What's worse, is I have the 64 bit version of Windows 7. There's very little call for modding drivers on that OS...

The performance boost on games that support 64 bit is well worth it though.

I think the Windows 7 specific drivers are only for the Netbooks. The only ones that work on my laptop are the Vista drivers.

And they're pretty dated now. Haven't really noticed much of a performance boost, if any, from the official Dell drivers. (As the Dell builds require a custom build from their site.)

@Letgoit Upgrade to vista, then you'll gain so much more memory. When I downgraded to Xp my Vram dropped from 224 to to 128. Now I'm running on vista and I used this tutorial I got a video memory of 256 Mb. Totally worth it. I was running a Gamecube emulator before and it was so slow , now it runs as smooth as a real gamecube!!! Time for some Resident Evil!!!!!

@josepippo Thank you very much. This works on my sony vgn fe880e laptop. Originally it was running on a Intel mobile r 945 gm , now its on an Intel 965. I followed the instructions just as the video said, I uninstalled my old drivers, and modified the new ones but one thing worth mentioning is that the screen blacked out as it was installing. I made sure to hit enter so it would finish reinstalling and restart. And it did. Now I'm playing gamecube games that i couldnt b4! Thanks DJdorit and Jose

@josepippo Thx for the tip I will try it. I have a question. I'm trying to run the Dolphin emulator on my Intel 945 Gm. I've tried the driver in this vid as well as the ones on Modded Drivers 9xx Soldiers webpage. Although it  starts the game after a while it says "Error compiling pixel shader" and freezes. The Intel 945 Compatibility List says Dolphin is compatible. So does it need the 3D analyze prog? or SwiftShader. If I get it to work I'll post my vid up . Thanks for getting back to me

Hmmm are you using xp or vista ? if you are using either one you have to make sure you are using the correct os ( have xp download xp drivers vice versa for vista) have you modded it correctly ? in the error box did it say "your system dunt meet the correct requirements, then it force exits the installer ? if so you have modded it incorrectly or the driver you are trying to install is not for that video chip. hope this helps :)

im not gay but i fucking love you, before i tried this i ran my laptop through 3dmark n i was getting an average of 15-25 fps now i have around the 70-80 mark :) btw if you try this, when you reboot the computer the screen goes blue but dont worry because it will change back to ure normal screen after bout 15 seconds :)

odd. if your using OEM drivers (your computers manufactures drivers) you may need to use intels drivers. they r kinda of tricky to get installed if your using ur OEM's drivers tho. You have to load them through device manager. thats what I had to do with my dell dimension e310. I just wanted the newest drivers thats why I did that. idk if the OEM's drivers would have played the sims 3 or not.

To everyone having problems:

You need to make sure that not only do you uninstall your old drivers, but also that you RESTART after the uninstall. That worked for me.

Also, this is a godsend, man! The 945 has an incompatibility with Source games, but with this, I can run 'em in DX8! FINALLY, TF2 is playable on my laptop! Thanks a million!

Both yes and no. You may have to tweak it a little, and it's not going to look nice. But you can certainly make it playable.

why do i keep on getting a blue screen every time i try to run cs source? it used to work with the modded drivers with 30 or so fps highest settings. after 2 bsods, i uninstalled the mod, cs worked but lagged terribly.

The BSoD is a known bug with the mod. It comes sometimes when you're trying to play games, that normally won't work properly on the card. I've had the BSoD many times, especially when starting source games. But, dont worry, it dosen't hurt the computer.

A good tip, to reduce the error, is to raise the page-file.
