  • Cold Sweat!

  • best drum technique......

  • your sticks looks liquicy :D

  • where can i get these rubbersticks ^^

  • SUCH A BOSS.

  • What is that snare and the kit generally ? That snare has a kick ass sound

  • big foot must have enjoyed that

  • excellent

  • I love how it looks like he's drumming with an asparagus pair

  • Super-funky groove. Been playing around with the concept a bit these days. Gotta work on that left hand! And, your HipGig sounds great with those Zildjians. I just became proud owner of a HipGig myself, and it sounds just as amazing as I'd hoped! You're not using the original snare right?

  • @RichardCombustion: Congrats on your new HipGig, I'm using a 13" Stagecustom Snare and mounted the tom bracket on it.

  • that what i call a fresh groove ^^ Freaking love it !

  • THats how the monks played drums they would go up to the mountains and make a beat

  • what u doing there? i loved it

  • The sticks look like they're bending.

  • I read something else as the title...

  • @thespunktrain: sorry, but there is a big difference to Dennis Chambers fatback groove and the groove I play in this video.

  • @uwepetersen its crazy the stupid comments you get on some of your videos. anyway nice groovin

  • @thespunktrain I like how you automatically think that he invented this because last time i checked the title says "Mountain funk on the hipgig" not "I invented the funk on my hipgig"

  • @DarkShadow482 I'm not defending that idiot, but it does say under the video "Here is a groove I came up with in the mountains."

  • Stubblefield anyone?

  • That looks like soo much fun on the mountains ha

  • Im really diggin this beat!

  • Comment removed

  • what hi hat's are you using here? They sound great!

  • @drummerboycraig: Zildjian 14" New Beat Hihats

  • I love this groove! :D

  • nice green screen

  • @Bonzotriplets1 It's not a green screen, it's the real thing.

  • @uwepetersen obviously not since when youre playing the camera makes it all choppy and the bush in front of the set is moving freely

  • @Bonzotriplets1 lol.... idiot, did you take the shadows into consideration before you posted that comment?

or did you look at the other video in the mountains?

    haha :P

  • @Bonzotriplets1 Obviously it's not a green screen and what's it matter if he's using a green screen or not obviously this video is for drumming not showing off his badass background....

  • Haha that's such a cool little groove, I love it!

What hi-hats are you using? They have such a nice 'chick'

  • niceeeee. i was dicking around one day and came up with something similar and i've loved it since. the ride is used and my snare hand alternates with the highhat. i love beats like this, it sounds like the stroke on the snare is "delayed", like you're expecting it but it comes in late.

  • DUDE! This beat is sick as fuck!

  • sad face

    i want drum good too!

  • it is the rubber pencil trick with a drum stick!

  • Dude you can fucking grooooooooooooove. Jezus that single hand 4 stroke is unreal. So natural. Damn.

  • @uwepetersen: any hint/advice to work the four left hand 16th ghost notes at the end of 2nd bar? Is this Moeller technique, or something similar? Thank you

  • are the sticks made of rubber?

  • does anyone else think his sticks looked like freakin twizzlers? HAHAHAHA great groove tho, I'll give him that.

  • lol watch the right stick it looks like it's made of rubber classic .....anyway great grove man loving it

  • James Freaking Brown!

  • nice drumming and nice drum kit !

  • I love your videos.

  • whats the kit?

  • It is the Yamaha HipGig

  • @uwepetersen notation? :D

  • @aero105: you can find a transcription of this groove on my website uwepetersen com under Lessons.

  • honestly some of the best groove drumming ive ever heard! keep it up

  • This is an sweet video; you groove hard, and your drums sound great. Haha, the video artifacts make the sticks look like they're bending :D

  • Aside from your great talent. I really like the way your kit sounds on video. How do you record to get such a good sound, because a lot of the clips I've listened to sound like someone's beating on cardboard.

  • haha i like the rolling shutter effect, that makes the sticks look like made from gum :)

  • The sticks looks like total noodels

  • @sick898: Oh yea definitely, that what's so grate about it. Inspiration is everything.

  • @sick898: Close but not exactly.

  • this is some that i always wanted do, up to the mountain with my drums and make a solo. Good groove my friend!

  • man, when i first heard this i thought i was listening to chambers on the drums!!

    haha

this is like, exactly one of Dennis's grooves.. nice work on the ghost notes, man

im trying to get my left hand up right now, and am realizing thats its gonna take a looottt longer than i thought.. haha

    nice feel, man

  • Just wondering if you could explain the beat a little more in depth than what meets the eye?

  • drums sound great

  • This dude is GOOD

  • Hello I have a question I play drums for some years now And i am a self-tought drummer and i learn most of the grooves by ear but after some time i understand that i dont realy remember these groves So how should i practice? Is it ok or should i read them from sheet music? Any suggestions Very cool drumming by the way. Thank you

  • @KaM12drum:

You should definitely learn how to read music if you don't already do.

Reading Rhythm's is not that difficult, you just have to count and know about the different note values like quarter notes, eight notes, sixteen notes and so on.

Each instrument on the kit has his own sign and place on the staff.

Go buy a book about how to read music or check out videos about it on youtube.

    Cheers and have fun.

  • where do you get those bendy sticks? haha!

  • @QuiickReVeNgE No he said its the camera but it also has to do with being outside. The camera is the Flip F260B

  • why on the mountains

  • @TheQswdm Why NOT on the mountains? :D

  • Grat man! i love it!

