Some people say that Don Walker is a brilliant australian song writer and I agree. On the other hand what is fogotten is that Jimmy Barnes is the best vocal artist australia has ever known. Without the voice of Jimmy Barnes the Guitar playing of Ian Moss and the collaboration of Steve Prestwich (song writer/drummer) and Phil Small (bass guitar) there wouldn't be the greatest australian band call "Cold Chisel" See them live, you'll understand what I mean.........
@saririch saw em last night.I understand.Radio stations give them a bad image.Come see Baaaarrrnnnssseey lol. They are way classier than that.Great lyrics and great songwriting played by great musicians and singers.I got turned off by them as a teenager in the early 80s but now I've seen the light and not as prententious as I used to be.Wish I followed my 2 sisters advice and watched them play back in their heyday.
wow, my dad was lucky to grow up with this... i still listen to cold chisel stuff thats on tapes and rocords that my dad kept.... what i would give to have music like this everyday :)
@RaeRaeBower I suspect you're right, cos Aunty Jack says, "If they disband again after this tour's done, I'll come and rip their bloody arms off!!!" So here's to the future... Chisel will ALWAYS be the best ;-)
@username5964 in my opinion, East was there best album. Cheap Wine, Ita, Star Hotel, Breakfast at Sweethearts and of course Four Walls, brilliant album
@miarosa2008 sorry but not true. this sing made sense to me when i was just a little girl. i guess some get it n some dont. my alltime fav band. Legendary hall o famers.
WOW so much could be achieved in 1980 with 2.23 minutes. Its the standards Chisel classic. This and Janelle. I hoighly recommend seeing Jasnelle's tribute. Its awesome on a Chisel afternoon.
you're loseing everything you had before you went in,,and hoping what you're waiting to see again when you're out,,,is gonna be there for you. and you know its not going to be the same.'When you know you've let down the most important people in your life,,,its pain. These songs pin it down for me,,,4 walls and Gravy.
Give it a try some time,,,thats the only way you'llget it.
More than just a Pub band, one of the greatest bands ever, we were lucky to have seen them up so close. Akl, Mainstreet, a guy threw a glass jug (Th' old days) at barnes and hit him in the head, barnsey charged and kicked him in the chest, laced up boots, right next to me, jimmy went off chugged some vodka and gave his all..climbed the swaying P.A. and raged on!...real rock'n'roll!!!
i'm doing this song with my band totally acoustic I had to tell them to check it up on you tube - they had neva heard of it??? I'ts gonna be freakin brilliant :)
Hey mate - post it on here when you've done it. I play in a band too and I can't talk the dicks into doin' this absolute classic!! Would love to hear a newer/modern version if it's done right! Good luck.
Saw Mossi sing this with Chisel at Melbourne Park. He smashed it. Awesome show would love to see them one more time.

What is it about 'prison songs' that can elicit such emotions...check out 'How To Make Gravy'by Paul Kelly.

Really, hust because it's not some flasshy 80s style thing, and more like Chisel live. All the raw emotion of it laid bare, how it should be.
