Matias knows other style other than metal, go to his own channel you will see he knows many scales and chords (I don't think Syn knows that much theory)
videos like these are stupid. you can easily rig songs vs songs. to a more favorable one to the one you like. So until they duke it out for real in young guitar or something it's just a matter of song selections. I heard some incredible stuff by syu and i feel hes under represented in the song selection.
You nailed it on the head - 'passion'. A lot of Japanese artist have a lot more passion than people care for. Like Yoshiki from X Japan. Few people make drums come alive like he does. Maybe like McBrain from Maiden. It's because they play with passion.

Very difficult. But, altough Stratovarius is my favourite band, I think Syu's way of playing is exquisite and very special. Matias's work on Strato is awesome too!
if you want full energy solos, and only that, then go for Syu. if you want more musical, i would go for Matias. Syu is really good, but for my taste i would definitely go for Matias. hope i didn't insult anyone :). take care and have a nice day!

matias doesnt have half as much dynamics in his picking as syu does which i see with i a lot of super technical players...and i gets really boring really fast... SYU!! sound like his guitar is SCREAMING!! 100% of the time way more energy then SYU all the way >:D
@xDKxClan yeah syu has more practice i mean i read the bio of Matias it seems he started 2006 with grindcore so mmh seems so he just started to play his style after that but he has studied at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Oulunkylä nice!!
Now to Syu he plays almost 10 years he played before violin thats a hard instrument, he can play drums too got lot influence John Petrucci and other metal, hard rock guitar players hes style is wider but i like both
@JaketheSnakeESP only a grindcore band called Fist in Fetus but they have also Progressive Death Metal and Classical influences in they sound.
They released a demo in 2007 so thought how hes so good than i researched that he was in a Death metal band called The Sinkage who released a demo in 2002
@HenriGibson you obviously don't know what Syu can do then XD Judging from that comment, he's one of the most underrated guitarists in the world. Matias is awesome technically but Syu is special in how much feeling and passion he puts into his playing and song writing. With a lot of awesome guitarists you feel like you've heard it before but with Syu it just sounds different.

Both from the absolute top of modern shred. Imo Matias has just a touch cleaner teqhnique, not that it matters on this level. Just more or less comes down to which style one prefers. Very nice song pics so props to lance.

if you want full energy solos, and only that, then go for Syu. if you want more musical, i would go for Matias. Syu is really good, but for my taste i would definitely go for Matias. hope i didn't insult anyone :). take care and have a nice day!

i love them both, but syu's solos just make me more shaking, and shiver.. wow.. ! I love that energy and feeling what syu can do to other people when he's playing!

matias doesnt have half as much dynamics in his picking as syu does which i see with i a lot of super technical players...and i gets really boring really fast... SYU!! sound like his guitar is SCREAMING!! 100% of the time way more energy then SYU all the way >:D

@xDKxClan yeah syu has more practice i mean i read the bio of Matias it seems he started 2006 with grindcore so mmh seems so he just started to play his style after that but he has studied at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Oulunkylä nice!!
Now to Syu he plays almost 10 years he played before violin thats a hard instrument, he can play drums too got lot influence John Petrucci and other metal, hard rock guitar players hes style is wider but i like both

@JaketheSnakeESP only a grindcore band called Fist in Fetus but they have also Progressive Death Metal and Classical influences in they sound.
They released a demo in 2007 so thought how hes so good than i researched that he was in a Death metal band called The Sinkage who released a demo in 2002

@HenriGibson you obviously don't know what Syu can do then XD Judging from that comment, he's one of the most underrated guitarists in the world. Matias is awesome technically but Syu is special in how much feeling and passion he puts into his playing and song writing. With a lot of awesome guitarists you feel like you've heard it before but with Syu it just sounds different.

Both from the absolute top of modern shred. Imo Matias has just a touch cleaner teqhnique, not that it matters on this level. Just more or less comes down to which style one prefers. Very nice song pics so props to lance.
