  • great video. He seems to have learned very well that there is a wealth of information available by referencing you.

  • Oh how wonderful!! My son is 4.5 and autistic (currently nonverbal but has all speech indicators so we're just waiting!) We JUST started RDI and I am so encouraged by your videos!! Thanks and God bless you all!

  • hey i just picked up autism for dummies and dont let the title fool you its truly a great book and it gets indepth about everything the way food affect these guys and what proper teaching method suits ur child rdi is even there lol oh yeah so is dating its such a good book i hope u guys pick it up! i also appoligize for my typing im a little sloppy at times

  • AWSOME!!! What age did you start RDI with Henry?

  • we officially started in April with a certified consultant. Before that, we were just sort of doing it on our own (and not too well) since last summer. henry's speech therapist used to incorporate some rdi activities too, and we had worked with her for over a year. he doesn't do ST except for at school now.

  • Hey, great RDI activities! This one is especially appreciated since laundry is my husband's domain and he is at a loss as to how to RDI-ify it. Heaping loads of thanks for taping these activities. Your emotional connection with your son is so visible - lovely to see.

  • Very interesting. What a sweet little helper you have. I noticed a few times the "changing the rules" aspect of RDI; he responds as we might hope... finds it funny. Thank you for sharing.

  • awesome job mom and hank!!!! ive been teaching rdi to my students a little over 2 years..its truly amazing ...and for parent with children on the spectrum rdi is the best thing out righ tnow ..i still believe it should be incorperated with vb ..but i have seen major differences with all my kids..

  • sito..d'you have any other thoughts or experiences of combining RDI and VB? Some people say some principles are diametrically opposed but other writers on VB, such as Schram, thinks that VB programmes could benefit from using RDI type activities and structures when working in low-demand time during and outside of sessions.

  • yes actually where im working now used vb but now we are mostly using rdi. mu personal beleif vb is a foundation they should know as far as receptive and imitation ablities although we dont practice vb much at my place me being the personi am i use both at the same time in my sessions with my students during direct instruction..i am the reinforcer and if they are getting antsy ill do a fun behavior regulation and then place a demand on them ...they get tricked everytime =)

  • That's great! Thanks for for finding the time to respond so soon. You're really doing the rest of us parents a service by sharing your activities. Please keep 'em coming. My daughter is a way off from where Hank is in the eye contact department and we are condsidering encorporating RDI into her current VB programme to address this and other social/emotional issues.

  • Really interested in how you started teaching this activity. How did you get Hank to make the connection from your gaze shift to the direction of his throw? Any video of those moments. Ditto for your other videos. All would be greatly appreciated.

  • we had actually been working on eye gaze activities for over a year. One of our basic activities was a scavenger hunt where he would look for things he wanted following our eye gaze. first, we would stand real close and if he didn't get it, we would point or gesture, or verbally say where the object was...then little by little we would increase our distance from the object and use more subtle eye movement.

  • With this particular activity, i think i might have hand over hand shown his what to do, like "i look here and then you throw" he got it pretty quick, but if you have to hand over hand it a few times, that's normal at the beginning. sorry, we don't have any old videos to show...we just started taping this month.

  • Great job Henry! With parents like that you cant loose
