just all around good music , some will call it bluegrass and some call it old time. I call it good stuff. who cares what or were it came from. great music is great music . as to the red neck comment, just becuase were rednecks doesn't mean were racist. I no some black white and hispanics that will tell you there rednecks
ok, so it's not bluegrass, who gives a shit. it's good music any way you cut it. these kids have a gift. I saw them at Merle fest and cove Creek this year and it was worth the price. take care.
The style known as bluegrass was invented by Bill Monroe and Earl Scruggs in the same era that bebop and the doo wop sound were coming together, the mid-1940s. This is pre-bluegrass in style.
This is not bluegrass, this is Old Time Music. Old Time means before the countrypolitan movement of the fifties, when electric instruments, drums, and orchestration were introduced. This is for the most part what country music was in the 20s 30s and 40s, before commercial interests took over.
The driving elements present in bluegrass, the mandolin chop and 3 finger style banjo picking, are not present in The Drops' music. Neither are the upright string bass or harmony singing, other staples of bluegrass music. This music is an ancestor to bluegrass music. And it's great.

I heard them on NPR (national public radio) on the show The Folk Sampler. They actually played this very song. I have been hooked ever since. These guys are so unique and over flowing with talent!
I mean I wouldn't say unique, their music is basically Bluegrass, but it has an Black Southern flair to it. This kind of stuff used to be popular back during the Great Depression.
They are cool !

its more like, bluegrass has some of this to it. bluegrass is a reinvention of old time music and fiddling.
