They are amazing but to state them as one of the most underrated pop geniuses of all time is in itself an over exaggerating irony. I mean, of course they're fairly overlooked compared to the likes of Beatles or Elvis Presley, still they're one of the most influential AND best selling pop acts of latter 80's and early 90's and they're still wellknown with great air play as still of today. Leave it be.
Btw, the petshop boys were on a british show called the prince's thrust, where this other genuis, trevor horn, was doing a concert, and they did this song, and
that is the best live performance i ever seen or heared, because it sounds just like the studio version. superb! check it here on youtube!
The PSB are one of the most underrated pop geniuses of all time. Their melodies, the depth, humor, and irony of lyrics, quality of production/arrangement, visual designs - they are quite hard to match.
I would actually love the PSB and Madonna to seriously work together one day - i think they could make some great super-duper-pop tunes.
Youre so right, the pet shop boys are fablious! i live in holland, and i'm one of the few that knows more songs from them than the average dutch knows, but that's because i have a way better taste for good music than the average dutch have.
There will never be anyone like them. No one, not even Underworld (and that is saying a lot) can match the sheer complexity of their sonic textures, so detached yet so emotional at the same time. No one can match the brilliant irony of their lyrics which always manage to tell a story between the lines, and no one has been able to match the lovely abstractions always present in their videos.

Or I could love you, if I try
