  • But 1 week later.... I DID IT!! Thank you soooooo much! I'm so proud! It's a very good thing I "documented even though I do not plan to share." (you are wise beyond your years!) :)

  • I somehow almost broke my nose trying this... I dont even know what I did wrong! this hurts, tho!!!!

  • I'm pretty sure it's not the shoulder trick that makes people randomly propose to you, Sandra...

  • But I do have a question... I hoop to my left, yet I do this trick on my right shoulder...hmm why can't I get it properly on my left shoulder...~trying again~ :oP

  • Me tooo!!!! now I can't stop :o)

  • Yay! I did it! I feel like a million bucks! Thanks so much!

  • Thanks so much! Took me a few hours but I got it! And I only smashed myself in the face like 8 times. lol

  • You were learning foundation for hooping! :) Thank you so much for posting everything that you have. :D

  • Yes! I did it! Thanks Saffire!

  • just learned this trick and the realization dawned on me: i'm a hooper! it felt so good.

    thanks safire.

  • Yay! I got it :)

  • fucking awesome!

  • no matter how hard i try i can't do this trick :(

  • Awesome tutorials, very inspiring, has helped me out a lot! Thank you for devoting your time.

  • speaking of proposals.... marry me? jk, nice work

  • You make it look so easy! I love your teaching, Thanks!!

  • your videos are great Safire. I learned how to hoop at the knees, shoulder hooping and now i will try this =]

  • i have a weird question i have rods in my back and i enjoy hooping a lot but chest hooping comes really hard for me any suggestions???

  • Hi Sandra. Thanks so much for these tutorials - you are an amazing teacher! Would anyone be able to tell me the name of the song that plays over this video?

    Thanks very much! xx

  • Hi Sandra

Thanks so much for these tutorials - you are a wonderful teacher! I wanted to ask what the song is that plays over this video?

    Thanks very much xxx

  • Hi Sandra

Thanks so much for these tutorials - you are a wonderful teacher! I wanted to ask what the song is that plays over this video?

    Thanks very much xxx

  • Hah I was trying this for EVER without success until it was pointed out to me (thanks Sharna!) that, as a leftie hooper, I was trying to do this with my right, which I was told is MUCH harder! Tried it over the left, and it worked first time hahahh! OK still not consistent but I am going to try that with one arm in approach. I WILL GET THIS!!

  • I got it!!! I don't look as smooth and beautiful when I hoop as you do though

  • This one is really hard! lol You look beautiful as usual! :)

  • does anyone with long hair have problems-catching on the hoop if you tie it up, hard on the neck if you have it down?? if so have you solved the problem of what to do with your hair??

  • You make it look so easy! But it sure is fun learning!!!

  • You're inspirational.

  • you are awesome

    i love your videos

  • Don't you have dvd tutorials for sale?

  • @Spacebirdn Nope, I'm offering online hoop dancing classes through Hoop City.ca

  • Help! It keeps flying off of my shoulder! I can do it on my arm, but when I try it on my shoulder it falls off... help!

  • Interesting, I figured out how to hoop on one shoulder, but I never thought of continuing for more than one rotation on the same shoulder. Instead I've progressed to doing one turn on my left shoulder, then one turn on my right before popping my head back in.

  • safire, from a hooper to a hooper, you are so friggin cute

  • Thanks, SaFire, this move has been a mystery to me--I keep bonking my nose, guess my timing's off. I'll try your tips first thing! Cheers, Judy

  • wow! She's so hot!!!

  • That move is hot. saw Lonipop do it on skater Dyrdek's place. The vid is here on youtube too.

  • great trick!

its well explained and easy to learn from!!!

  • Thank you! Just what I was looking for!

  • I just nailed it! thanks so much lady!

  • I love the intro to this video. It's so true! I nailed this last night at a club, thanks to your video, and got TONS of compliments and "Do that again!" Thanks so much for all your help. You have definitely helped me become a better hooper!

  • Thanks SaFire haha I've been trying it w my holistic water hoop and it's been going wooooooop! Right off haha! the shrug totally makes sense;) I'll have to try it! I appreciate you sharing:)

  • Recipricating motion creating a rotational force through a planatery action. Thats 1 hell of and equation.

  • by the way, you say you're not sure how to explain when to come back up. the point you come up is the same exact point you go down -- the opening happens in the same place. :)

  • you should come to schwagstock next season i would love to hoop with you!!!!!!!

  • Hey! I go to Schwags often too!

  • Great video...You make it look so easy and your right Will you marry me ?

