Art is not only for art. It's not for nothing that arts exists. Picasso was considered as crap in the past. And today he represents the culture of his people. This is what art is all about; carrying our people through history, the same way Germany has their great composers and France their Ballets, etc, etc. What do we have here in Canada? @OMGaNEWBIE you don't get it. most ignorant people don't. cultural works involving theatre, music, art dance, music generates 7% of our gdp or $85 billion. for $300 million a year. it's a bargain. cirque de soleil started as a canadian arts grant and is now a $2 billkion company - and all the grants have been paid back many times over by taxes, jobs, and worldwide presence. you sow a field and you win and lose breaking even until you win huge and it all is worthwhile.

I've seen little 2 year old girls do the same thing for free! For those of you that are opposing cuts in funding to artists like Gillis, just go pay your $50 to go see her. Problem solved!
most of you people sound like jerks. margie gillis is amazing. whether she is past her prime as a dancer or not - she can move beautifully, her physical expression is unparallelled, and i think it's wonderful to see a woman her age come alive on the stage. i hope she is still dancing at 100!
Margie Gillis used to be a wonderful dancer, but she's certainly past her best years now. I appreciate her contribution, but her achievements of today (like "Voyages into the inner landscapes") look more like desperate attempts to stay on the stage in spite of her age/attract public attention no matter what. I'd rather watch some of the younger dancers she taught - are there any of them worth mentioning? Who knows?
Margie is like a goddess to me... I stopped dancing ten years ago, and got fat, so I can't go back now. Watching her makes me feel the way I used to when I was losing myself in movement. It's like a lifeline.
