  • hahaah! paul motherfucking gilbert!

  • @JSSV but i think ur right, Vai is an INSANELY good guitarist and one of my favorites!

  • @JSSV and look up Allan Holdsworth, he's also a crazy man on the guitar!!

  • @thewayofthesword995 Cheers man, i'll look up allan now i've ever heard of him before to be honest

  • Well he's obviously insanely great as a musician, but I like how he admits that he's basically a rocker and is maybe just a bit limited in that way. Personally I think he can probably play anything ever written. Rock or not.

  • 5:35 - He's a madman! A madmaaaaan!

  • I don't understand why there's so much ragging on Steve Vai. Sure he's a little goofy sometimes (I blame Zappa for that), but I've never seen Vai come off as anything but someone who genuinely loves the guitar. Malmsteen's a wanker, though. :)

  • where is the rest of this!!!¿????

  • He wears a ring???....hmmm AHH i get it he wants to seal his destructive powers in there so he wont go out of control and mankind can watch his lessons...nice idea Paul

  • @tehwasabiking agreed... He can be a little bit annoying sometimes( "now, this is the easiest thing on the world" then a 15 note inverted sweep.. :P) but nothing near arrogant

  • Jesus is Lord

  • @phantomf4j He's good, but he knows it kinda thing///

  • ass hat comment.

  • kind of sounds like the 'my friend of misery' bass intro by metallica

  • beautiful tone man.

  • So Clean

  • thanks for that lesson paul, too bad 99,9999% of us don't have a 12-string bass :D

  • Great video thanks a lot x posting it, by the way what instrument is that, what brand ?!

  • TOCA DE MAIS

  • Thanks for showing me that Paul.

I'll just go and get my twelve string bass out of my... Oh that's right...

    WE DON'T HAVE ONE.

  • paul gilberts a trip :D

  • THIS GUY IS SERIOUSLY BAAAADASS!!!

  • i saved the power drill part to my phone

  • this must be SUCH a bitch to tune.

  • @xjustxkidsx Not hard to tune at all - 1 bass string and 2 guitar strings an octave above it. They're easier to play than you might think (but not if you play it like Paul does here)

  • I think i'd have fun tuning that 12 string...

  • he loves big things in his sound....tis is he my idol :3

  • i dont care who is arrogant or who is not, its not the issue.. but i am more attached to paul.. i dont know he got me so deep.. i listened to yngwie, vai, petrucci but none of them suit my soul. Paul does, maybe his strong personality e.g. homourous, simple, dont care much about self image but care about his guitar playing.. thats all.. so paul is for me. Just choose.. as simple as that, no need to argue about this and that.. you silly childish..

  • i don't think vai is an arrogant guitarist... but will never be on the same level as paul (at least on a technical level. musically-wise... that's your own opinion.

  • hahahahhaa XD WTF was that in the end !!! Fucking cool !! xD

  • The 12 string bass shit is very cool, as well as anything Paul does on the almighty six string........

  • Paul Gilbert is probably my biggest influence as a musician. He is one of the most talented musicians anywhere on the planet and he is very soft spoken and humble. He knows more theory than he is letting us know he does. Paul is one of the mst powerful soloists anywhere in any genre and cannot be compared to anyone else, including Vai or Malmsteen.

  • @GuitaristWayneWhite he's pretty much my biggest influence too, both as a musician and as a person.

  • i love paul gilbert

  • i hate how everyone who loves paul trash talks yngwie and vai and stuff their all fucking amazing!

  • I fuckin love Paul Gilbert. Yea, lets just get the driil out for a laugh. Wicked.

  • wow why is he giving us lessons on this? its not like anyone is gonna have that type of guitar haha XD

  • Chord change playing is hard for Paul? What a liar :D.

But Marty Friedman could easily play over chord changes though... Look at his DVD on YouTube, he even goes over how to do it. But basically you have to know a shit load of arpeggios in many positions so his approach is ok I guess.

    Just saying. Love um both.

  • To play over Chord changes first you have to learn the basic 7 modes of the major scale after that you start looking for other possibilties like the harmonic minor's 7 modes and melodic minor's 7 modes and ofcourse the independent whole tone,augmented,half-whole and whole-half...after a ton of practice when you learn to use them in a natural way you could learn to improvise good.

  • @AtanasovPeter Yeah I'm currently on Position 2 for Pebber Brown's CAGED System.

Check out Pebber Brown on Youtube, best free guitar teacher on YouTube, his site if you look on google has a TON of downloads relating to guitar including exercises, charts, info, etc.

  • man...i have read 10 books about modes and harmony i don't need lessons

  • That 12 string sound is amazing.

  • wtf, i still dont get why u should pick with a drill? xD

  • @VansVulcan Because it's awesome. =P

  • When the drill came out I LOL'd so hard! It's so outrageously ridiculous!

  • @DrTorture28

Funny. Paul Gilbert been using the drill for decades.

  • This guy is ridiculous!

