I'm so proud of this brother. He is a composer and educator too. He seems like a gracious person too . The world needs many more like him . It was so refreshing to see Simmons playing Skryabin & Barber ! I hope he writes more music for our generation .Put it all in there from Perotin ,Ades, Ellington to Schoenberg ! Wow , concert programmes desperately need new music and new audiences.People should not be afraid . A great bunch of mavericks bringing new strategies and sounds..
there is nothing like being able to witness this live. i've met him, listened to him play this, experienced his greatness and of course asked for his autograph. he played with the Louisville Orchestra and did a special befoe show performance with all of the high school students. he is amazing and what he can do all on a WOODEN violin (no electricity involved) is quite a marvel.
First time I've seen this! This is amazing! I wish I would've been at this concert!!! I have DBR's album "etude4violin&electronix" it's outstanding work, along with the compilation with the Lark Quartet
I had the pleasure of being in attendence of this concert. It was 10 times better in person. The crowd wouldn't stop cheering until he came back out and did a solo. It was absolutly crazy. I bought the album the day after. I wish that this wasn't spliced but rather the whole performance, would have liked to hear the whole thing again.
I like the trading. The drummer's groove is a little timid, but he's doing good for a young orchestral percussionist from Vermont. Good on DBR for bringing black music into the concert hall. I think orchestral players that can swing are going to play everything better, and have more fun, too. Killer ending.
the whole point of this piece was to show that classical musicians don't have to be all rigid and "stuck up" and whatever. a lot of what dbr played was obviously improvised, and so were those student solos, which you NEVER see in classical music. i do wish they had shown the whole piece, though.
I have a certain respect for this piece as it sounds very modern in the use of electronics with the solo violin and it's nod toward modern genres. But, I can't help but feel I've heard it all before in one form or another and doesn't seem to hold much exitement in the piece. This is only my opinion of course.
Oh dear, this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! SO awesome. Hah, being a trumpet, piano, flute, sax, and guitar player just getting into violin, this makes me want to practice even more!

The Violin of course is only wooden, but his mic is hooked up to an FX pedal. Atleast, the sound changes when he looks down moves his foot.

This one does not suit this guy. His other ones, in a rock concert/DJ setting, are great. It needs more rock, less classical!
