I don't know the exact date, but it's from the Jacobs/McVicar performances of 'Agrippina '. (Brussels & Paris).

I *think* this is from Théatre des Champs-Elysées in '03, but don't quote me on it. ;)

I know it's from one of the Jacobs/McVicar 'Agrippina' performaces, and I *think* this is from the run at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées in Paris 2003.

Yes, she's brilliant - and all female. As anyone knows who've followed her carreer from early on, and know she's got two darling daughters. ^_^

Sorry to sound like a jerk, but I have performed with Bartoli at least thirty times, and can assure you that her high notes are not aided and abetted by the studio! Nor di Donato's!!! I adore Malena, but don't think that she is entirely in that category, but still wonderful...

A lot of mezzos have the same vocal ranges as a soprano. it is more to do with the quality of their voice. Some contraltos can hit top 'c's but they're not really expected to...Look for Ewa podles. A fine example of a contralto with a range of about four ocatves.

Gudrun was right. I saw one of this performances in Brussels, june 29, 2003 with Anna Caterina Antonaci, Miah Person, Lorenzo Regazzo, Lawrence Zazzo, Dominique Visse, and of course Malena Ernman, Concerto Koln, directed by Rene Jacobs. The stage director was David Mc Vicar. It was a wonderful performance!

I find it quite tasteless. What's the reason to take cocaine in such an aria? To sing coloratura better? At the end it does not really work, as the singer is never together with the oboe!

I'm not sure if we are listening to same clip or if there is some noise disturbance where you are listening, but as far as I can tell she is absolutely together with the oboe throughout the entire aria. I say Bravo to an astonishing vocal performance in combination with convincing acting.
