  • +1 for the bedspread!!

  • nice bedspread! and video!

  • Smooth and silky

  • Thanks! Nice tone. What kind of guitar is that? Fender?

  • sounds like 12 bar blues

  • Thankyou for the class.....i learn a lot.

  • Nobody taught me anything. I just listened to the records and found my fingers around the frets of the guitar

  • lo thats the first thing my guitar teacher tought me.

  • thanks for born under a bad sign. great tune.

I also love your bed sheets. guitars all over them, looks really cool.

  • Actually if you have trouble with Lick one, and you're maybe looking for some songs to incorporate it in, Communication Breakdown and Good Times Bad Times Jimmy Page uses the first lick to start both solos out.

  • yea page uses alot of stuff in the same blues scales. i have no clue how he makes them sound better than anyone else who does them lol

  • nice vid man, yeh for beginners but good easy stuff to learn :)

  • Easy but can be tough.... haha i'm used to it now but man oh man

  • I know how simple lick 1 is... but son of a bitch.

I bend the 14th fret up..... then i pick the other strings and the E string usually doesn't ring out.

Cause my friggin middle finger is in the godamn way.

If that doesn't happen, then when i bend, i release and it's just horrible sounding.

My fingers are cramped up in that area... it's frustrating for such a simple freakin' lick.

Can anybody give advice besides the obvious 'just practice'?

I could use some real advice atm. -_-

    FUUUUUUUUU

  • I've played this lick for years, so I might be able to help.

I look at my fingers while I do the lick and it looks like my middle finger just follows the action of the third finger, almost helping it bend the G string. Imagine your middle finger being taped to your third for this lick.

As far as the horrible sound after the bend goes that could well be the G string ringing slightly. As i play it my thumb on my picking hand ends up muting the G after I pick it. Hope that helps.

    Rik

  • Yeah! The thumb works it but it mutes the sound in an unnatural way sometimes.

I have a pretty old guitar anyway. It goes out of tune alot if i bend so bending the G string will always be bothersome seeing that i gotta bend it to the right pitch but going different distances for the same pitch.

Eventually i'll need a new guitar to replace my beginner guitar.

I have scales down and whatnot. I just need to learn and practice licks.

Learn from the licks, not the licks themselves. That's 4 sure

  • And thanks buddy. Appreciate the helpful advice. =)

  • Also... do you know where i can learn tons of licks? I need to widen my vocabulary.

  • No probs dude. Obviously YouTube is a great resource for licks etc...but what I strongly suggest is listening to your favourite songs, or solos in your favourite songs, and when you hear a lick you like go and get the tab for the song and learn just that lick...then incorporate it into your music. Don't feel like you have to learn the entire solo, just break it all up into loads of individual licks. Worked great for me, and still does work great for me.

  • I've had ideas of the sort

But crap you gave it sense. I got it now man.

Thanks for the advice very much.

    much love!!!

  • listen to music

  • if your havin trouble because of space i would say lift your middle finger out of the way and just bend with your ring finger. The bend isnt very far so you dont really need both fingers to get a good controlled clean bend. I guess the downside is that the string is more likely to slip but if your not performing it wouldnt matter and wouldnt be likely on a lick like that anyway

  • instead of leaving your middle finger on the string try taking it off when hitting the E and the B. and dude, a little hand workout never hurt. Look up some videos on stretching your hand.

  • this thing is for begginers you should mantion it... i was looking for some thing faster but thanks

  • how long does it take to move your mouse to the Related Videos bar on the right?

  • The tabs on the screen are really helpful. Great job. Thanks a lot! 5 stars.

  • amazing!!

  • AWESOME!

  • thank you!

  • try making slash style lickss basic n stuff i bet you can get manyy many viewss many people wanna learn the style good viddeo btw keep it going mann thks

  • The truth is i used to think like that when i wasn't so good 'Hey bro show us them sweep arpegios and finger tapping and shreddin yeahhhh!'. Then i actually learnt my pentatonic scales and realised how stupid and naive i'd been.

The best way to improve is no doubt the blues

  • Hey! Thanks a lot for the video. But I have a question for the first lick. From witch scale did you take this lick. Is it from E min pent.

    Greetz

    Christophe

    Belgium

  • yes sir, e minor pent. I'll also hammer on the 3rd degree of the scale on the g string(12h13).. then play d string 14th. anything else added in would be the blue note! (13th fret on A string.)

  • 2:49 sounds like shout at the devli but the whole thing helped thx alot man

  • thanks dude

  • Great video super clear tab.

  • You have the best guitar videos, I've seen. It's really great for beginners and intermediate players

  • Thanks a lot this really helped =D

and I have a screamin blues pedal so that works well with the blues licks

  • Thanks for posting :)

  • how's ur amp set up on this to get that twang? is it just clean? how much treble/ bass is in it?

  • are u palm muting? or how do u get that twang sound?

  • well, the first part where i use the second guitar i accidentally left my wah petal in the down position so that could be the extra twang your hearing. i dont think i was palm muting but try it out both ways anyway.

  • You can make money off this James! YOU CAN MAKE MONEY OUT OF THIS TALENT! *cough* metacafe

    *cough* downtown

omg! the 2nd part where you teach the pantomic scale is what my bass teacher taught me in my last lesson!
