This is not the typical Jump Rhythm and Blues. It's more Swing music if you listen.
Although this tune was recorded 1950 at a time among blacks the black Rock'n'Roll(Rhythm and Blues) by Louis Jordan,Roy Brown,Muddy Waters,Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker,B.B. King or Wynonie Harris was the big thing and Swing became more and more unimportant. I'd really like to know why he did record it. But nervertheless it's a great tune !!!!!!
@WholeLotofRocknRoll "This is not the typical Jump Rhythm and Blues. It's more Swing music if you listen." Yeah, for '50, the style is pretty swing. Millinder & Wynonie both used big backbeats more on other recordings around this time (e.g. Billboard mentioned the "rocking beat" on Millinder's "Chew Tobacco Rag"), so this particular recording may have been attempt to reach out some to pop fans -- "white" people who liked Lionel Hampton, sort of crowd. If so, didn't work.
Hey, dggd...I'm a whiteboy and I love this, always have since I heard it 30 years ago! No doubt Wynonie didn't get the dues he should've nor did Louis Jorday, Joe Turner etc...these guys sang with their heart and guts.
The King of Rhythm & Blues with a voice that could strip paint off walls...consigned to obscurity once all the whiteboy imitators came along. Rock, Wynonie, rock!
I hear ya...happened to so many of our great singers. Shows how backwards this world is. These singers were inimitable and could never be topped, no matter how hard anyone tried! In those eras they were all true-grit, classy, and gifted. Such a powerful history, that is only recognized by the few that know and continue to honor their presence on the planet. I know I do!