  • what kind of sus chord is he using?

  • @CoC350 sounds like sus4 to me =P

  • Fuck you Paul Gilbert! Why do you have to be so much better than I'll ever be?! :P

  • Is there anywhere to download this song (12.12)?

  • Itunes

  • We Love You Paul!!!.Aiiiieeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

  • Dude im still stone and WTF! That is super sweet!!

  • Wow!! Paul Gilbert on bass!!

  • Staccato is stressed and seperated notes. Basically stated that you should hit the note hard, but make sure it doesn't ring.

  • Staccato = Note stopped half-way.

Accentuate = Play the note harder.

What you speak of is an Accentuated staccato note.

  • Yeah pretty much. I was trying not to be to technical, but you explination does make more since.

  • is that a hamer bass

  • DUMM FUK He have same Laney as my :D

  • WTF i was talking about the bass not the amp you fuckin cunt

  • At 1:48 it sounds like the bass intro of my friend of misery

  • can someone tell me what sticcato means? i would guess it has to do with not letting the notes ring but im not sure...........

  • Yeah it's basically just getting the notes on their beat but only lasting an instant.

  • thanks ive been wanting to know what it was for a while

  • Lsiten to some ska for good examples or bob marley, they've normalyl got really choppy short chords x

  • staccato means short and choppy. so basically you are right.

  • yup, you are right. Staccato means you should not let it ring out. A lot of Metallica and Megadeth riffs (in fact pretty much all thrash metal bands) are staccato ... played by partially muting the sound with your palm.

  • it means short

  • Those Artcore guitars are one of the best values for the money I've seen. I've got a cheap little smaller bodied semi hollow Artcore from a few years back, and it's still one of my favorite guitars to pluck around with. Sounds eerily similar to a Les Paul Florentine, I shit you not.

  • well I bloody well would if I was that good

  • there's no way in hell you are any more wrong... NO ONE is as humble and as nice guy as Paul is :)

  • @hammerawaylisten yep, Paul, Satch and Petrucci are some of the coolest guitarists, and I think it would be really pleasant to jam with :) Vai and Malmsteen on the other hand... not

  • Paul is the opposite of arrogant. If you want to see an arrogant guitarist go watch Yngwie or Vai.

  • so true although i actually disagree with you about Steve there. Having met Steve vai a couple of times i'd actually say that he's actually very humble but he uses the image that people have of him as "arrogant and full of himself" as a way to make jokes and poke fun at the whole "rock star" stereotype.

  • Mainly Ynwie on that point. Many other pros have said he is by far the hardest to work with.

  • you're forgetting the 40 exclamation points after Yngwie J. Malmsteen

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo Vai is not arrogant my friend, he is much like Paul. Vai is just eccentric in a different way than paul lol. Now Yngwie, he's a douche lol

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo i think more yngwie than vai

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo hehe ur right man.. yngwies my favorite guitar player but he is one arrogant man.. paul just likes to joke he always does that... thisssss is the 12 string.. bla bla.... or..... this is a song calledddddd scarified.. lol

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo vai isnt arrogant at all, hees a very down to earth humble dude

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo i don't think vai is an arrogant guitarist... but will never be on the same level as paul (at least on a technical level. musically-wise... that's your own opinion.

  • @jonahtran1 You don't think Vai matches paul in musical technicality?

I'm a huge Vai and Paul fan. I actually happen to prefer alot more of pauls music to Vai's but Vai is undoubtedly far beyond any other guitarist (atleast that I know of) in terms of compositional skill and technical ability.

It's not my opinion, It's just a fact lol

  • @JSSV Check out Shawn Lane. You'll poop your f'n pants.

  • @Buttanick I know shawn, Not on the same page when it comes to composition though lol

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo definitely agree. paul is very down to earth, and if he were to become arrogant at any time, he most certainly has the skills to back it up. but we of course know this wouldnt happen because he's not arrogant whatsoever.

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo Whoa let's not forget that Vai and Yngwie wrote some of the greatist instrumentals of all time!! Paul is extremly tallented, to call Vai and Yngwie is in it's self arrogant, whether or not you like them you need to repect what they both brought the world of guitar music!!

  • @hmrockdude Same with paul gilbert. Paul gilbert is probably the most down to earth 'shredder' i know of.

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo Vai is anything but arrogant dude. You're wrong about that.

  • @TheHockeyCentral Yeah Vai is really relaxed !! But I mean why do people hate on guitar players , just enjoy the stuff they do !! Personally I'm a big Yngwie fan , i don't care how he behaves. Ok the men has a attitude WOW !!! he is human !! I met Paul in person last week and he is really really cool !! Its just incredible.

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo Vai isnt arrogant, he pretends to be as a joke (if you see the video where hes talking about the fan, or the one where hes demoing his new pedal) but hes joking around, hes actually pretty humble

  • @MjXllcommando no, he is not really "arrogant" but he is weird... when he was touring as a solo guitar player, he would sit about 10 meters away from the rest of the band writing in his diary, i heard he has changed since then but anyhow, he isn't near as humble and kind like Paul. otherwise if he cared about his fans he wouldn't do a masterclass with 125 people but with 6 or something like that.

