Maybe if they focused more and racing than a singing engine, they might win some more.

Also, I'd love just to see if a NASCAR could top an F1 car in a top speed test. I remember them testing what I believe was the Rothmans Porsche 962 vs. Tim Richmond's Chevy Monte Carlo and the Monte Carlo was faster. It'd be a nice re-hash to see if things have changed. I would venture to say, given a long enough straight, that a stock car could do close to 250 mph now without a restrictor plate.

I saw in a documentary that they pump the coolant and oil at operating temperature through the motor for a half hour or so before starting the engine. The tolerances are so tight that the engine won't spin when it's cold.
