1990 rp team (final line-up): alvin patrimonio (purefoods) benjie paras (shell) ronnie magsanoc (shell) samboy lim (san miguel) yves dignadice (san miguel) hector calma (san miguel) ramon fernandez (san miguel) dante gonzalgo (añejo) rey cuenco (añejo) chito loyzaga (añejo) allan caidic (presto) zaldy realubit (presto) coaching staff: robert jaworski (h.c), norman black
The Best RP Team Ever is the 1936 Team that place 5th in Summer Olympics.
The Second Best Team Ever is the 1954 Team that won the Bronze Medal in FIBA World Championship. There are no asian team that even come close to this historic accomplishment. All Pinoy's should remember and give thanks especially to Carlos Loyzaga. The only RP team that played hard with pride and honor to thier Country....MABUHAY AND PILIPINAS
Ang naaalala kong RP TEAM 1990 Lineup: 1. Robert Jaworski 2. Ramon Fernandez 3. Benjie Paras 4. Alvin Patrimonio 5. Ronnie Magsanoc 6. Yves Dignadice 7. Avelino Samboy Lim 8. Chito Loyzaga 9. Dante Gonzalgo 10. Zaldy Realubit (? Jerry Codinera 12. Hector Calma
jones cup ang napagwagian ng NCC noon coached by ron jacobs with jeff moore, dennis still and arthur "chef" engeland (not sure bout the spelling of his name) in d lineup...
To think that this team only trained for 2 weeks. Unbelievable! They lack cohesion but it was pure heart, talent, And determination. The so called all-star teams that they sent out for competition today are pathetic. They can't even beat teams from the Middle East anymore. They have more logistics and training and yet they cannot even qualify in the semi-finals.
@shawnmahboy I believe it's wrong to say that the PBA players have more logistics and training than the Middle East teams. Middle East teams took years to form, and are not made overnight like chicken marinade. Also, Middle East teams are richer, and they can get expensive Imports. Heck, our South-East Asian neighbors are richer than us too. I won't be surprised, if our South-East Asian neighbors surpass us in International Basketball competitions. Partida pa.. Football talaga ang sport nila.
Sa pagkakatanda ko this was the closest that we got in beating China. Tindi ni Caidic in the last minutes, puro tres at muntikan pa nahabol yung lead ng China. Galing din ni Samboy as always. 6 point lead ata ang winning margin ng China pero we really came close . Iba talaga dati, may puso at talento.
Batch 89' draftees lead by Paras.
back then, our players are smaller compared today. But the best thing about them...they are pure Filipinos. And they got the big hearts...Enough to make our country proud!
lol why the hell is norman black featured in the video...he's not even philippino
pba players nowadays suck, they don't have the IQ that those players had. we always lacked the size against international competition, but those guys used their brains and used whatever advantages they had.
players now are INTIMIDATED by taller players, and they don't use their advantages such as their athleticsm, etc. if the undersized phoenix suns can win 54 games in the NBA...
Norman Black was one of Jaworski's assistants on this team (the other being Jawo's long time lieutenant at Ginebra, Rino Salazar). In fairness to Black, he's even more "Filipino" than those Fil-Shams we have today. He can speak fluent Tagalog and has really embraced our culture.
well i think black is more filipino in heart than the so-called fil-foreigners now. habol lang nya mga yan ngayon eh bayad. walang love of counrty yan.
it is so true that the best years of the PBA were of the 70's to the 90's. We were proud to be one of the basketball powerhouse in Asia. I have nothing against Fil-Ams, but you guys need to look at whose shoes you are filling in for. Jawo, Patrimonio, Fernandez and co have left THE mark on how should Filipinos should play.
mas babibilis mga players ngayon pero ambobobo sa shooting, mas mabagal ang players noon pero malulupet sa TRES!!!!!! that's a fact..... gago ang tututol..
Totoo yan.
PBA at this era, played with passion and heart in every game.. team spirit stands for every players who entered the wooden court., These are the best years of PBA, 80's and early 90's.
nothing lasts forever, masaya talaga PBA nun, look at how Paras, Asaytono, Alvarez elevates to stuff the ball, madiskarte mga players, si Big J pinapalo lng un bola dun sa jumpball, and Patrimonio wouldnt mind tamaan siya ng bola sa ulo so long as he went after the loose ball.
Realubit,Dignadice.the BEST PHILIPPINE TEAM HAS EVER ASSEMBLED for the ASIAN GAMES nuong 1990 up to now, no offense sa PBA players ngayon kakatamad kayo panoorin..
@preyes Nice call. It was Realubit who filled in for Codinera. Although every time Realubit is on the TV screen for a free-throw, the name they flash was Jerry Codinera.
nung panahon nila jawo, ang pba sikat na sikat, at ang daming taong nanonood sa araneta, puno lagi at yung laro dati, napakaganda, mararamdaman mo yung excitement dahil pinoy na pinoy yung laro, ngayun walang kwenta, puro fil- am kasi ang player, yung iba hindi pa marunong mag tagalog, kaya wala ng nanonood at nilalangaw yung araneta. yung mga totoong pinoy, bangko pa..
Panay tunay na pinoy ang players kasi at meron fan base ang players mula nung school days nila, like jawo sa UE-Yco-Meralco up to Ginebra; Fernandez from USC-Toyota-Purefoods-SMB.
Remember ko pa to. year 1990 nasa fukuoka, japan kami nito. RP TEAM line up- Mon Fernandez, Chito Loyzaga, Dante Gonzalgo, Rey Cuenco, Hector Calma, Alvin Patrimonio, Jerry Codinera, Benjie Paras, Samboy Lim, Allan Caidic, Ronnie Magsanoc & Franz Pumaren. coach Big J. Champion-china. -2nd RP -3rd korea -4th japan
For me, yung 80's kasi doon nag-peak individually yung mga pioneers gaya nina Mon Fernandez, Abet Guidaben, Philip Cezar at maging si Jawo na almost 40 na noon. Then in the mid-80's, pumasok yung mga NCC boys - sina Calma, Samboy, Caidic, etc. In 1988, dumating naman yung batch nina Patrimonio, Codinera, Lastimosa at Asaytono. And just before the decade ended, lumitaw si Paras.
Carlos "CALOY" Loyzaga is the Philippines' greatest plater and the 1952 World Mythical Team member, and he's also the father of Chito Loyzaga (former PBA player) and Bing Loyzaga (filipina actress).
dindo is one of the best point guard s pba, kya lng mejo mlas lng s time, when he entered the lig in 1989, that was hector calma was at his best, tapos my mgasanoc p, when hec retired xas nmang pasok ni johnny ape..este johnny a pla.

