  • thank you for the advise

  • I have an old male labrador... i trained him and he thinks of me as the head of the pack. Will it be a good idea to bring a 2 month old female akita to my home?

  • I have two akitas(one pure Japanese, and one pure American). They're both about 6 years old and are great around people, but become very aggressive around other dogs. I've taught them to sit and stay when other dogs approach them, but know that if i let them they would easily kill another dog.(one already has) Any tips? and are they too old to get that behavior out of them?

  • I had a bad time with my akita mix at the start when I adopted her because the people before hadn't done any training (leash or otherwise) with her at 6 months old. She's now 9 years old and I love her but if you don't start training early it is VERY hard to break them of certain habits.

  • @TaintedWitch666 lol chihuahuas are crazy

  • the only thing i trained my 2 akitas to do was not bite people in high vis jackets to eat drink and go in the kennel when their told thats all i really needed from them if i am their they will not attack any one unless they know i am in danger and i got saber when he was 5 and clio when she was 8 and both have being nothing but nice dogs but if u ask the previous owner they are aggressive dangerous and need putting down

  • we have one and is our first...best choice we made......but these are more than just dogs !

  • Training? what training? my Akita pup seems to know what I want before I even know what I want, lol. I agree that very early training and socializing is key to having a great dog versus a good dog.... My Akita hates repetition of any training cue, so we do frequent little school classes, so so smart!

  • I learned not to understimate my akita puppy. I have raised a couple of bernies and a mali which led me to believe I could easily handle training an akita. Wrong. There is a huge difference between herders and guard dogs.

You can say its just me then, but I believe you need to be a pretty stern and experienced handler to properly raise one. I am workin on crate training now, his leash training has been rough, and his socialization I have to be on top of at all times.

  • @darknightrei Sometimes I think my dogs are too friendly since they have been socialized so well. I know someone is near my yard the second my dogs start to bark. Akitas are not a vocal breed when they don't have reason (but mine love to "talk" when they're playing). When they bark, I pay attention. A firm "Stop barking!" usually stops them when I notice the "intruders". I feel very secure that my dogs will let me know when strangers are afoot.

  • The reason for early socialization is so they will act civil towards other dogs.As far as human socialization is concerned, they are OK with strangers although guarded.

Great Breed but you must have skills because an Akita will do what an Akita want's to do.

  • Anyone who say's that a non experienced canine owner should get an akita is just plain dumb and does not know anything about dog breeds.I have been a dog owner for the past 37 years and both of my Akita's have tested my skills.Once you have mastered the Akita you are rewarded with IMHO one of the best breeds on earth.

  • Check my Akitas on my page

  • @darknightrei: I own several. The Akita is an ancient breed and the national dog of Japan. Centuries ago they were used to tree bears for hunters. They DON'T need to be trained to be aggressive -- and should NEVER be treated aggressively. They will protect their pack (family) without question. You must be kind, patient, and socialize, socialize, socialize so they are friendly with all -- especially kids and other pets. In Japan, they're used as babysitters for their human family's kids. True.

  • I am thinking about getting an Akita. I am trying to learn more about the breed from owners. People are emphasizing how important socializing the dog is. If I make sure to socialize it as much as possible, with friends, family, other dogs etc, will it still be a good guard dog/ defend my property? What do you think owners of Akitas?

  • U must brush them more often then they don't shed so much

  • I love akitas but they shed way too much.

  • my speakers dont work so i dident get anything

  • While Labradors are my fave breed, Akitas are also one of the best.

