof antennas can be staticy at times
Take what the nay sayers are saying with a grain of salt. They may be having issues with their car pack and are frustrated about it. How can they say not to buy a product because it doesn't work when my car pack has been working fine since I have had it? ez2bmcd does bring up something that I do tell people, and that is if you have the option to buy a tape deck converter, or something that plugs you Zune directly into your stereo, do that instead.
I purchased the car pack2 about 6 months ago and have had trouble ever since. I think because I live in Philadelphia and have about 40 stations competing for signal. As of last week it doesn't work AT ALL. Save your money! if you have a tape deck I recommend getting one of those cassette tape converters because the transmitters are bullshit. I should have known better when i used to own the iTrip for ipod.
I have a 03 honda accord ex and my tuner picks up bits of other stations on every single fm station, so it doesnt work for my situation, i thought they would get right the second time and just like Microsoft has always done they glossed an old product up like a new one.. I WILL NEVER BUY something again that is mostly a time saver.....cause i used it once and smashed it and sent it to microsoft with a go fuck yourself!
Before the device broadcast specifically on a station, the radio will sound like it is picking up multiple stations at once. When you turn on the tuner without any music, all of that static goes quiet...
you like serj, so your atomatically bad ass in my opinion. but uh, i have the exact same zune as you, and i was wondering, does yours have a really bad battery life, and by really bad, i mean REALLY bad, like maybe 45 mins on a full charge.. after the update came out its a little better though, im not sure why. do you have this problem?
Hey Thanks for the video. Zunes kick ass. I was thinking about getting one of these but wasn't sure because all they showed in the picture was the little tuner device. This showed me all about it. Gonna buy one now.
I bought it because of your review, but it's so "staticky!" It looks GOOD, but it doesn't work on my 2003 Civic as well as it does on your video. I've tried tuning it to the best possible station, and did it with the radio turned off (while tuning). And ALWAYS static!!
It could be because the 2003 Civics have those weird antennas in the back! Unlike your car.
That's odd. I have a 2000 Civic EX. Not sure how drastically different the two years are though. Did you put your Zune on top of the dashboard or on the seat?
Yea because I just bought the first generation car pack because I prefered the wireless transmitter and its not working for me. I was thinking my pack just might be broken.
The only gripe I have about this kit is the audio compression that's used. If you're into audio, you'll know what I mean. There's a compressor/limiter implemented (like most FM stations) which levels out sound by boosting low sounds and attenuating high bursts.
If you're an audiophile, you'll hate this and it will ruin your musical experience.
Buy a cassette adapter or some kind of direct inject instead.
I have a Zune and would like to get something that lets it play through my car's stereo. I have no cassette player, so would you recommend the Car Pack V2 as a definite, or are there any other products that are better than it?
There could very well be a product better than the Zune Car Pack v.2, but for me, I always go with first party accessories over anything else. The car pack works great for what I need it to do, and the sound quality is great in my opinion. If you have it available to you, go with a hard-wired plug-in to your radio...
thank you! i've been looking for a review and it's now on sale at circuit city for $40 so i'm pretty much definitely getting it. gotta drive a bit further since they don't have it at the closest stores but that's ok.
I had a problem with Microsoft branded car accessories (FM transmitter and the car charger) where it doesn't want to stay in my cigarette lighter. The coiled cord didn't help matters, when I picked up the Zune it caused too much tension and pulled it out of the lighter. But even without moving it if I hit a bump in the road and it would lose connection and stop charging. It was infuriating, and this happened in my GFs car too, Is the design on the part that plugs into the lighter improved?
I had noticed that too, with the first Car Pack. The new one does not use a coiled cord, so there are no worries there. I have noticed, at least in my situation, that if I get a drink from a fast food place, it will usually nudge the cigarette lighter piece, while it doesn't straight up knock it out, it will loosen it. It takes a little bit of nudging before it will unplug on its own.
I have the old one, it is a headache. There is always static when it moves out of place. I'm not going to pay $80 again. I'll just have to find one on clearance or get an off brand one.
Very nice review. I was not aware that the new accessories were already available. It certainly does sound like an improvement. The price of $80 is still kind of out of my range, but for its quality I just might but it. Zune 80, 10 more days!

Is this only the radio or is it also access your music? If so, how does it connect to your speakers?

It outputs through the speakers in your car. The device sends a radio signal out that your radio pick up.