  • Thank you so much for this video! It broke down this trick for me :D I've been working on it for a while, I got most of it down...but my problem is, every time I get it on my shoulder and I drop my head out, the hoops flies off. I hope to figure it out, it's awfully tricky :)

  • I had that problem as well until I tried using a little bit heavier hoop. Worked first try with the heavier one XD

Also helps if you're wearing a sleeveless shirt and your hoop is taped or sanded.

    Good luck!

  • omg ur so good... i cant wait to do this tomorrow.... im gonna hula hoop so much for the nxt couple of months... im gonna get so thin. lol

  • Youre a verry nice girl and i wish you success in your passion for it to become youre life style and daywork that you cant live out of it!

    Good Luck!

  • i really love your tutorials tank you so much!

  • You are very good and your instructions are very informal. What type of hoola hoop are you using? Is it weighted?

    Thanks.

  • i love your videos. i learned most stuff from them. i havent mastered horizontal hooping yet though. do you have a vid?

  • As of 3 months ago I couldn't even hula hoop around my waist, but your infamous hooping video inspired me to learn and I was determined to get this shoulder trick down to impress audiences. Now, thanks to you, not only can I hoop around my shoulder consistently (among many other tricks), I have also lost a total of 22lbs! Thank-you for being my inspiration <3

    ~Jenna

  • Wow!

That's such great news! Keep at it girl and dance with your sexy self!

    Much love,

    SaFire

  • Hi Sandra, thanks so much for these videos! I'm at 2 weeks of hooping and I can now say I can successfully dance with a hoop :)

However with this trick, I can never nail it, I can do both 'warm-ups' separately, but when I try the trick, the hoop always flies off my shoulder, any tips for that? So far I'm just doing the trick with my arm up so I don't injure someone/something. Thanks :D

  • Be sure you're lifting your shoulder up high and watch out for bending over too much. If you curve your shoulder forward the hoop will end up flying off, so be sure you're lifting straight up.

    Much love,

    SaFire

  • Awesome. I'll keep an eye out for you!

  • Thank you so much for doing these tutorials; I've learned very quickly from your instruction, as you have a way of communicating clearly and breaking down the tricks in a really logical manner. When and where will you be performing at Burning Man this year (other than the workshop on Wednesday at noon)?

  • I'll probably be performing in Fire Idol this year too and with the Thermal Shock Mafia for the fire conclave.

  • You are so great! Most of what hooping I have learned, I have learned from you, taking hoop breaks when I'm doing homework. You are a good teacher and fabulous hooper

  • Hi there firesandra, just wondered if you could help me with something, i have been inspired by your videos and would love to learn to start hooping. As a beginner i wondered if you could tell me what size weighted hoop would be good for me, perhaps a 36" or would you suggest larger? I would be greatful if you could please let me know, thank you.

  • I've heard that around 40-42" would be the best, but it could depend on how tall/big you are ^^

  • I've been told that your hoop should reach your belly button, so your hoop size depends on your height. My hoop is a 46", and it'll rest on my finger if I stick it in my belly button :)

  • hii safire!!you are awesome really cool tutorials!! may I ask you what kind of tube do you use to make hoops? if is 160psi irrigation tubing can you suggest to me another one because im from mexico but I can't find that tubing here.

thanks!! also how can I make a fire hoop.

  • ~I loved hooping as a child and now, at 43 I'm going to take it back up; where do you get your hoops, because so far I have a sports hoop with bumps and eventually I'd like one like yours. I'm hoping this will help strengthen and flatten my abs!~

  • Haha yeah I was kidding. But i did get alot of nice comments.

And I just checked out your website ... thats awesome. Thanks for these videos. I seem to pick up easily on shoulder tricks but not so much.. anything else.

  • YESS i learned this today

    and was proposed to

  • I'm sure that you're joking (about the proposal)

but really... I would not surprised if it did happen.

    SaFire

  • thank you safire:)

    i love yours videos.

you are a very optimistic and interested person ;)

  • Can anyone tell me, do you have to have bare shoulders to do this? I can only manage it in a tank top....I know that this is hooping blaspshemy but I find this trick easiest when using a wavehoop from kmart. :)

  • It is WAY easier with bare shoulders.

If I'm wearing sleeves I can still only land it half the time. If you do have sleeves on, do this move as slowly as you can so the hoop almost balances on your shoulder.

    ~ SaFire ~

  • hey, what's the song on the begining?

  • Music: Silversun Pickups - Melatonin

  • Great Tutorial. I have to give this a try one day, but after I deal with paddling. Thanks for your step by step and suggestions.

