If you were so good at tanking, you should have tanked the instance yourself. For all you know, the tank may have been farming that one instance for weeks longer than you had for that trinket. If the hunter has the right gear, high hp and just basic experience and common sense, then it's definitely possible for a hunter to tank.
But of course, hunters cannot tank in raids or such, lol that would be stupid :)

Whether you told the tank or not it's not hunter loot, have your guild run you for tank loot for your Hunter tank spec which is bananas to begin with.
That trinket is probably still best inslot for tanks, you should've passed it to him only because its one of the best for tanking. Asked him or not, you should've let the tank have it.

Essence of Gossamer is 100% a tanking trinket. If the actual tank in the PUG run needed the trinket also, then this hunter is in fact a huntard. If nobody actually needed the trinket, the hunter should've rolled greed and hope for winning the roll. The trinket is by no means a hunter trinket, and should never have gone to him. I completely agree with the tank's "nerdrage" due to the huntard needing on the tanking trinket. Hunters are not meant to be tanks. Period.

a trinket like that for a hunter, and a weapon like that for a rogue or warrior is different, a hunter can actually use the trinket on a regular basis and benifit from it as much as a tank can, unlike a rogue or warrior would from an epic weapon like that, which they would only use on rare occasions, and prob only for stats, and if he could use it as often as a tank could use it, and as efficiently, then let him go for it!

Dude, that was kinda fucked up. The tank probably didn't even know what it was when you asked him. You should have asked if he had it first or at least linked it with atlasloot. I don't know any tank that would agree to let a hunter roll on that if the tank didn't already have it, unless of course he just didn't know what the trinket was.

If he disapproved though, I think i would let him have it, simply because he IS the tank, after all, and he probably needs it more than you.

Essence of Gossamer is 100% a tanking trinket. If the actual tank in the PUG run needed the trinket also, then this hunter is in fact a huntard. If nobody actually needed the trinket, the hunter should've rolled greed and hope for winning the roll. The trinket is by no means a hunter trinket, and should never have gone to him. I completely agree with the tank's "nerdrage" due to the huntard needing on the tanking trinket. Hunters are not meant to be tanks. Period.

a trinket like that for a hunter, and a weapon like that for a rogue or warrior is different, a hunter can actually use the trinket on a regular basis and benifit from it as much as a tank can, unlike a rogue or warrior would from an epic weapon like that, which they would only use on rare occasions, and prob only for stats, and if he could use it as often as a tank could use it, and as efficiently, then let him go for it!
