The ball hadn't even been thrown, the guy flopped like some Soccer player acting... ridiculous between this and the Fletcher hit the Refs from that game should be strung up.
Boy, contact 3 yards from the line of scrimmage. Moss may push off, but Edelman initiated contact by hopping right in his path. Questionable call, perhaps, but we all know the rules are hopelessly squewered in the favor of offense, and this is NEVER called offensive PI.
Now what do you suppose the ratio of a play like this occurring to offensive PI being called is? A thousand to one? How about when a Patriots loss is on the line? One to one?
@stopwhining1 stop whining. Defender is entitled to his space. Moss goes in there, initiates the contact and gets open off that contact. Easy call, will get called everytime. Games was two weeks ago, its done
@madav88 spoken like a true homo patriot fan.. I wasnt whining, I simply wanted clarity on the rule.. regardless, It was a questionable call whether you think so or not.. Yes the game is done I dont care but you have to admit that the officiating sucked for both teams
@stopwhining1 No spoken like someone who plays football. Yes, can agree there. Maybe one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen and I've seen a lot
In looking at it. The Line of scrimmage appears to be the 5 (blue line) Moss must have lined up behind the line. Contact appears to be at the 3 or 2 and 1/2. Moss looked to be running a route where he was going to try and curl around the DB to the left and the DB slid across and blocked his path and they collided. Since the DB looked like he was trying to impede or alter his route as far as I am concerned it should have been seems like it should have been a no call.
Seems to me that if a defensive player cannot be called for interference if his "chuck" within 5 yards results in the receiver falling down or getting off route, then why would a defender being knocked backwards because he lost that "chuck" battle result in the receiver getting a penalty? I had always thought that within 5 yards, it's basically like blocking whether it's a run or a pass and a defensive back has every right to try and run over the receiver and even knock him down. Doesn't Moss?
Actually, the defender initiated contact. Even without the interference, that pass is likely completed. I've never seen a call like that in 30 years of watching football in a similar situation, either in pro or college. 99.9% of the time, 5 yards in the NFL is a free for all if they're is no grabbing. The defender is a WR by trade and had no clue what he was doing, only falling down a couple of seconds after the push. If Brady throws that ball, no way is that call made.
@spartacus5651 Definitely think you have a valid point. The homer in me at that point just wishes the ref eats the whistle when it is near the end of the game.
@pilamcnu There were a ton of other bad calls going both ways in that game. Just dont think this was one of them. Moss clearly pushes off and if he wasnt SO wide open they probably dont call it.
@theredskinsfan8989 No, you cant. Read the rule I posted. An offensive player is never allowed to push off on a passing play anywhere on the field
initiating contact with a defender by shoving or pushing off thus creating a separation in an attempt to catch a pass is offensive interference
That mean even within 5 yards receiver cannot just push off and get open. If so all receivers would do it on 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 2 plays. Just push the defender and turn around.
@spartacus5651 The “in an attempt to catch a pass” part of this rule is referring to the actual act of catching the ball, NOT running a route. There is another rule that states the offensive player can not drive through a defensive player that has established position. However, that does not apply here as the defender clearly steps in front of the route that Moss is running at the last moment and Moss has the right to make contact as he did.
Within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage - they made contact at about the 2 yard line initially, and the line of scrimmage is the 5. The DBs can make contact within 5 yards, but they don't like it when the WR gets to them first - TERRIBLE, game-changing call!
It's a bad call but you have to make it if you're going to call defensive PI so easily. CBs can't even breathe on receivers anymore so you have to call an obvious push-off when the receiver does it. The game's too tilted towards the offense anyways.
How could Moss have made contact at 5 yards when the line of scrimmage was the 5 yard line? They weren't in the end zone were they? Definitely a bad call.
Well you have to wonder about a minute to play and the team scores and it gets called back on a judgment call - and they don't have a replay? Clearly the network and the NFL have something worked out...fans deserve better than this kind of crap.
I definitely think Moss makes contact at 5 yards. I think this is the same contact that most receivers and DBs make all game long. Throw in the fact that Edelman is not normally a DB and gets thrown from the jam. Most corners would not have been seperated so badly so it looked even worse when Moss was so wide open. I understand the call, I just think in this case the flag could have stayed in the ref's pocket. Thanks for commenting.
What a joke !! I loved how they didnt even show a replay of it. Bullshit calls all day imo, especially the "Forearm to the head" call on London Fletcher... Brady is such a cry baby bitch.
Jeff Triplette and his crew need to be suspended for a couple of games, or fired... The calls they made were TERRIBLE

Yeah, i was thinking of Illegal contact. With PI it doesn't matter how far past the line of scrimmage you are.

Moss should know better. If the refs sees an arm extend after 5 yards, its going to be called almost everytime.

actually looking at it again, its clear as day, no idea why anyone is complaining.

NFL RULEBOOK -
Actions that constitute offensive pass interference include but are not limited to:
...
(b) Initiating contact with a defender by shoving or pushing off thus creating a separation in an attempt to catch a pass
rrsafety 2 months ago
You guys need to learn the rule of offensive pass interference (as does Moss). The 5 yards doesn't matter when you push off.
initiating contact with a defender by shoving or pushing off thus creating a separation in an attempt to catch a pass is offensive interference

@spartacus5651 no you can make contact before 5 yds and you can push off as long as it is 5 yards b4 the line of scrimmage

@spartacus5651 It's kinda hard to tell from the video who initiated the contact. And I don't think the ref could have seen it any more clearly.
