@64Albere That is an excellent bit of information! The rankings were a huge selling point for the magazine. I bet their subscriptions have plummeted. Years ago, i used to go to a special library that had old copies of Rolling Stone and Billboard on microfilm and microfiche to research some things. Now, I could do the same research in less than 10% of the time it used to take me.
@AxeNewkill Microfilm ?? Microfiche ??.... I can,t remember using those research tools in a long time. Today its Wikipedia, Google search engine etc. Microsoft Encarta was a great software research tool but now... Billboard music ratings IS not the only music ratings website.
@64Albere The ironic thing is.. that I doubt the charts for the 80's albums have been converted from microfilm and microfiche into electronic form AND although the now very powerful and convenient electronic charts are available, the MUSIC now is so awful that the charts are meaningless. Music has been crap for the past 20 years. I think there are two main reasons for that: greedy record companies, teens more interested in video games than music. B4 video games, teens lived and breathed music.
Hello to Nerdling301,.....You should be happy your turning 22 this year,..I was 19 in 1980,,..Yea,..Then you would be alot OLDER and you would REGRET that,..I remember when I was in high school in the later part of the 1970`s I wished I was 10 years older,..But I`m happy `m not,..Or I would of been 60 right now,..Instead of 50
During the 80's, we took all this music for granted. Who would have ever thought that music from 1990 - 2011 would be so crappy? There are more memorable hits from just one MONTH of the 1980's than there have been in the past 20 years! Things started going downhill when rap became popular. This is not just my opinion, I can prove it. Pick up a copy of Rolling Stone or Billboard from the 1980's and look at the top 40. You find a lot of great songs. PIck up a current copy and find NOTHING!
@AxeNewkill agreed, rap killed the fun in music, we were introduced to a dumber kind of music because the people making it were mostly dumber, music that was cold with no heart, was very bland, unoriginal mostly, just plain boring, and took itself far too seriously.
@AxeNewkill Just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your candid assessment of today,s music scene . I actually would say though nowadays one doesn,t have to buy a music magazine... the Billboard ratings are available online.
@nerdling301 Yeah, but thenm I was 15 in 1980 and I wished I´d been 15 in 1960 so I could go to all the festivals and get me some of that free love...what I mean is that life´s what you make it, regardless of the era you´re born in
This is a nice song. The lyrics are nice. Much better than the terrible crap that is usual these days. Thank you very much Thompson Twins for making such a beautiful song.
"I see your face and sense the grace and feel the magic of your touch"!! what great and touching lyrics. Tom Bailey is such an awesome musician. The music of today does not rate highly with me. bring back the songs with feeling i say!!!! 80s music still rocks!!!!!
I love the Thompson Twins. Saw them in concert in Bloomington , mn in 1984 or 85. Great concert and they are and will always be a huge part of the 1980's music scene!!!!!
For those old enough to recall, what a drastic difference from the sound and approach to music between the late 70's and the early 80's. I mean, it was as if one day drum machines and sequencers weren't even invented then the next day they're used on every record. I know Kraftwerk were doing some major shit with synths in the 70's but it seems right when MTV came on the air in '80-'81, the synth became king of the world....that's why I liked metal :)
Love this song to bits!!! I had just turned 17 at the time and just started 6th Form, this was before British Music deteriorated into the vacuous void of Whitney Houston, Pet Shop Boys and Pete Waterman.
this song is awesome. i wish they played songs like this more often. many songs and artists nowadays really suck. although there a couple lights in the darkness currently, the 80's will always be the best. back then, musicians came from an era where you REALLY sung and you REALLY danced, and if you couldnt deliver then you werent able to become a more popular musician. im 13 and its sad to see my classmates not appreciate this kind of music. all they like to hear is autotuned, rhyming, repetiti
flashback. and the good kind. i havent heard this song in such a long time. the 80's. what a time to be a teen. hey,but wheres her hat? the foreign legion one. i read that it was their music in the movie, let the right one in. the original. not the remake.
Loved everything about the 80's...the clothes, the anything-is-possible attitude that prevailed at the time, the fantastic music and the fact that I was a teenager then,... dancing in clubs till all hours of the night. The music back then was much more than the unimaginative garbage they produce today.
If someone, bitch about this kind of music.....that group of people must be living in a dark and deep hole of ignorance, Thanks YOUTUBE for this videos and all the memories, thanks GOD for the 80's
Well not the best music, as the 60,s and 70;s were really better, but still love and miss the 80's. Especailly compared to the pure crap that;s out now.
@justlstn Well, my friend, we would have to go back in time to see The Thompson Twins perform live. I believe they disbanded after the Here's To Future Days Tour, I googled them a few years ago, and read that they all went their separate ways. I know there are a few websites that have a few Thompson Twins live shows. Google" Thompson Twins Bootlegs" I'm sure you will get lucky, Good Luck.
@justlstn Unfortunatly no.in an interview they said they are far to old to tour any more.Look up the group babble that is what the thompson twins did in the 90s.
GREAT SONG! recording posted is a bit "off" from movement/ to /lyrics, but still appreciate the song being here. Thompson Twins got credit for their talent on other songs, but didn't get the credit they deserved on this one. This song was emotionally powerful to those who understood it....
With all taste that I am able to muster--the lyricks and back up people were then and comtinue to be the true entertainers of this group. The lead singer of this group has and will always continue to be however, B O R I NG.
It's so cool to be able to go back through all of the music you've enjoyed for so many years. I was a United States Marine when this came out--so many wonderful memories. We all were rockin' then and still are. Take care and happy May Day.

