I just noticed....I'm not sure, but wasn't a scene from godspell shot here? You know, where a those benches are??? I think it was for bless the lord, but I'm not positive...well, I think I'm right...
where is the part where they say "Kids, I wish every mom and dad would make a speech to their teenagers and say, ‘Kids, be free, be whatever you are, do whatever you want to do, just as long as you don’t hurt anybody. And remember kids, I am you friend.”
I was born at the wrong time. I was made to be a hippie. Government and economy are stupid let's just forget it and share everything! I mean, why pay for something? Everything should be everyones.
@DarrenCrisslover15 Sharing everything is fine in a family or community but the problem is that this doesn't seem to work on a larger scale (countries, continents,...).
@ghostlover18 There are still boys like him, beautiful, free and with exactly the same lifestyle. Find them and enjoy them till you are young. When you are elder and you want to start a family, they are sometimes little bit disgusting ... .)
@jlilbit09 Too bad. I was 18 when the movie came out. Great era, so much fun and music. Too bad avout Jimi H., Janis J. and Jim M. though, drugs did them in; one bad thing about that era!
@tiddlywinks98712 I'm blatantly biased but i genuinley think its the best city in england, it's like London but less busy and with friendlier people :D
i wish they had stuck to the play plot where Claude is a hippie who wishes he was from Manchester England and Shelia is in love with Berger. oh yeah and did Claude put money next to Jeanie when she was sleeping.
i know what you mean hippiechick. i have also been watching clips of the Hair revival where Will Swenson plays Berger and Gavin Creel plays Claude who is a hippy. i am going to see it. also, the ending is very different. not sure why they made the changes...but the music is so great! the end in this movie, although different, really really moves me.
yeah i love the end but it seems like they changed the plot so much that a lot of the songs like Manchester England don't make sense and they took out a lot of songs like I believe in love which was one of the best ones i think. i wish they had kept the plot a little more.
yes i heard the orginal was much more rawer but much more realistic.the nude scene was what really caused a contraversy(pardon the typo).i would have loved to seen the orginal london production....im only 16 but i love the roots.
They had to. There is no chance to make a Be-in scene in a movie. So they need a role through which the outsiders can relate to the hippie culture. It wasn't the worst choice to choose Claude for this role. It brought another interesting conflict into the story, which makes it more complex. I like that.
Yeah, I just saw a summer production of the play, and I definitely prefer the movie. The stage version does not have much of a plot, but it has a lot more singing and dancing than the movie does. I guess the stage and film versions will draw different audiences, depending on whether they prefer a strong plot/dialogue or lots of music and dancing.
Sorry, I didn't mean to say that, either. Yeah, the musical is more "impressionistic", as if it tried to paint a picture, or represent the "feeling" of an era, rather the straightforward story-telling of the film. That doesn't make either of them superior to the other; my preference is just a personal opinion.
I think in the original play, they would walk around naked in some of the parts. I don't know, I never saw it on stage. I heard there was all sorts of issues with the broadway play because it was about hippies and drugs and anti war, etc.
I get really upset at the ending as well! But it depresses me that this was set during an unwanted/unpopular war, and nothing's changed in forty years. Plus, Berger looked better with long hair!
I just noticed....I'm not sure, but wasn't a scene from godspell shot here? You know, where a those benches are??? I think it was for bless the lord, but I'm not positive...well, I think I'm right...

In the original play, Claude is also a New York hippie like Berger. In the stage version, Claude dies in Vietnam, not Berger.
