it makes me sad that even though this was over 60 years ago, we would kill innocent people, men, women, and children, and not a single soul in America gives a damn. for those that care, we shouldn't let something like this happen again and bring peace to all. for those that don't care...... burn in hell
Thank you for both your arguments. While I did not learn anything new, It has always been fascinating to hear clear, well thought out, subjective opinions. One problem though, wrong place. I would like to see the continuation of the debate, elsewhere. For the last week i have been reading the comments on a lot of the dir en gray vid's, Its amazing how one group of people (diru) can bring out so much hostility to one another.
You all overplay 9-11, it wasn't that big a deal. I would never deny that we have troops in Afghanistan, I never said I supported Canada's troops either, the entire thing is stupid. The Japanese had the right to attack Pearl Harbour, and I'm not saying that the U.S shouldn't have had some kind of retributive justice... But to drop a nuke on them? That's overdoing it. Almost any non-American historian will testify to the fact that the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing was a plot to scare Russia.
@arikoyamato Loss of hundreds of lives on 9/11 is not a big deal? Are you that dense? Japan was literally attacking neighboring islands in attempts to gather natural resources and they literally had no right to attack Pearl Harbor. If the United States didn't drop the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there would have been more casualties on both sides if the war continued past the point. And you complain about the United States overdoing it when you wish the same actions to the U.S.?
@arikoyamato But really, quit using strawman arguments. It's bad enough that I actually responded to those in the first place. Keep in mind that people of all nationalities were within the World Trade Centers when they were struck down that morning. You can't pick and choose what loss of life you can mourn, especially en mass regardless if it was a cowardly attack (9/11) or a retaliatory attack (Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Pearl Harbor, etc.) A loss of human life is always a tragedy regardless.
@DoctorCrube This is only true if your view of human life other than your own is high. 9/11 was not a cowardly attack btw. It was a carefully plotted act that, as it had, worked marvelously. It scared the crap out of the people it was meant to... I cannot say that it served its purpose, but I can say that it was a well executed plot. It would have only been better had the fourth plane hit the White
@arikoyamato Outside the Pentagon and White House, how was attacking a non-military target such as the World Trades Centers not a cowardly attack? Regardless if it was masterfully crafted or not? Now, here's the part where you might try and turn the tables on me by saying that the bombings of the three Japanese cities are "cowardly," but here's the major difference: it was during a time of war. The attacks on American soil were cowardly attacks.
@arikoyamato The difference between Pearl Harbor and 9/11 is usage of civilian commercial airline jets. Using something like that as a weapon was never considered by Al-Qaida before. The passengers on the flight that fell to Earth was adverted because the passengers found out from the previous crashes via cellular communication and thus risked their own lives to prevent whatever target they had in mind. It could have been Congress or the White House.
@AarinHikaKao yo're absolutely right... This fight is pointless, I hate reading fights while watching a video... let's stop this now, we won't convince each other, there is no clear objective to or fight. I'll apologize for making such a deal out of it.
Thank you, Dir en grey, for exposing the harshness of reality in your music. "No one wants to talk about the truth that hurts the ear ,The suppressed minds". The truth is war happens. The other truth, we can learn to move on from these terrible things and fix what generations before us have not managed to do. Most countries participating in WWII did something wrong. All we can do is learn from their mistakes and try not to repeat them.
Even though Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and the fire bombings of Tokyo were awful; you have to remember that it was an act of revenge. After all, Japan was the first ones who attacked at Pearl Harbor. And if you don't know anything about history, look up the Rape of Nanking and Unit 731: atrocities that the Japanese Empire have done upon innocent Chinese.
@DoctorCrube 'tis been proven wrong. Japan was under the impressiont hat wthey were under attack just before they decided to retaliate. I'm not taking Japans side... because they did some nasty stuff before and during WWII.... But if you're goign to say things, know the true facts.
@arikoyamato What's been proven wrong? The fact that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, regardless of what triggered it? The point I was trying to make is that there are no real winners in war. Plus, I would love to know your sources.
@arikoyamato And if you're trying to refer to the cutting of the natural resources, that was a retaliation to the fact that the Japanese Empire allied themselves with Nazi Germany. But other than that... give me some sources.
@DoctorCrube Yes that is what I'm referring to, thank you for elaborating. Pearl Harbour was nothing really..... I'm sure the U.S doesn't beleive they should be nuked for what they've done in Afghanistan, now do they? The U.S. really should be nuked though........ I know it would affect me here in Canada... but they need something to let them know they aren't all that.