The 80's were disappointing and at times depressing, you can't dress it up. A cynical decade full of accountants and estate agents- with grotesque haircuts and awfull clothes- on the make. However there were some bright spots.
I was lucky enough to have great seats at their Montreal concert. Tom even waived at us!!!! What a concert! I would also love to have a time machine just to go back to some of those wonderful, care-free 80s days.... and that amazing TTwins concert. I know this is wishful thinking but if they ever decide to tour again, Mtl should definitely be in their tour list. They have tons of fans here!

i am looking for a song i heard not tto long ago but i cant rememba the lirycs please help me tthe following lirics i could wrote:he dream..........loving on you ............rise. thats it and the a lady says the lirics the boy sings great song please help me
You can tell they really enjoyed playing the music. I noticed the same when I Tube'd The Outfield. I miss the '80s with Martha Quinn on MTV. All music and no BS!
Lately I have been very upset about the quality of comments from people on youtube... then I come here and everyone's so cool. Double thumbs up to you all.
@hall0833 and doesn't it reflect the rest of the world? one pub full of loud mouth eejits talking right over the music but one just down the block where people are actually listening and thinking before they open their mouths and just a whole lot cooler.
Isn't that the truth,I really miss 80s also!!! This group wasn't my fav,but were on my top list. UPLIFTING is way I describe their brand of music. And then Something Filthy This Way Came that horrible 1st sound of rap, which thank goodness got friendlier. You could not even call it music back in 90(trash). I have since ACTUALLY liked a lil. hehehe
wow, memories..... It was the eighties..... I, a student at the University of the Western Cape... the Anti-Apartheid struggle was at it's height.... the secret police all over - death was thick in the air!
I want to say that the words you say , supersabrejet, are the same that I think!! That it's true and never gonna be the same, the music, the time, for me the 80's are the besttttt!
The music of the 80's and part of the 90's is so good for the memories, and the good and simple way of life, the friends , the weather , the words in the songs, so clean and cool for any age , ..... God i will do magic to go back to those years,
Song reminds me of being 15 riding my bmx mongoose, under a scorching mid-july sun, to go to my friends pool. Probably had a portable radio or dad's Walkman. I probably was too cool for this song back then....but now I would pay dearly to return and to have nothing to listen to but this.
Becuase if you really lisen close .....it sounds like a prayer like your asking the LORD to lay his hands of strength and healing upon you in trying times of life.
I agree with the opinions below. Late '84, when this came out was the pinnacle of 80s pop culture. The rot set in round about late '85 when stylists and Record company Executives took over and made music bland like it is today. It's interesting that 1985 was the year that Whitney Houston makes her first appearance, and so the blandness starts.....sigh.
This song NEVER gets played on the so-called "80's music" radio stations but I remember it being a hit at the time. They only ever play the other big song, Hold Me Now, of which I am tired.
I´m 39, so a typical 80's-teen...I couldn´t agree more: there has never been or will ever be such an innocent yet joyful time.
Specially here in Brazil, the British Invasion ( as they call the early 80's when New Order, Prefab Sprout, The Cure, Smiths and the hole shebang arrived ) was fantastic!!! I´m happy I consider my-sorry-self fortunate for having lived then.
im 16 and just left school but i can remember the cd of the thompson twins bein played in the car and askin for the song doctor doctor to be played on our way down to the south of france
This was my generation but somehow this song did not really touch me back in those days, and I was a fan of Thompson Twins. But in recent years I've listened to this song, and quite a few others and I'm hearing something I could not appreciate back then.
I am 38 years old now, gosh how time flies, and feel lucky to have grown up in the 80s, the music in the 80s had an innocence, less cathartic as todays music, the big teased hair rocks, I remember turning up this song at cherry beach (in Toronto, Ontario, Canada), and remembering the Thompson Twins coming to Maple Leaf Gardens (which is about to become a grocery store), gosh bring back the 80s, oh well...
I remember they were one the first bands to bring the vari lights to Australia (Simple Minds did before them IIRC) and then Genesis went over board with them in 1986. I'm not usuaully one to look backward and pine over the so called good old days but the thing I remember most about the eighties was the music. It was the best ever, even better than the seventies.
I used to listen and play this song in Croatia, and Italy Since I was American, I thought it was cool to see that people on the Adriatic along the coast would take a sun tan on top of the roof, and Croatia is the NUDE BEACH CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. Brought back memories.
TO KING EINS: Only a lumpen like yourself who was obviously not alive during the 1980's could make such a vulgar comment like this one. My question is: why did you even bother to tune into this video? It is obvious that your ears are not trained for the excellent music produced in the 1980's. And one more thing: the 1980's was the first decade that INTRODUCED THE USE OF VIDEOS FOR TELEVISION. Unless of course, you think that MTV and VH1 are NEW INVENTIONS.
Yeeesss, isnt it wonderfull, to remember those days when we give our first kiss and dream about it and remember the moment scene by scene and get excited every time ! to the point that I am 39 now and when I heard this song I remembered it was playing that night back in 85 at the nighclub ..... HAAAA I AM GETTING OLD ha,ha,ha :)