  • i think i've got lighter (plastic) hula hoop. does it matter?

  • if its a kids hoop it wont work. you need to buy a specialized hoop, made of 3\4 inch (or 1\2) tubing, if not tricks wont work.

  • I love you...

  • safire is hot!

  • omg thank u safire.ive been lookin for some1 to teach me this move.now i get the gist of how its supposed to go n i can practice it.

  • what a girl...;)

  • ur really pretty :)

this is an awesome tutorial! its really impressive!

  • Hi!

I need some advice and I hope you would be able to help me since you run hooping classes with some beginners, I think. I need to buy a hoop and I have considered a 100cm / 250g one but I'm afraid it would be hard to work with such a light hoop. What hoops do your beginners work with?

I'm from Poland and it's extremely hard to get a hoop here. I have a 115cm / 750g hoop but it's no use to do tricks since it's got massage balls all over.

And btw, I'm not thin if it makes any difference.

  • Hey Karenira,

Heavier weight is easier for on the body hooping but is harder for off the body hooping (a great workout though)

The standard size for a hoop is around 42 inches. I'd suggest measuring from your feet to the bottom of your rib cage as a good beginners hoop.

    Hope this helps.

    ~ SaFire ~

  • It does, thank you :)

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaa TOO HARD

  • Wiener-hooping is a skill that women can only dream about. One area in which they can potentially suffer hoop-envy towards men.

...and dont think it comes easy, boy-hoopers. Vivid imaginations and never-ending prescription refills for Viagra are necessary tools of the trade to be a successful and high earning wiener-hooper.

  • I love your tutorials! You're an awesome hooper. :)

  • Will you merry me?

  • just lets all propose via youtube:P

  • I just learned this! So fun! You are rad~

  • Sorry to objectify your noble endeavor but you are ridiculously fucking cute.

  • I did a video response to this! There are a few things I just learned like the vertical & continuous step-through (hence the reason I messed up lol). But basically almost every trick I know I learned through your videos! I'm about 3 months in since I started and I'm lovin' it =)

  • please please please do a tutorial on vertical hooping it would be greatly appreciated. thank you so much.

  • you're amazing! can you do a video on how to vertical hoop!? thanks for all your tutorials!

  • safire i love all of your tutorials they're amazing i finally got this trick yesterday. i hope u do a tutorial on hoop isolations and stalls. thanks for all the help, you're the best. i hope to do my own hoop video soon i started 3 months ago.

    keven boilard xxxxx

  • YAY I finally did it!!! I love you SaFire!!! I have been using some of your tutorials and they are really great THANKS!!

  • You make hooping a phenomenal dance the first time. It's incredible surfing through youtube and watching you at different periods of your life teaching people the hooping dance. I find it refreshing as the moves are very elegantly done with music.

  • wou ouuuuuuuu j'y suis arriver ..merci beaucoup!!!!

  • Thank you for taking the time to teach us sandra. I plan to do the same when I get better.

  • Yeaaa...I had been working on this one and found that you can kind of see where it comes back around so you can pop back up again. Just watch the hoop, once you've dropped down, and see when it comes back around to where you can pop back in. Hope this makes some kind of sense. It's a fun trick. Hopefully, I can get the other side...:)

  • Sandra, I've really enjoyed watching you bloom as a hooper! Great tutorial. You look Gorgeous. And, as always, I love your energy and what a great smile!!!

  • you videos are the best.thank you so much.

  • Thank you for the new video! I shall try and put the movement into practice!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I've been searching for a good shoulder hooping tutorial, but didn't come up with anything instructive, just people getting it down or demonstrating. I'm going to go practice right now!

  • good tutorial, thanx! What size hoop is that?

  • Very well explained. Bravo!

  • thank you for this video!! =D you're amazing =] you should really consider making a dvd or something of your tutorials for hoopers xD you're such a great teacher!

  • i know this sounds corny but Thank u so much i love all your vids and without you i wouldnt be the hoop dancer i am today

  • Hey Sandra! I recognize that hoop, it was at sham! Funny thing, I got the shoulder trick down on the opposite arm of what you are teaching here...I kind of taught myself a while back, but it's the opposite shoulder...Now I'll have to try this one!

I like the variation with the 'prayer position' and spinning while it is motionless on the shoulder. I'll have to try it out. Now.

  • I love your yard soooooooo much :)

  • Thanks bunches for this, I ran outside last night after seeing this and now I can do this on my left shoulder. Right one is gonna take a bit more practice lol

Can't wait till your next vid!!
