He's actually a mech. He's based on the planned Cybertronian mode for Beast Wars character Spittor (who transforms into a frog). You can see a Spittor repaint character in one of AeonMagnus' video "BWII: Galvatron Drill-tank mode".
@AeonMagnus I kind of find this whole "Rodimus survived" thing hard to believe since we never see him again after this. I know that certain sites say he survived, but for me, that's not saying much.
Strika's voice sounds like the voice of this Canadian lesbian pedophile who used to teach at my school. Like seriously. In fact, I'm kind of convinced that she voiced Strika and was mistakenly credited as Tara Strong.
I used to hate this show when it first aired. But nowadays I have mixed feelings about it. It's not as bad as I thought it was, but that's not to say that I thought it was the best TF series ever. It had its ups and downs. But then again, everything has its ups and downs.
@MDthornton83 I think one should give it a pass for this one. Because there is TF media out there that has barely any "ups", while one might dislike the animation style here, it was still one of the better series, plot and character vise.
Instead of the typical 90-s stock villain Megatron from the G1 cartoon, he is a really badass and dangerous foe here, Optimus has far more depth as the Mary Stue from the old one, and thats not even mentioning the rest of the cast.
@Hyeesa I respect this series for what it is. But for me, nothing comes close to G1. I know I'm old school, but that's how it is for me. And for the record, I actually prefer Optimus as the head cheif rather than a rookie.
@MDthornton83 A matter of taste i guess. I prefer G1 one myself of all the Transformers series, but not the cartoon. The comic. For me that will allways be the classic wich gave life to the series. All the characters were introduced there, and while i did like the G1 cartoon as well, i had serious problems with that.
( Shockwave being a passive yes man for Megatron instead the cold ruthless leader who took ower the leadership for a while, all the 80-90 cartoon cliches i hate... ect. )
@Hyeesa Well, everything has its cliches. But some cliches are actually quite refreshing. But I respect the fact that you had problems with some of the problems that plagued G1. I can't argue with that.
i tried to watch this when it 1st aired n them first couple of episodes seemed kinda corny to me cause their wasnt too many real battles between autobots n decepticons and for a few episodes it was the same transformers all the time, but since i watched them on youtube i seen alot of g1 classic oand other future transformers
@viperrcm0214 I know she's Strika. I was noting the origin of the homage, since she and Beast Machines Strika are not the same "person", given this is a different universe.
@Axel7043 Hasbro and Takara both released a new Lugnut figure inspired by Animated Lugnut; Takara into their United line, Hasbro into their Movie-blurs-into-G1 toyline. Google RTS Lugnut. Pretty much the same deal as HFTD Lockdown.
TFA Strika's voice is obviously influenced by BM Strika, but they're different voice actors. Tara Strong, who primarily voices Sari in Transformers Animated, does TFA Strika.
Team Chaar is awesome. A refrence to G1 Decepticons (Cyclonus),the BW Predacons (Spitor),BM Vehicons (Strika),a Bay movie variant (Blackout), and a Mini-con (Oil Slick).
He's from the toyline. There were quite a few characters that didn't make it into the series because the cost of CGI meant they had to keep the cast small. The Predacons from Robots In Disguise (Slapper, Gas Skunk, Dark Scream and Sky Byte) were all redecos of Beast Wars toys. Indeed, Slapper was a redeco of one of the Spittor figures.
Blackout calls back to the 2007 live action movie, Spittor is from Beast Wars, Strika is from Beast Machines, and Oil Slick is a new character (the name is borrowed from a couple of earlier characters, but this is not intended to be a TFA representation of any of them).
The character inspirations aren't limited to just G1 - there are references all over the place to lots of different series.
Strika's feet were always touching the ground, but I got the idea she hovered just due to the one scene where they had a blue glow in "Spark of Darkness" but they now resemble wheels when I watch more closely.
Yes I KNEW that but I didn't know if he was being serious or just screwing with the audience when he mentioned that Strika had a Pottsylvanian accent.
That's basically what I meant. I didn't know if Derrick said Pottsylvanian accent as if he meant Pottsylvania was real or if he just mentioned the fictional country as a joke.
Botcon Scourge isn't in the TFA universe; it will be part of Timelines. They just reused the "Elite Guard" concept which goes back as far as G1 Cyclonus and "Five Faces of Darkness".
OMG,Strika from. Beast machines!! And Spittor from beast wars,in his cybertronian form!!!! I love this cartoon!!!
