This is lovely. I am actually looking for the soundtrack that starts off with. "This is Lowell Thomas with the music from my new cineramic production "The Seven Wonders of the World" Does anyone know of this record. It was an LP. Much appreciated.
Glad you enjoyed. I'm not sure if it's the same recording, but I have a vintage LP with a kind of "big band" arrangement of the theme, and it starts with Lowell Thomas' announcement. I used that cut, along with an additional source, as a lead sheet in preparing the version heard in the video, which is truer to the symphonic sound from the original score than what's on the vintage LP (Coral label - if memory serves).
The Main Theme composed by Emil Newman was, in fact, co-composed by his brother, Lionel Newman, according to the cue sheets on record. Emil conducted all of the music in this film, which was composed by Sol Kaplan, Jerome Moross and David Raksin, in addition to Emil and Lionel.
@jslasher1 Sorry for the delayed response - just catching up on some comments. While I was putting the video together I found a web site offering a vintage sheet music arrangement of the theme that credited Lionel along with Emil, but it wasn't clear whether as co-composer or only as arranger.
Thanks for the confirmation. Not surprising since Lionel was a gifted writer. I do have a vintage copy of the "Adventures in Paradise" tv theme he composed around the same time attesting to that.
Actually, although the Main Theme is credited to Emil Newman on the 'cue sheets' for the film, it was co-composed by his brother, Lionel Newman. Emil conducted all the music, which was also composed by Sol Kaplan, Jerome Moross [famous as the composer of "The Big Country"], and David Raksin.
@jslasher1 I understand that Sol Kaplan's contribution was originally uncredited for whatever reason at the time. And although the score didn't ultimately receive an Academy Award nomination, it was on the short list of ten that year. So it was appreciated, even if it was unclear who all was responsible for it.
@AdolfoHaggen Forgive the belated reply. So glad you enjoyed it. Like you, I saw "7 Wonders" when I was a kid, and would love to be able to see it again. So naturally I really appreciated your "This Is Cinerama" videos. Many thanks to you.