You can tell they really enjoyed playing the music. I noticed the same when I Tube'd The Outfield. I miss the '80s with Martha Quinn on MTV. All music and no BS!

@hall0833 and doesn't it reflect the rest of the world? one pub full of loud mouth eejits talking right over the music but one just down the block where people are actually listening and thinking before they open their mouths and just a whole lot cooler.

Music never sounded so sweet. I really miss the eighties. And these guys were the best of that decade!
19671903 2 years ago 4
Isn't that the truth,I really miss 80s also!!! This group wasn't my fav,but were on my top list. UPLIFTING is way I describe their brand of music. And then Something Filthy This Way Came that horrible 1st sound of rap, which thank goodness got friendlier. You could not even call it music back in 90(trash). I have since ACTUALLY liked a lil. hehehe

Yet, there was THE TOMPSON TWINS!

What a romantic song!!! the 80´s and its lyrics...
Everyone must fall in love while hearing this melody, about feelings we have:
I see your face
And sense the grace
And feel the magic in your touch
Back and forth across the sea
I have chased so many dreams
But I have never felt the grace
That I have felt in your embrace

The music of the 80's and part of the 90's is so good for the memories, and the good and simple way of life, the friends , the weather , the words in the songs, so clean and cool for any age , ..... God i will do magic to go back to those years,
supersabrejet 2 years ago 6
Song reminds me of being 15 riding my bmx mongoose, under a scorching mid-july sun, to go to my friends pool. Probably had a portable radio or dad's Walkman. I probably was too cool for this song back then....but now I would pay dearly to return and to have nothing to listen to but this.

Jesus..the 80's were great to be a teenager. Great years...they lived up to the hype.

This song remembers me the first time I fall in love: 1985... was a great year. Do you people know what happened with the Thompson's?

I LOVE THIS SONG!!! Yes I'm SHOUTING!!!
Itchhhh 2 years ago
I agree with the opinions below. Late '84, when this came out was the pinnacle of 80s pop culture. The rot set in round about late '85 when stylists and Record company Executives took over and made music bland like it is today. It's interesting that 1985 was the year that Whitney Houston makes her first appearance, and so the blandness starts.....sigh.

This song NEVER gets played on the so-called "80's music" radio stations but I remember it being a hit at the time. They only ever play the other big song, Hold Me Now, of which I am tired.
I still love this gem!

I´m happy I consider my-sorry-self fortunate for having lived then.
love from Brazil y'all.

Pure Magic.
