This brings such wonderful memories! I was only 5 when i watched this and it was one of those reasons why i am afraid to go near a pool. One of the best gator/croc films of all time!! Truly brilliant!

In the 70's we had great Jaws (1975) & Piranha (1978) and then in 1980 the was giant Alligator. I must admit that this film was no less impressive - maybe even better! I loved Lake Placid (1999) and Crocodile (2000) but it were unserious films compared to this underrated classic. The storyline and concept were smart, death scenes were bloody and really shocking, the acting was awesome. Robert Forster, Ropbin Riker and Michael V. Gazzo did a wonderful job. This movie deserved at least 3 sequels

@Magnolia296  I agree Piranha and Alligator were great Jaws spoofs, they were cleverly done and they became classics for a reason. I hope this never gets remade. there was too many great minature FX and stuff in the movie to top it with with computer generated special fx.

To be true, Alligator do not eat people. Mostly eat fish only and is less aggressive than crocodile. So they got the fact wrong.

@alyo07 They don't normally kill people. But people have been killed by them and most of their body eaten by them. They definatly are not as agressive as crocs like you said and crocs kill more humans. But alligators have eaten people, maybe not the whole body, but have kill and consumed parts before.

i saw this when i was really young and i always remembered the scene when the alligator eats this guy and his leg floats out of the sewer (or somehting like that) and i was so shocked by it that i actually used it for a stroy i had to write.. i still wonder what the teachers must have thought of me then lol.

I've been looking for this movie forever, i cant find it in any blockbuster or FYE in florida anywhere esp best buy. Ugh. . Sadly i like 80's and 70's horror compared to todays, To much effect's and very predictable. Anyone know where i can rent this movie or buy it besides amazon, let me know. Thanks
