  • Another good one Dan....and from my neck of the woods. Bill Hooks has a great book on the history of the Little River Lumber Co. and railroad called "Whistle over the Mountain......". Bill is a wealth of info and will talk your ear off. Thought you might be interested in the book and maybe interviewing him when you are down this way again.

  • Thanks so much rj,

I have the book! It is an awesome guide to the history of the area. I think Bill would be an excellent interview as well, We'll put him on our list of people to ask.

    Thanks again

    Dan

  • Bill Hooks died this past Sunday October 5, at 4:09 p.m. at NHC Fort Sanders of Advanced Cancer. Till his death, his room was decorated with all of his trains, and pictures of trains. I do not know if they are planning any kind of memorial service for him or not.

  • We will think of Bill whenever we hear a Whistle

  • Great video!

  • Train?

  • I tried to watch, but the link doesnt work?

  • Gotta show this to my Dad when he gets back in town.

He's a retired switchtender for the Northern Pacific Rail Road.

    The whole family loves trains.

    Thanks for the great story...Doc

  • Thanks Doc,

I am reading a great book on the building of the Railroad in the 1800s. I think it is all fascinating

  • That was a great story. Thank you Dan.

  • Thank You so much 47xxys

  • Thanks Dan, it was really interesting hearing Harry speak on his subject. Great production as always, I even caught a snippet of Renetto's tubeit in there!:)

  • I think so too.

  • Thanks Anthony, I know I will sound a bit out of the loop, but what is a Renetto? or a Tubit for that fact?

    eek I am so old.

  • Tubeit (or "Tube it") was a song writen by Renetto, you used it at 53 secs as a transition piece:)

  • Thanks, I am so out of the loop. I just used stock Mac music from Garageband. I am upgrading my editing program, maybe I'll have some more original stuff in the future.

    Thanks for the knowledge Anthony

    Dan

  • Now you mention it, he did say he got it from Garageband!:))

  • Thank you so much Therese

  • That was really interesting...I had never thought about how difficult it would be to move a train without using a railroad track....Well done Dan!

  • Thanks Daniel, I agree, it looked to me like the whole thing was leaning off the trailer. eeek

  • I always enjoy your videos.

  • Very nice of you to say ponhand

    thanks

    Dan

  • Well Don! Very Nice. :~D

  • Thanks Edenmaze

  • If my gGrandfather were alive he would have enjoyed to be preserviing ye old train. He worked on the engines in Key West, Florida, until the 1935 hurricane put a end of an era not to ever travel the Keys again.

  • That sounds really cool, I wish someone would do a YouTube video/history on the Key West train.

  • Nice job. I go to Townsend and stay there once every year to ride my motorcycle with my family in the Smoky Mtns.

  • Thanks Zenbeer,

We always approach the mountains from the Peaceful Side.

  • Neat Video...Thanks.

  • Thank You whunterx!

  • Ohhhh trains !! I love trains..... Thanks !!
