  • I already have a 2012 sonata so yup getting it well.. eventually lol

  • WELL ill buy it!

  • I've had bad experiences with both Benz and Audi so i'm now driving an Lexus GS. I feel like Benz quality dropped over the past decade. German cars tend to get a lot of issues with the Small things. Most cars never have engine problems until past 100k.

If you have the money to pay for maintenance then German cars run very well. But the Bills add up. I'm a fan of Asian cars now and i'm wondering if Hyundai can do the same. German cars tend to get a lot of electronic issues

  • LOL America just got the crappy emblem.

Look at what's available instead of the emblem in Korea atm :D

  • @marciomariaz26

    Wow... So pre-judgemental

  • superr... hyundai den bunu beklemezdim.. mukemmel araclar yapmaya basladilar..

  • Audi > Hyundai. End of story.

  • Exactly...Buyers ego is exactly what makes people go for the jags, benz, Bmw's rather that cars in the clime of the equis which sometimes offer more for less..

  • People say that Hyundai is just an imitator. Well, if copy is better than the original, I'd go for the copy any day.

  • why pay more, when you can pay less and get more?

  • Great luxury for a Clown !

  • heres the thing, just like steve said, if you can get over your ego, this is a great car to purchase, which I did, and its an amazing car. I know I didnt get an s class or a 7 series, but I'm perfectly happy with my car, and I cant find any faults with it.

  • Hyundai is not original at all..they copy from other car manufacturer's then put it on their cars.

Case in point: The have the Infiniti's clock on the inside dash, Lexus Led on the front headlight's , Lexus LS 460's dual exuast, Audi's, and Lexus center console.

They are not original at all just imitators.....

  • @tom11zz884 no cars are completely original... they all try to emulate one another

  • remember that hyundai sell u a car, meanwhile Audi, Mercedes, Lexus and BMW sell u status

  • Absolutely the best car review video I've seen. Beautifully-enunciated speech... no distracting background music, and actual praise of the aspects of the car most important to those of use who buy this kind of car (smoothness and quiet).

And thank you for mentioning QUALITY, which I assume includes DURABILITY. It would be most helpful, however, to tell us about SAFETY: particular passive safety considerations like Crumple Zones, Center of Gravity....

  • Id get it..

  • for someone who isnt very rich and wants a top class luxury car, this is perfect!

  • Acura where are you?

  • @SANYUR they fell off years ago, honda is almost dead bro and that sucks. But as with time you gotta change with the times or be left behind. Im personally looking to buy a Genesis next year for the lady and me, I think my time with Honda is over.

  • Way to go hyundai and copy yet another bunch of top performing class cars. Hyundai is not original and uses, elents and designs from other luxury cars. Pull up to a s class by mercedez and you'll be the joke. The years of enginerring and developing is something hyundai dosent have.......yet. My verdict, wanna feel like a poser get tht equus. Wanna be a baller get the real deal from a legit car company instead of one tht just copies what it sees in the market place.

  • @homeboyskilletfresh Lowl what do you know about the equus? It's been around longer than you think. This new version of the hyundai is the only one that was sent to the U.S. market. Hyundai is not a joke you pull every now and then. My dad got a loan car because his porsche needed a windshield replaced and they gave us a 2010 mercedes gl550 or one of the SUV's. And it had no options. Okay I can live with that. But the terrible part was the interior was if not AS bad as a regular hyundai.

  • @homeboyskilletfresh I don't know, this sounds excellent to me...the price is amazing and the warranty is great; yeah I agree that Hyundai pretty much ripped off every other luxury brand with this and the Genesis...but a Lexus LS is certainly not a bad car to emulate.

  • @kuruptzZz lexus is a good buy. Im not here to choose a car with u but I would not blame u for buying one becuase of the price, but why not a used a8 or 7series. For tht money amount u can find someting used and in very goooood condition. If u get the Hyundai, dont be cocky, its a good car but nothing close to characteristcs and years of ingenuity that japanese and german competition.

  • Dont judge a car by its name

  • Amazing review!!! Buyers EGO!!!

  • a free ipad?

  • very nice review and car.

    Hyundai Great!!!!!!!!!!!

  • maintenance free for 5 years is a good way to win sales.

  • Hyundai is evolving very fast.

  • Hyundai is becoming like good wine. It only gets better with time.

  • is it me or do the lights look just like the acura rl?

  • I like how Steve assessed it. Hyundai Equus owners should not be ashamed about getting their Equus serviced at Hyundai dealers; especially those who can their 1995 S'Coupe serviced. LOL

  • I absolutley love this review! I think Hyundai should switch the Eqqus badge to all of their cars, Its very nice looking and classy, I hope Kia gets a version of this car like they did with the Hyundai XG/Kia Amanti

  • Steve howd u get this job? Hows the pay?

  • wow .. I wanna do exactly what you're doing when I grow up ... Nice review steve.

  • wow, I'm suprisingly impressed!

  • Steve, can you review the GTI and the new CIVIC SI please

  • This won't sell, americans are badge whores. $60000 for a Hyundai? They could've been better off by making a luxury brand instead of putting a Hyundai badge on this.

  • @jsiszero in korea they have had this model for several years, it was just recent that hyundai planned to bring it here in North America. You should be kidding yourself if you think hyundai is not a good brand anymore. Times are changing fast my friend.

  • @hangene92

I didn't say Hyundais are bad cars. I said that $60k won't sell.

  • @jsiszero yeahh sorry about that. But hyundai said in a statement that it does not care about selling alot of the equus, and this was coming from CEO. The CEO said that it just wanted to bring value and improve the company image, saying that hyundai can produce very good and quality cars. The year that it was released, it has exceeded companys expectation. It sells alot of this car in Asia, not so much here in North America or Europe.