  • Yes Christopher I agree Akitas r just simply the most wonderful dogs I would never have any other breed of dog

  • Should do like Any good dog owner but I've also worked in Akita rescue shelters where bad owners have not , through lack of knowledge of this wonderful breed of dog. We all learn through. Knowledge if people do this and I'm still open to learning there will b far less Akitas in shelters today like all poor dogs, so for the sake of ALL animals having experience and good solid knowledge is a good thing

  • Yes I agree any dog big small can do lot's of damage buts it's never the small dog u hear of only the big one's. I also think ands it's my view there r no bad dogs only bad owners in all breed,s of dog. Pitbull's like akita's in the wrong hands can b lethal we all know what these dogs r capable of if u put them in the wrong situation, my American akita diesle is 14 months old is already 28 INS high and weigh's 65kgs he is a pussy cat with a temperament to match ONLY because I've done what i

  • Akita inu r smaller then American Akitas smaller frame and smaller heads and they weigh less anybody can own a dog that's easy but just look how many Akitas r abandon every year that's because they don't understand the breed and when things start 2 go wrong and u have a 65kg dog that's out of control and u don't give this breed of dog what it needs then u r in trouble so yes u do need to b experienced and not a novice

  • @horserider1958 as are pit bull terriers smaller but they still can do the same amount of damage. i dont believe its the size that matters, i believe its how you train and control your dog. The lady i got my pup off got a big american akita male for her very first dog and she had no problems with him. i completely agree people need to research and look into EVERY dog they are thinking of getting. a jack russell can do some serious damage just as an akita can.

  • @horserider1958 tataly agree with that.and the american type was bread for diffrent reasons(fighting)so they can be a bit more to handle but still a wonderful dog.

  • I have a 15 week old Akita Inu and he is my first dog. I dont think you need to be experienced as such, but you need a lot of dedication. Akitas are not very "dog like" they are very individual in their nature, behavior and personality. They are unbelievably loyal, intellegent and protective. My boy is as sweet as pie and as good as gold. Socialisation is important but I have had no problems so far when out on walks with other dogs or people.behavior wise, you get back what you put in

  • @emz0988 Mines 7 months and is abnormaly big. lol. I agree with you. Just dont let up you do something more than once activity wise that the dog likes it will catch on and expect you to do it agian. My dog waits for me everyday at 6 a.m. till i decide to leave than barks when he sees me. It was a pain at first but i wake up early easier now. lol.

  • @blackdragonx715 same! my dog is sooo much larger than his litter mates and the vet said hes the biggest he has ever seen!! glad to see someone else agrees with me!:-) I come home everyday to a little curly wagging tail waiting for me without fail!and he ALWAYS is waiting at the door at 8.30 waiting for breakfast too haha

  • @emz0988 Hahaha. I see looks like im not alone on this. LOL.

  • The Akita was also one of the very first companion dogs, and it formed lifelong bonds with their masters. In One instance in 1925 Hachiko (Akita) walked it's master to work every day for 2 years at the train station where he left for work and was waiting for him when he got off the train. His loyalty was so profound that he waited 9 years, every single day for the return of his deceased master at the train station.

Watch the movie Hachi: a dog's tale, for the modern retelling...

  • To all u people out there that think they can just a an Akita and it will b like having just another dog ( think again) it us not!!!. I have had large breed dogs all my life bit I decided to get an Akita, I read 4 book's on the breed and also went to dog shows that were showing Akitas , so u could say I done my home work. I went and got my first akita from a very well known dog breeder with papers 4 he's eye's and hip score but I can tell u now this breed of dog is not!!!! 4 everyone even if u

  • Hey can you provent the agresiveness in the akita??? couse i would want one!

  • Hi, Im 12 years old and i getting an Akita soon :) . I want to train it so that it would listen to ME. lets say it starts attacking a person or animal or something how can i make sure it stops when i tell it to stop?

and i love your videos :)

  • Sumo runs away when people come over. :<

  • being responsible owner is # 1. In East Oakland Akitas are known as pit bull neutralizers. no one should know should raise dogs to fight.

  • i did all the right thinsg for my akita (khan) he got all the proper training and loving he was a huge part of the family khan lived to be 14 years and had 12 puppies (mated) all girls he was the best dog that ever lived he is miss dearly .tears

  • training an akita is not like training any other dog, they're unlike any other breed because they're so independent. it does take an experienced owner and you have to start from day with obedience, they can be extremely thick headed you have to know what you are doing otherwise you'll end up with a dangerous animal. Akitas are not for everyone! but in the right hands they are the best pets! anything else is just a dog.

