The trains are running in the same direction because the Amtrak is about a half hour late. This is not dangerous because the signals will keep the trains for crashing into each other
@JustinJLego It looks as if a few cars on the rear of the train are being towed behind the regular train, but not carrying passengers. Perhaps they were being taken between yard facilities.
Been there for a while but my mom works for the village and there gonna move the stop from glenview to north glenview cause amtrak is causing traffic back up.
Thats been rhetoric for years. nobody wants to loose the glenview ticket agent and metra is not in a position to start funding their own ticket agent. North Glenview does not have the rider-ship to warrant a metra ticket agent so it is going to stay as is.
Glenview is a bit out of line, amtrak does not tie up that crossing anymore than metra does.
Well there talking about it right now and yes they do tie up more than metra cause when they are coming from Washington they are blocking two crossings longer way longer than metra trust me ive been there a shit load of times and there going to do it and its not metra or amtrak discision its the viallage.
Right, real recently it was decided that the move will not happen- at least this political cycle. While it remains the decision of the Village of Glenview it is in Glenview's best interest to listen to Metra - a vital asset of their community. Metra does not want to hire a full time ticket agent at Glenview. It is far easier for them to pay that fee to the Amtrak employed ticket agents who run that station. 8 is the only train that ties that crossing at Glenview road.
On any given day 8 gets out of there within 3 minutes unless there is an unusual. 7, even with an extended consists shunts the clearence point for Glenview Rd. grade crossing once it clears.
@ohytr11 Most of the time. There are a number of reasons why the trains run late. Even on the northeast corridor trains have been known to run late, although they run on time more on the northeast corridor.
How can there be 2 lounges on the empire builder? there should be one, right.

Why are both trains heading on the same direction yet one track is supposed to be northbound and the other southbound? Isn't this dangerous?

These cars on the Metra have some serious flat spots.

Yes they do. Just about every car has one.

I never knew Glenview was an Amtrak stop.
Andrewsaxamophone 3 years ago
Yea, it is a very random place for a Amtrak stop especially for the Empire Builder. Now I could see the Hiawatha stopping here (and it does).
