@lewiskoster112 no problem. You can actually buy 5 houses - Whiterun, Riften, Solitude, Markarth, and Windhelm. I guess the house in Solitude still has a lot of bugs in it so it's best not to store anything of value there as it might disappear. Plus, it costs the most 25,000 gold.

@2late4thisshat I also did that until I was able to buy the Breezehome in Whiterun. What is nice about that, is when you fast travel to Whiterun, you pretty much start right in front of your house. Where before you had to leave Whiterun and go to the camp. The Breezehome is pretty convenient!!

@B3LTRAN89 I just bought the home in Markath last night and there are a number of wall mounts and display cases for your weapons. Also, there is a manquin too to place your armor on. It's pretty nice and definitely larger than the Breezehome. You also can buy an enchanting table and alchemy table for this house too. I'm not into that stuff, but I bought it anyways!!

Thank you for posting these guides! There are free beds and storage containers for those just starting out. The bed in Gedur's or Alvor's (depending on whether you followed Ralof or Hadvar) House in Riverwood is available from the beginning.

Joining the Companions in Whiterun and the College of Winterhold will each get you a bed and a few containers. Supposedly there is housing available for the Thieves and Dark Brotherhood factions, but I haven't gotten that far in the game yet.

@MrNatemonster yes. stores your gear like the other guy says but even better, you can sell junk to your wife, and every day she makes 100 gold from her business. also she cooks a homemeal for you. and the house of course is for storage and displays your books and weapons organized in shelves and racks. try it, 5000 gold for the one in whiterun its a good deal.

the bugs make me mad... I can't buy the house in windhelm. I've finished the main questline and finished "Blood on the Ice" where you have to hunt down the murderer in windhelm. Some say you have to finish the Darkbrotherhood quests to obtain the house others say you have to join the Legion or the Stormcloaks and finish the civilwar quests to get it. Which I didn't, But I in particular think that this game, though its real great, is messed up by the bugs. Help on that Windhelm house please...