jabes2007 2 years ago
PBA at this era, played with passion and heart in every game.. team spirit stands for every players who entered the wooden court., These are the best years of PBA, 80's and early 90's.
themoose0611 2 years ago
at least coach jawo should've fielded in alvarez and asaytono instead of rey cuenco and mon fernandez.

djryan006 2 years ago
PUSONG PINOY KASI ANG PLAYERS NOONG 90's, WALA PANG FIL-AMS NA ANG LAKI NG MGA SAHOD PERO LALO TAYO NANGULELAT SA ASIA PAGPASOK NILA SA PBA.
SANA MAGKAROON PA NG CAIDIC, LIM, LOYZAGA, PATRIMONIO, PARAS, CODINERA, CALMA, ETC.

nothing lasts forever, masaya talaga PBA nun, look at how Paras, Asaytono, Alvarez elevates to stuff the ball, madiskarte mga players, si Big J pinapalo lng un bola dun sa jumpball, and Patrimonio wouldnt mind tamaan siya ng bola sa ulo so long as he went after the loose ball.

podiegojude 2 years ago

mamawbliss 2 years ago 3
I don't think Codinera was able to play due to Hepa-C. I think it was Realubit with Paras.
preyes 2 years ago
@preyes Nice call. It was Realubit who filled in for Codinera. Although every time Realubit is on the TV screen for a free-throw, the name they flash was Jerry Codinera.

strangebrewrats 2 years ago 3
@strangebrewrats
Panay tunay na pinoy ang players kasi at meron fan base ang players mula nung school days nila, like jawo sa UE-Yco-Meralco up to Ginebra; Fernandez from USC-Toyota-Purefoods-SMB.

Remember ko pa to. year 1990 nasa fukuoka, japan kami nito. RP TEAM line up- Mon Fernandez, Chito Loyzaga, Dante Gonzalgo, Rey Cuenco, Hector Calma, Alvin Patrimonio, Jerry Codinera, Benjie Paras, Samboy Lim, Allan Caidic, Ronnie Magsanoc & Franz Pumaren. coach Big J. Champion-china. -2nd RP -3rd korea -4th japan

aling dekada ang mas magagaling ang players?
70's? 80's? 90's?
for sure hindi ung mga players ngayon.
OracleSentinel 3 years ago
For me, yung 80's kasi doon nag-peak individually yung mga pioneers gaya nina Mon Fernandez, Abet Guidaben, Philip Cezar at maging si Jawo na almost 40 na noon. Then in the mid-80's, pumasok yung mga NCC boys - sina Calma, Samboy, Caidic, etc. In 1988, dumating naman yung batch nina Patrimonio, Codinera, Lastimosa at Asaytono. And just before the decade ended, lumitaw si Paras. Talagang lahat ng PBA legends naglaro noong dekada 80.

lolzrc29 3 years ago

Carlos "CALOY" Loyzaga is the Philippines' greatest plater and the 1952 World Mythical Team member, and he's also the father of Chito Loyzaga (former PBA player) and Bing Loyzaga (filipina actress).
