Bonjour, gaumarjos, parev ! The Georgian sources are the first to mention the Davidic origin of the Bagratids. The earliest source is Juansher's History of Vakhtang Gorgasal (c. 800). The next source is the stone effigy in low relief of Adarnase's son, the Curopalate Ashot I the Great of Iberia (813-830) from the church of Opiza, in Shavsheti. In this I follow Amiranashvili and Cyril Toumanoff, Studies in Christian Caucasian History, II, p. 328, Georgetown University Press, 1963. :-)
OK. I will check those sourses, too. They are newer then Khorenatsi, anyway. By the way, it is very likely that the origins of Bagratids (Armenian and Georgian brunches) cold be the Jewish. BUT it seems to be UNLIKELY, that they are Israel's King Davidic origin. For, King David lived about 2000 years (!!!) before Juansher. I don't beleive that Juansher could have discovered info of that ancinet ages...
I think it's only a legend, some also say that the Bagratids are relatives of Christ :) but I'm not sure that he was himself discendent of king David as there is written in vangel :)
Also, to be honest, I am sire that OUR Bagratids were such great leaders of Armenia and Georgia, that they do not need special glorification by relationship with King David. Our Bagratids were greater than King David!
გამარჯობა ! Moses of Khorene (Movses Korenatsi) in a word. His History of Armenia (Patmutiwn Hayoc, which is "pour une très large part" a patmutiwn vrats'), possibly dating from the earliest beginnings of Armenian litterature, purporting to have been writen in the later half of the 5th century, but actually compiled in the second half of the 8th, between 755 and 761.
The standard reference work for Moses is R.W. Thomson (Moses Khorenats'i, History of the Armenians, trans. Cambridge, Mass., 1978) Moses was probably bishop of Bagrevand under the sovereign control of Sahak Bagratuni, appointed Prince of Armenia by the caliph from 755 to 761. Sahak Bagratuni commissioned his "Kert'ol" to write a General History of Armenia. Do you agree ?
Bacurius, to agree or disagree with WHICH point? Movses Khorenatsi (Movses of Khorene) lived in 5th century. Yes, his work was edited in later ages, too. You can find the full text online.

When Saakashvili came to power in 2003the tbilisians armenians where proud of him saying thet he is armenian, and his grandfather the proff. Mikhail Saakyan was a brave men. In Georgia there are many brave armenians who loves their country Georgia, but Saakashvili is a different armenians, whery unfortunately for all us.
The Georgian Bagrationi dinasty has hebrew roots, and there is a version that they are discendents of King Davit of Isreal. I personaly allways was a repubblican ;-)
Here is oldest info about their origins. The Armenian historian Movses Khorenatsi (5th century) mentions that the Bagratids come from a Jewish Bagrat who came to Armenia to serve the king. By Georgian historian Sumbat Davitis-dze (11th century) seven Jewish brothers from Israel's King David's dynasty come to Georgia and Armenia, and Geo. and Arm. Bagratids are their children. Part about King David is a fairy-tail. The fact that they were RELATIVES is reasonable: Davitis-dze lived in THEIR time.

Hard to say what the word "discendent " means, at all, when we are talking for such huge distance of time: 1000-1500 years and more...

During that meeting Saakashvili said that a few years ago, when he was opposition, others were calling him "an Armenian"... trying to hurt him...

Well, that process has deep roots... Even the Georgian Bagrationi kings had Armenian roots... So Saakashvili continues the tradition...
