  • Any one know what key whistle John is playin is it Eb or E just curious????.Glenn Pall in New York

  • @GPALL52 Yep, it's Eb

  • First reel title is "The Wise Maid"

  • wow wow wow wow wow and wowwwwww

  • lmao, isnt he great for his age, the dubliners were great craic as well.

  • i love the wise maid its a cool reel sound better on whistle than flute depens on the tune

  • @synthpathetic Sounds like he just did a simple trill on that F#. When I play this reel on whistle I do the same ornament.

  • I have watched this like 11232 times in the last week it's outstanding! Love the first reel especially

  • @synthpathetic Why? Will it ruin your impression of the performance, if someone dislikes it?

  • My favourite Dubliners album has always been "Live at Montreux" from 1976. John plays the same selection as here. Never thought I'd see actual footage from that time.

  • Absolutely Fantastic !!

  • Down the broom??? Sounds to me more like Congress reel... maybe tunes with the same name ;)

  • epic

  • It's actually "The Wise Maid," Down the Broom," and then the "Honey Moon Reel". "Dohertys reel is a totally different melody.

  • Great whistling and especially Jim's guitar accompainment is superb :-)

  • The first one is "The Wise Maid", come on now.

  • damn john!as long as i knew this guy i have never seen him play that thing before.fiddle is a different story but that is amazing.

  • Great!

    Thanks for posting!

  • The first reel is called The Wise Maid.

  • It's Doherty's Reel, I have this selection also on a record, John Sheahan is not playing here the Wise Maid.

  • I'm not trying to have an agument, but I have learned that song from sheet music and not just from the one source and all of them are entitled The Wise Maid. Of course a lot of them being traditional pieces could have their names changed down the years. It's quite possible it could have once been Doherty's Reel, then The Wise Maid or vice versa.

  • It is the wise maid, also known as cooleys. However its not uncommon for tunes to be known by different names

  • Thank You!

  • Sorry, I have this selection of reels also on a record and the real title is doherty's reel, maybe the wise maid, looks almost the same, but it isn't it.

  • It's the same tune. It's normally known as the Wise Maid but The Dubliners' label it on their albums as Doherty's. So you're all right

  • Superb

  • this is so excellent.

    Thanks for posting

  • @jeroendevries the Honeymoon reel sounds a bit like the song Tim Maloney

  • @jeroendevries Wrong, the first one is the wise maid and the second one is the the bird in the bush. look it up.
