That's only in houseleague little league because all the good kids pitch, catch, and play shortstop. You find as you get older the right fielder is the only one who is sometimes a weak fielder if he can hit well. The centre fielder is usually your most athletic player because he has the most ground to cover, and your left fielder needs an arm cause left field is a right handed hitters power alley.

Yes the official ruling would be a catch. The rules state that you must have at least a part of your body in the field when making a catch. As I reviewed the play I saw almost half of his body inside the field as the ball entered his glove.

I made a similar catch in Little league (1978) only I did not go over [the fence] and the fence tore up my back. This was before drain tile was put on the fence.

This is my video and there is no editing here. I was 12 years old and when I went over the fence everyone's first reaction was that I was hurt so the person taking the video dropped the camera and ran out to see if I was alright. She was a mom videotaping a kid's little league game, not a news photographer. I did make the catch and the call was an out and the runners advanced.
