  • I like that you added the team shot with boginskaya at the end.. I really think that after her, everything is so robotic--- and I think nadia was not as artistic as people made her out to be... she was technical- just like the girls today.

  • 1:25 any more footage?

  • I miss the era around the 70's - mid 90's gymnastics. This was truly when gymnasts not only tumbled but performed. Lovely tribute. Thank you!

  • Beautiful.

  • We owe modern women's gymnastics to the East Block, and jury decisions within a minute (rather than 15 or more) to Common Sense.

The rise of US gymnasts demonstrates that perfect performance does not require Siberian discipline. Against the backdrop of what the East Block girls had to go through and delivered, I still have much more respect for them. Just a personal gut feeling.

  • Yes, I miss the beauty, artistry, and grace of gymnastics from a few decades ago. I have become a big fan of rhythmic gymnastics now because it still focuses not just on big tricks and athleticism, but also on beauty and grace. It is so much more beatutiful to watch now than gymnastic. The same craze for bigger, better, and cooler has infected ice skating as well, and I've become a great fan of ice dancing versus ice skating for the same reason.

  • Olga Korbut was amazing. Her performance on the beam and uneven parallel bars was a work of art. I'm glad I was able to see it on TV in 1972.

  • Beautiful.

  • They danced better!!!

  • wow.

  • hus singing "edelweiss" here? - was that julie andrews?

  • @jsarahina Yes

  • Vera is inspiration for all of us

  • little lady gaga

  • That is such a powerful moment when Vera did that... In that era and in the issues surrounding it, it was a very brave gesture indeed. Poor Nadia, I think 1980 mightve been the peak in outrageous anorexia in gymnastics....

  • aaaaaaw what a beautiful gymnast R.I.P

  • Ooh that gives me shivers. So poignant and nostalgic. Good job. :)

  • Vera Caslavska la novia de méxico, hermoso reconocimiento a una gran gimnasta.

  • Wow the uneven bars look really small

  • Wow, gymnastics is more than a sport...is the art of the sport.

  • i love the vid but um....but wat is sovient reunion? wat does it hav to do wit gymnastic??

    i seriously dun noe....

  • I don't quite understand 'soviet reunion' but if it means soviet union then i will say that the Soviet Union dominated gymnastics until '92 with artistry and difficulty so this is predominantly a partial tribute to them while still acknowledging Nadia's huge contribution...

  • @domperrier its not runion its union u r getting confused

  • The "Soviet Union" refers to a confederation of countries, headed by Russia. It existed from the 1920's to the 1980's, when the various countries separated into self-rule. Look it up on Wikipedia.

  • Unfortunately so many sports have become trick fests versus the artistry that so many of the older athletes exhibited. For me, the gymnastics of the 08 Olympics is rather boring....no personality what so ever. FYI, I like figure skating as well and the same can be true for this sport. JMHO. Thanks for the beautiful tribute!

  • i agree. The 08 beijing games on the gymnastics side have been boring because of the covrage. in 04 it was extremly exciting this year they only showed chian and usa thats it and then maybe 2 other gymnast i was very disapointed they didnt make it exciting

  • @jhreinvestor Thanks for watching!

  • Beautiful video, and brought back some great memories.

    Thank you.

  • Romania was not part of soviet union,we were independent and we didn't stop winning after that, remember Lavinia Milosevici?last perfect ten!

  • imagine khorkina on the old bars!!

  • I feel the same way, damn she would have killed them all with her long legs. ha!

  • I wonder how these gymnasts would stand up to todays standards.. I know the '76 floor routines a lot of the girls' hardest toubling pass was just a layout, which is only level 7 approximately. But they just weren't exposed to anything more difficult.

  • They didnt have the same equipment. They would have easily surpassed a level 7. The floor had no spring whatsoever. The vault was completely different in the fact that you were expected to show as much pre flight as post flight. That makes a yurchenko impossible. They trained on freaking wrestling mats, the beam was a solid plank of wood, and landing surfaces were as hard as a carpeted basement.

  • I know, things were totally different.. you raly can't compare. I have to train on westling mats on my high school team. We can't afford a spring floor. I can brey do a layout. And I have no doubt that they could pass level 7... by a mile.

  • It covers the years 1956 to 1992

  • It is very good-what year about is this meant to be in? btw i meant to rate it 4 stars but i clicked 3 by accident! :D
