Get them while they last prepper, House of Rep. Stivers just put forth bills this week in washington Dec. 2011 to immediately change Nickels and Pennies (cents for your purists) to steel. They will coat the cents with copper. Stivers is from a steel producing state & it will help add jobs if this goes through. The last coin of real value, the nickel, is about to be made worthless. Real copper pennies (95%) last made before oct. 1982 are fast disappearing as people search them out.
Any 1942-1945 nickel is a 35% silver content nickel. Visit all of the flea markets you can find. I got some good finds. One thing I bought is a framed set of war pennies and war nickels. I paid slightly less than spot for the silver and I have something to hang on the wall.
Great way to get Ur kids involved in collecting/saving.Mayb get a "Charlton Coin Guide" or similar would help...I also save foreign coins/ paper notes/stamps/antiques-tools/rare books...n other stuff.
an s on the nickel means it was minted from the Sanfranciso Mint...P=phili. d=denver etc

Good going! Too many people do not realize what a long term investment is. A silver nickel can have a P, D, or S mint mark.

Ya I save nickles too. Once the metal value equals the face value, that coin is pretty much immune from inflation.