@arikoyamato Sinking more or less the entire Pacific fleet is NOT NOTHING. Militarily, it's a larger victory over the nuclear bomb drops and the fire bombing. Plus, you're aware that there are at least upward to three thousand Canadian troops stationed in Afghanistan. (Even though it's a margin, you still can't deny their presence in the conflict.)
@arikoyamato And I am sure the attacks on American soil played a major part in why we are over there. Where am I getting this information? Well, there's this small program on the television called the news.
what we americans did that day was foolish, wreckless and by far one of the biggest atrocities we ever commited. nothing can change the sins of the past...however the past should remain where it is, remembered but not forgotten. all we can do now is head tomorrow and hopefully forge a brighter future for all without all this senseless violence
HELP! I hope to go to a Dir en Grey concert in the US one day. Problem is my friends aren't fans and they like Rap and/or soft rock. How can I find someone comfortable to go with me. I don't want to go alone.
@BlazedAsian you just can go all alone - no worries, you will meet and make some new friends there along the way - most of DEG fans might be quite douche-y and tardy nowadays but some are very friendly, compared to your everyday metalheads...
I've studied quite a bit about WWII, and in regards to the bombings, I think it was both merciful and terrible. The Japanese government and military was so proud and believed that their souls would stay to protect Japan after a noble death, so their surrender was near impossible. The Allies knew continuing the war would lead to more casualties and almost a complete destruction of Japan, but they didn't want to destroy Japan. Thus, the bombs were chosen. It's a such tragedy, but I understand why.
@siriusql Hmm, I haven't heard about the submission letter, but if that is true then it could change my mind. But the bombs did stop the war, which, if you take out all other negative connotations, was a plus. We will never know if the war and other civilian lives could have been saved in a better manner. It's the past, and at least the countries are now at terms of peace. And on a different note, I think this song very accurately portrays the sadness.
@jibber102 We we'll never know if the letter is true, I can't even find the site again -___- (but i'll do !)
I'll never, never, accept that, you cannont say that in ANYWAY it was 'a plus' seriously, you don't end a war killin thousands people and saying "it was in order not to kill too many people"
Plus, why TWO bombs ? have you ever thought of it ? One would have been enough, this doesn't make sense, at all, you have to be an american soldier to believe such bullshit. Please open your eyes,
@jibber102 America at that time just wanted to end the war to keep THEIR soldiers alive, they nuked japan just to make the big show so that USSR wouldn't open her mouth too big. Those nuke bombing just lead us toward the cold war. Without hiroshima and nagasaki, maybe USSR would have nuked America, and we would all be sleeping in peace now... and Japan would be the leader with china, we would'nt have a sub-culture that means nothing. Even thought Japan did some bad things too, there is no reason
War is fucked up. And all that "they started" and "they did" crap dosn't matter! Grown ups teach children not to figth, and hit each other. Well who'd they learn it from?
This song is great, by the way. I've been a fan for a long time, and I love how they don't just stick to the old, but they try new styles. This is amazing.
@gxrcix525 Japan hadn't even declared war on the united states until two hours after the bombings. We had no warning or formal declaration and we even made it abundantly clear to the world that we were neutral and wanted to stay out of the war.

So now was the dropping of the bombs justified? I don't believe so, however the alternative was a land invasion which (cont.)
whoah... now im proud that im from Poland, not from USA. I can with clean conscience live in Japan in the future. I think , that only Japanese people can imagine pain and suffering due to americans no mercy. I consider too, that Japan remember...Sorry for mistakes, but my english teacher is idiot :) Greetings from Poland to very beautiful Japan :)
@martinikei Your history teacher is an idiot as well. The japanese shown so little mercy to the american POW's.also not to mention the USA warned the japanese that unforeseen devastation will occur if they didn't back out of the war. After the first bombings the USA asked japan to surrender and they didn't so they droped the second bomb.
This song is not just Hiroshima and the bombs. It's positing and questioning the idea that Japan's previous war crimes with China and blind dedication to Japanese Imperialism where the cause of an overly aggressive war. Okay. I'm going to have to ask both of you to please stop throwing slurs around. If you both want to continue arguing, please do it elsewhere. Thank you.

@GuitarNiimura Also Pearl Harbor and everyone else who died in WWII like about 30 Million other people.
gomezf87 11 months ago
@gomezf87 uhm, maybe u should take in twice the amount of 30 + a couple of millions more, so that u get the right number of killed people in ww2?
it died more than 30 million just in Asia/the pacific alone x((((((( ... then u need the numbers from Europe, Africa etc too...