  • Dude! Can you tell me where I can get my '95 Scoop serviced???

  • @jimmyfun22 Are you seriously still driving that thing? I ran out of warranty on my 2001 Elantra. I service the car myself and I save some serious money. I like it.

  • $60,000+ for a Hyundai?!?!? You've got to be kidding me! People buying vehicles above $40,000, buy vehicles traditionally as status symbols. Hyundai will never play in this league.

  • @Jferrari427 hyundai have stated that it does not plan to sell alot of the equus, it said in a company statement that selling 100-1000 would be satisfying as it is trying to make their brand more unique.

  • What is he talking about? That emblem is sexy as can be. Better than compared to BMW's blue and white quarter circles which is very uncreative to say the least...

  • @khyentse8 I totally agree. There was a survey before about the equus emblem, 95% said that the company emblem was the best and the most unique. Steve hammes is crazy for saying that.

  • @hangene92 Exactly my thoughts, the emblem was the best new/different thing, and keeps you from the Hyundai feel. But the interior is still korean and it shows. A cheap luxury wannabe yes, but comparing it to and A8 or BMW or a Merc is just plain silly. What, can you exchange years of refinement and engineering for some cheap toys?

  • @hangene92 You're an idiot. Steve Hammes is entitled to his own opinion as you are to yours. I think he was a bit too easy in this review but only because people blasts him the second he lays down his own opinion. I hate how he has to conform to whiny people's standards so things can stay civil.

  • @7477238 what on earth are you talking about. Yes, I agree about the fact that steve hammes has his own rights to talk about his opinions, I never said he shouldnt. All I am saying is that alot of people said that the equus emblem suits the car. You shouldnt judge things too quickly.

  • Steve i Was Just wondering when and if you were going to review the new 2011 chrysler 300? im a big fan of yours and would like to here your opinion!!!!!!

  • Hyundai continues to impress since its resurgence

  • If you have $60000 why would you even buy a hyundai, that's the question.

  • Audi and BMW suites both old and young buyers, This just screams old fart.....

  • I enjoy your reviews, but they seem more like advertisements to me. There has to be more dreadful things wrong with this Hyundai than weak handling and a tacky emblem.

  • The '95 Scoupe reference is lolz-worthy :-)

And I hope Hyundai ditches that Equus logo, especially if they spin-off Genesis as its own luxury brand.

  • Ditch the chrome wheels please, they are really ugly.

  • great review as always! May i ask how did you start this car reviewer career?

  • 13 years testing cars! how does a 15 year old get a job like that?

  • All of the talking, arguing, and controversy over this car, in these comments alone, are part of why some people will buy this vehicle. Some people would love to drive a car that makes people start talking, among other things. Most people who shop for these kinds of cars are gonna appreciate the design elements that it has and usually are not people who know alot about cars, so it'll be appropriate for them.

  • You can talk about brand cache and badges and price all you want. I'm personally a fan of any car company that is working to improve and are not afraid to push the boundaries. That's how you improve your reputation. Evolution is happening everywhere in the automotive world and it's a great thing.

  • Steve,

Between the two cars which one would u prefer if u had the money for both?

  • Steve I think you are spot on with the 'Buyers Ego" I don't think most new rich people will sink their $65K+ into buying a Hyundai, Most luxury shoppers are paying for the name like Benz, BMW or Lexus

  • I'm NOT being ignorant. those badges mean something. fuck all the bells and whistles so you mean to tell me this equiss is as good as say an M5 or or S 500. get real. vid rather have the latest cutting edge motor then some bells and whistles....which is all you getting with this Hyundai. like I said you get what you pay for.

  • I typically have sticker shock I am shopping for cars like the new Honda Civic

  • I would prefer a lexus ls, better value, reliability and quality, for about the same price.

  • @Lexuslover123

"Lexuslover," This car costs exactly $58k, while a comparable LS L costs $74k. The "value" part of the equation is clearly in favor of the Hyundai.

I don't think anyone will be cross-shopping these two anyways. In my opinion, the Equus most serves a niche of people buying a luxury car for the first time.

  • @bg1379 It is a nice car, but I honestly I do not think most people can trust hyundai quiet yet, if they waited a couple of years, it would probably have a better chance.

  • @bg1379 Honestly, I was hopping for Hyundai's excellent new fluidic design, not some mercedes copy.

  • @Lexuslover123 well i was too, but turns out this car was designed in Korea before the fluidic design came into play. In turns of looks, it's built on old Hyundai concepts. The next one will definitely be the real deal.

  • nice car but u ALWAYS get what u pay for. for all the nice features it has it doesn't match up to the chassis and motor refinement that the big boys can give u. that's why they cost so much. until then it will never really be in the same league.

  • @shocktrooper1000 your being ignorant, audi and bmw and mb all bump up their prices because of the badge, like a base audi a3 cost the same as a fully loaded golf. And if you watched the clip, steve said the cars drivetrain is as refined as they come, and said in cases its better.

  • hahaha Soupe'

  • I'm not quite sure about the looks, but the specs do seem pretty impressive. It's not that much less than an XJ or another, more prestigious rival, but it's still significant enough to make you think. Especially, when considering the S-class starts at around 90,000. The American market seems to be very different to the rest of the world.

  • that eqqus emblem is not "new". It's been around for a decade as the name is.

  • great review Steve! I love your vids! just had a question, how long have you been reviewing cars? thanks man, looking forward to the future!

  • @d0ugz24 13 1/2 years...thanks!

  • @stevehammes what would be the best way to start out in your field or get into your field, if someone had dreams of doing what you do?

  • @stevehammes Steve, Great Job as always. I have a couple of questions. So it comes with an iPad? And what were your average fuel numbers and does it take premium?