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo

    Steve Vai isn't arrogant though..

Steve Vai is fancy and theatrical but not arrogant. :/

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo I wouldnt say Vai is arrogant, but just very proud of what he can do. I can understand that about Yngwie though lol

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo Vai is not arrogant just watch the jemini distortion pedal demo

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo Lol so many people disagree with you. So do I.. Vai is not arrogant at ALL.

  • @Mofozofo I think the fan an Vai's special appearance make him seem arrogant

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo Oke yngwie is a fuckign ass but Vai is nog arrogant! How dare you!!

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo i get yngwie but how is vai arrogant?

  • @motorcycleguitarsolo Yngwie I can understand but Vai? How is Vai even remotely arrogant?

  • @Whackooyzero Umm.. have you seen any of his videos? He is a great guitar player (And so is Yngwie) but Vai thinks like he invented the whammy bar and shit. He thinks hes like the pioneer for a whole new guitar age.

  • believe me he is everything else but arrogant.

  • Gilbert, arrogant ?

You must be a socially awkward moron...

  • i think his shirt is older than i am

  • he plays skip strings which is easier then sweep picking and sounds almost the same

  • harder

  • such an amazing piece

  • Haha paul sounds like stoned guy saying 'duuuude' here.

Must be well hard to hit the chords on that beast though.

  • that is one bad mofo bass

  • How did he manage the hissing and the feedback of his semi hollow guitar?

  • By not using silly ridiculous amounts of gain.

  • 1:20 reminds me of the intro to my friend of misery

  • He stole it!!!

Just kidding, but it almost is it.

  • tru dat bro

  • I wish I had hands that fucking huge.

  • THAT is one mean, scary looking instrument, lol

  • Comment removed

  • What is with him and power drills?

  • it's his thing xD it makes one of the meanest sounds i've ever heard on a guitar lol

  • paul gilbert ply bass??? killer

  • paul rules

  • KOOL I DIDNT KNOW PG PLAYED THE BASS TOO

  • AH HAHA AH ;))))))))))))

    yeah ill buy one !!!

  • haha that was awesome right at the end

  • How thick are his strings, I always assume shredders have super thick strings because they are just epic like that... but now I wonder... can you shred that hard on thick strings >.>?

  • Easier to pick the strings when they're not flapping about. Thicker means less movement.

  • How fast do Paul Gilbert's fingers move? As fast as his drill can...

  • Nahhh it's even faster.

  • dat drill hell scared me...

  • dude, i want one of thoes!!

  • King's X's bassist used a 12 string bass as well.

  • has he ever played a baritone? if you think about it, it would really be perfect for him.

  • Hahaha Awesome vid, and that part with the drill is badass but in a weird way, funny.

  • this dude is fucking nuts!!!! its a drill virtuoso hahaah paul is the best =)

  • HOLY SHIT!

    Did he invent that guitar??

  • he probably just acquired it and decided to write a song with it

  • the 12-string bass? actually the bassist from cheap trick came up with the idea and pursued it which is why in basically all of their live performances he uses it :o

  • I'm not complaining since I absolutely love his tone and music and all, but I could swear all of his guitars sounded exactly the same.

  • His guitars don't sound the same, his set up is always the same. That's why you can always tell it's PG's tone, it's his own tone. He's not gonna keep changing it cause he found one that suits him.

  • Paul is the man

  • paul come to Argentina we love you...

  • paul gilbert is fucking cool :P i love him so muchhh

  • I laugh every time I see him fucking around with that drill. I love it.

  • that diminished lick he does at 4:21 is sick

  • THE DRILL

  • how do you get that tone?

  • on the guitar

  • bass

  • Thousands upon thousands of dollars.

  • with a drill...

  • I don't play bass guitar, (electric & acoustic only), but this is TOTALLY worth picking up a bass, for learning! This sounds SO cool!

  • this is definitely one of my favorite songs on this album!

  • oo i think we have a Tom Peterson fan guys.

  • paul gilbert playing BASS!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • he can play anything

  • The correct thing would be to say any electric stringed instrument

  • im sure if he put his mind to it he can do it :) despite his modesty

  • listen to acoustic samurai..

    out goes the electric :P

  • There's also footage of him playing drums!

  • he is using a pick though, wonder how well he would play without one? O.0

  • by far .. the god of guitar .. geez ..

  • i think he did a ot better than eddie van halen.....the power drill... that is..

  • I nearly died of laughter from the part with the power drill. XD

  • they string skipping part just sounded like symphony of destruction kick ass paul!!!!!1

  • i want one

    cool bass

  • WTF!!!!!! he can shred with a drill!! goddamnit and it still sounds flawless:P

  • asshat.

  • what is an asshat?
