This is the MUTT and was built by Ford, Ford Fucked up the whole thing by adding Independent Suspension front and rear. theres a reason why Jeeps have had Solid axles since the beginning, and this is why. Ford thought that the ride quality would be improved, which it did, but it became very unstable and prone to rollovers, as well as the offroad capability blew.

@gear15100 I disagree. I doubt very much that the Jeep the MUTT replaced was any better at not rolling over. Off road capability did not blow either. The lack of an axle hanging across the middle has some distinct advantages. If I had the choice between M38 and a MUTT, I would chose the MUTT any day. Although a little hairy, I used to drive an Army issue MUTT on the autobahn @ 70 mph all day. An M38 could only dream of that feat.

That looks like an M 151 (MUTT) They were known for roll overs and were dropped from service a little sooner that some other rigs. They were also NOT released to public tender on their retirement. They were scrapped in this country anyway. The Old M 38 and M38 A1 were not as fast but they gave warning before flipping.

Canada replaced this with the ILTIS thew USA went with a much larger HUMMER.

Canada now uses the Mercedes G wagon .

actually, this is after WWII when Ford owned it and fucked with the original design and added independent suspension which made it very unstable on and even offroad it was garbage. but since there design the Jeep got only one good design out of the whole thing, a roll bar was added and has been standard equipment ever since.

lol jeeps were originally designed to be cheap but efficient transport, thats why early jeeps didn't have any safety features, today you get a roll cage and a box steel frame.

@92MustangLover I wouldn't trust the "roll cage" at 60mph. It's more of a "tip over cage". But I guess that's the main function of a jeep anyways. I'm just coming from the prerunner world and a cage mounted to the body is a joke. Even if those mounts sit directly above the frame rails. It should tie into pressure plates welded to the frame. Oh well, I'll stop rambling. I just hate jeep cages.
