  • I'm so proud of this brother. He is a composer and educator too. He seems like a gracious person too . The world needs many more like him . It was so refreshing to see Simmons playing Skryabin & Barber ! I hope he writes more music for our generation .Put it all in there from Perotin ,Ades, Ellington to Schoenberg ! Wow , concert programmes desperately need new music and new audiences.People should not be afraid . A great bunch of mavericks bringing new strategies and sounds..

  • so cool. :) I worked with him before on another piece he wrote in my youth orchestra and that was just amazing and tons of fun.

  • The Violin of course is only wooden, but his mic is hooked up to an FX pedal. Atleast, the sound changes when he looks down moves his foot.

  • there is nothing like being able to witness this live. i've met him, listened to him play this, experienced his greatness and of course asked for his autograph. he played with the Louisville Orchestra and did a special befoe show performance with all of the high school students. he is amazing and what he can do all on a WOODEN violin (no electricity involved) is quite a marvel.

  • is the sound dbr even possible on a violin? is he playing a electric one??? :O

  • playing close to the bridge produces crazzyy sounds kekeke.

he has pedals too i think.

he performed with the high school orchestra i'm in not too long ago.

  • absolutely amazing

he performed at my school on thursday and it brought up my whole day, i was awed and still am

it has inspired me to persue my musical career even more

  • go cuzzo!!!

  • Yah, how can we view the entire concert?? I saw you when you came to Louisville!! I'm still awed!! I love all your music!!!

  • Awesome! You are a great teacher!

Thank you for doing what you do!

    Esme West (from GBYO)

  • check out this :islefan2's Channel and see him in high school bands... too cool...

  • Only Haitian fully mastered the Violin .

  • Is this DBR playing?

  • ahh i absolutely love this piece! :]

we are playing it now at our high school and hes coming to perform it with us in 2 weeks! :]

  • I love this piece! Totally awesome!

  • awesome :)

  • thats pretty origanal

  • How can I view the entire concert...Not edited like this?

    Thanks.

  • Looks pretty sweet.

  • so priud of you

  • you can just imagine him going to see his classical violin teacher as a kid and being like: "listen to this!"

  • I went to elem school with him, and we all played violin in Mr. Miller's class.. they were called the Margate Strings .this is awesome...

  • incredible!

  • bella cagata di roba

  • I wish i could get a recording of this!

    :(

  • First time I've seen this! This is amazing! I wish I would've been at this concert!!! I have DBR's album "etude4violin&electronix" it's outstanding work, along with the compilation with the Lark Quartet

  • i mean, this is kinda cool, but it's just a violin ran through a fx loop- maybe i just had to have been there

  • I had the pleasure of being in attendence of this concert. It was 10 times better in person. The crowd wouldn't stop cheering until he came back out and did a solo. It was absolutly crazy. I bought the album the day after. I wish that this wasn't spliced but rather the whole performance, would have liked to hear the whole thing again.

  • whoa......... this is totaly different... 8 thumbs up

  • I like the trading. The drummer's groove is a little timid, but he's doing good for a young orchestral percussionist from Vermont. Good on DBR for bringing black music into the concert hall. I think orchestral players that can swing are going to play everything better, and have more fun, too. Killer ending.

  • Dr. Roumain. Great Work

  • i'm the vibraphonist :)

  • omg! crazy

  • I've met him before and actually jammed with him on my violin. Improv and stuff... It was really, really cool!

  • awesome - cutting edge. i am a fan.

  • Mr. Roumain, has a new fan in his club. Even thinking of traveling to one of his live performances.

  • awesome

  • wow, I hadn't heard something like this before.

  • This one does not suit this guy. His other ones, in a rock concert/DJ setting, are great. It needs more rock, less classical!

  • the whole point of this piece was to show that classical musicians don't have to be all rigid and "stuck up" and whatever. a lot of what dbr played was obviously improvised, and so were those student solos, which you NEVER see in classical music. i do wish they had shown the whole piece, though.

  • I have a certain respect for this piece as it sounds very modern in the use of electronics with the solo violin and it's nod toward modern genres. But, I can't help but feel I've heard it all before in one form or another and doesn't seem to hold much exitement in the piece. This is only my opinion of course.

  • wow, being a violinist this seems like it would be fun to play around with... but personally not for a performance. sorry

  • @hfls1122 - You've never had the opportunity to be at one of his concerts.

  • Oh dear, this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! SO awesome. Hah, being a trumpet, piano, flute, sax, and guitar player just getting into violin, this makes me want to practice even more!

  • we were shouting "come on, come on" but it doesn't really sound like it haha

  • what are they shouting at the end?

  • hey who posted this? I played this concert - it was so much better live! can you post the prayer section of this concerto? that was my favorite part.

  • the beginning was soooo cool

  • That is cool

  • I know someone in this!

  • Hell Yes!

  • that was such an amazing day

  • I was in the VYO last year. Sadly I missed this performance as a result of college but I ordered the DVD and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The VYO has always brought in amazing talents to share their music with us. Thanks!

  • wut is VYO???

  • Vermont Youth Orchestra -- that's the group playing with DBR in this video.

  • a youth orchestra in vermont you idiot

  • meh it sounded better in person...

  • Absoluty amazing. Wish I could do that.

  • Haha i was there. I got free tickets cuz im in the vyo (not in the vyo that played with him tho. Next year i will be) :P

  • Daniel, thanks for giving us such an amazing performance! We miss you here in Vermont. Come back soon... -Caroline