  • what camera plz respond

  • @rathushaan Flip F260B

  • I thought this Video was called Mountain Fuc% but then i read it again. Nice drumming

  • make sure the drums dont fall off the cliff

  • o my god. that is so good.

  • hey man this is such a great groove....quick question the fill you do at 54 secs till 57 secs is there like a simple sticking pattern you used for that?? and if so what is it??

    thanks man

  • Fast Paradiddle with the variation: L R R L R R followed by a Paradiddle or

    R l l r r L R l l r r L (capital letters are accented)

  • its like that pencil illusion!!! sweet

  • thats a sweet lick man. I also love how you just brought your set out to the mountains for inspiration. and is it me or does it look like your sticks are bending in this video?

  • you didnt make this up this is cold sweat by james brown. sorry.

  • Sorry, but you are mistaken. It is in the same feel, but has totally different sticking and orchestration.

  • @uwepetersen sorry, but setting up a drum set on a mountain will never sound as good as in my basement

  • @uwepetersen Some people don't think anyone can be original if things sound the same as some prior creation.

  • niceee!! ur drum set sounds really cool!!!

  • cold sweat..........see Mr Brown

  • @Frugellhound THANK YOU!

  • There are battery powered amps that you can get now. You need a funky ass bass player grooving along to that funky ass mountain beat on one with you. Smooth drumming funky mountain man!

  • isnt that the fatback groove?

  • You have a really great feel to your drumming; I'm very impressed.

  • amazingly tight, where are the mic's? great drumming.

  • Sweet. A German playing French grip. Nice grooving man.

  • I used to play something similar to this groove. i guess, i didn't spice it up like what u did here.. its amazing!

  • awesome groove! i used to play something similar to this, just that i didn't spice it up like what u did here...

  • you are combining two of the best things: (for me anyway) playing the drums and being in the mountains, that's awesome

  • Trippy stick movements- must be the video camera frame rate.

  • haha bendy sticks

  • Dude, I swear to God I'm not on drugs or anything but it seems like your drumsticks are made of rubber sometimes on this video... they seem to bend. Great groove.

  • Great video, aqoustics are great, i always wanted to play outside, i never did though, anways great drumming.

  • I hope some day i get as good as you so then i too could make the sticks go whonkey on one of my fills!

  • STICKBENDER!!!!great stuff...thx for sharing

  • fucking good

  • what the pattern for that? I dig the snare pattern

  • Go to uwepetersen com and click on Lessons for a transcription of the groove.

  • just a question... did you ever do rudimental drumming?

  • @Charleymoo i can answer that for him...yes.

  • Tight as balls.

  • that reminds me of the fatback groove

  • Lol @ bendy stix.

  • Rubber sticks!

  • I love the illusion. It looks like your sticks are made of rubber. I guess that illusion shows the best when playing the amazing grooves and rhythms of funk on the drums.

  • now i just need some moutains

  • thats one place to play so people wont give you crap about noise, ive had that problem for years

  • Your sticks look like they bend when you move them. :D Awesome beats!

  • That's awesome, also up in the mountains it sounds almost like you're in a recording studio because there are like no reflections!

  • ocean 12 beat

  • really nice groove.

  • sounds like a beat from a prince song i know

  • cool - but I somehow came up with this aswell haha :)

  • Just loved it...

What is your cymbal set up?

  • @sebastiaopv95

    All Zildjian

    14" New Beat Hi-hat's, 16" & 17" K-Dark crash brilliant,

20" k-Custom dark ride and a 16" Oriental china trash.

  • Thanks, but at zildjian site, there are no K-dark brilliant crashes... Are they fast crashes?

  • @uwepetersen

Die Brilliant Versionen der K-Dark Crashs gibt es nur als Thin oder?

  • i like how you go to the mountains to play the drums lol! I bet it gets your going or inspires you to play better? cool idea anyway. nice drumming! also i like how you have floppy drum sticks, gotta get some for myself sometime................................

  • Thank you for your comment, Yes it is very inspirational up there in the Mountains.

  • i like how you go to the mountains to play the drums lol! I bet it gets your going or inspires you to play better? cool idea anyway. nice drumming!

  • @ilovemayonaise.

Of course he's pulling bits and Ideas from other artists. Everyone does. If you can play or show me a coherent drum groove that's 'COMPLETELY' original, then I'll be very impressed.

  • funky druma!!!!!!!!!!! =D, daym near Mr. Clyde Stubblefield lol

  • Comment removed

  • I swear to god I've heard this before.

Sure you're not pulling bits from other artists?

  • @ilovemayonaise

WTF! He was obviously influenced by someone...

  • Yes you have heard it before. It is, indeed, very similar to Jojo Mayer's new york beat were there is a cop at the back.

  • lolz, from the quality of the vid, it looks like your

    drum sticks are very bendy.

  • Nice job Uwe. Now I've asked a lot of people this but how do you give your snare that funky sound I mean how much do you tie it up on each side? I want mine to sound like that haha :-D

  • The snare I play in this video is a 13"x4" wood snare.

I tune the resonant head tighter than the top head for better response I also use a O ring as muffling. The heads are all Remo Ambassador coated on top and Ambassador snare on bottom.

  • Uh, are you realy using Remo Ambassador BATTERHEADS on resonantsides? Or what? i might missunderstand, but from what you are saying here, it seems that way.

  • @HebbeJohan

    Coated Ambassadors on TOP

    Clear Ambassadors on BOTTOM
