Nito is so unbalanced and is not so practical. I guess it would be good to practice nito for a practice purporse but to use that stance on a competition is not very practical i think. Even Musashi used nito stance only in his practice not in real combat situations.
Musashi would be proud. Raymond's shoto skills are quite impressive. Watch him try to throw Sato off by wiggling the shoto around then BAM! In comes the daito. I think he's holding the daito a little different than the kamae, but this may be justfied considering his odd, and effective technique.
It's a Kendo tournament. Contrary to the watching spectator it is but a mere entertainment to those who are not martial arts enthusaist. Kendo to these players are a way of life and competition provides the room for improvement of techniques.
lol, don't talk out of your bum like that... at least Raymond doesn't drop his shinai in the middle of an important match, lol... itokazu can't even hold his shinai correctly
Raymond's kamae is a little off. He should hold the daito a little bit more sideways to protect his head and shelter his kote. It would also give his attacks a little more strength. If Sato had circled around to his left, Raymond's constant moving of his shoto to a higher kamae would have exposed Raymond to more attacks.
ur totally correct except for 1 thing,, clean can't be said ,, u should say correct and beautiful,, and if your kendo isn't correct thn u should train your kendo,, but the first thing is totally correct ,, i know people practising very ugly kendo and winning shiai ,, dont bother ,, it ll always exist :(( :p
Nah, he's pretty good. I've played him quite often because we're in the same city (Toronto). You should have a keiko with him, then you can make your comments.
The greatest nito player I know is Nakauchi from California. It is better than anyone I've seen, and I've seen them all, including the ones from Japan.
Hi. I'm an INEXPERIENCED italian kendoka too. Nito is wonderful. In my dojo there was an excellent nito kendoka. Fearful stance, indeed Does anyone know if Mr. Raymond is in Canadian National Team for Taipei 2006? And is there a satellite channel which is going to show Kendo Championships? Where can I download Raymond videos? Thanks a lot.
Considering that his opponent couldn't score a point against him, I wouldn't call it bad defense at all. Just a stupid comment by someone who has no idea what he's talking about.
kiba, bear in mind that this video is of the 2000 WKC. It's been 6 years, and Raymond as refined his technique exceptionally well. As for his terrible defence, watch the video again. Does he ever go into total defence? He doesn't, he clearly controls the match with his seme. His style of nito is very physical, and it's effective.
And yes DarthStout, nito is hell. However, I have it a bit easier because I am left handed (gyaku nito)
Nito is a kendo stance that utilizes two shinai instead of one. It's uncommen and requires many grueling hours of practice to show any skill in it. I hope to one day try nito out because i love the look of the form. But until that day i guess i can only dream. I guess i should start by taking kendo firt hehe.

Raymond's only real weapon in this match was his reckless head first taiatari to try to knock Sato out of the ring. pretty lame.

mathew raymonds nito is really clean compared to itokazu . but hell Itokazu still has the best nito kendo in the world

I think "to win a shiai" is quite different from "good and correct kendo".
And "clean" is a strange word to define a personal fight style :) Maybe 8th dan Sensei have a "clean" Kendo.