  • we just got a 18mnth akita from a rescue centre a couple days ago, he is such a lovely dog and we are on a month trial with him just now as he a bit strong willed and strong on the lead. How can we get him to stop pulling? we got him a harness, but would love some tips from you.He also can't walk past other dogs with out barking and jumping and pulling trying to get to them, the rescue ladie said he neutering him may help.I'm also terrified to let him off the lead to try and train him to come bck

  • @vashy, we put our akita through puppy school when he was very young and the best thing they tought us was to teach him how to walk on a lead with a pinch collar, they're not cruel, and used properly will help keep your akita by your side instead of out infront of you ripping your shoulder off. it's kinda like power steering once you establish the pinch collar, after a while you won't even need to use it!

  • you helped me alot.. thank you. i wish you wud get some reward for you work! : )

  • they are amazing dogs. very beautiful

  • According to Nat Geo, the Akita is one of the most primitive dog breeds in existence. As in, they are not as far removed from their wolf ancestors as other breeds. This is why you may notice that minimally trained Akitas can act VERY aloof and the importance of early training of this breed cannot be stressed enough. Beautiful, yes, but because of this dogs closeness to the wild, you must be an experienced dog owner before considering bringing an Akita into your life.

  • hey but dont tell people that you need to be an experienced dog owner before having an akita.. anyone can enjoy an akita the only thing you should check before dog raising experience, is to see check yourself if you have it in you to be more patient then you'v ever been..and realize that your bringing like a kid into your life..people dont learn baby experience before they get pregnant , they learn as they go but how much effort you put in to them lies on how good they behave as they grow.

  • @samstterhamstteer Yup, my bro bought a 2 yr old Akita, never had a dog before, and he wasn't very well trained/socialised and he's just fine. Sorta.. n.n'"

  • @samstterhamstteer, HI, AS A DOG TRAINER (FORMORE THAN 20 YEARS) I AGREE WITH THE AUTHOR WHEN HE SAYS THAT YOU NEED TO BE A LITTLE BIT MOR EXPERIENCED OR AT LEAST MORE INFORMED IF YOU WANT AN AKITA, IT IS A BEAUTYFULL BREED BUT NEEDS EXPERIENCED HANDS TO BECOME THE PERFECT PET. AND THAT GOES FOR SOME OTHER BREEDS TOO. I´D ADD READ END GET ALL INFORMATION YOU CAN BEFORE BUYING ANY BREED OF DOG AND YOU WILL ENJOY IT MORE!

  • @eleberth i dont care if you lived in a cave with dogs for 40 years , anyone can own an akita if they really wish to have one, anyone can learn if they put enough effort in it

  • @samstterhamstteer HI THERE, YOUR COMMENT IS MORE THAN FUNNY, IF YOU JUST PAY ATTENTION TO MY COMMENT I SAID, ¨I´D ADD READ END GET ALL INFORMATION YOU CAN BEFORE BUYING ANY BREED OF DOG AND YOU WILL ENJOY IT MORE!¨ BUT TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU´D NEED TO OPEN YOUR LITTLE BRAIN AND UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE NOT BEING ATTACKED BY ANYONE TALKING ABOUT AKITA; AND YOU GIVE ME REASON WHEN YOU SAY

¨anyone can learn if they put enough effort in it ¨ YOUR OWN WORDS MAN, HAVE A NICE LIFE!

  • @eleberth such an angry person, i feel srry for your dog

  • @samstterhamstteer LOL ANGRY? I DID NOT THINK YOU WERE SO SENSITIVE, AND DON´T BE SORRY FOR MY DOG, HE IS A VERY HAPPY, PLAYFUL AND BALANCED PROTECTION DOG THAT OBEYS COMMANDS FROM MY 3 YR OLD GIRL, BE WELL! AND KEEP LOVING AKITAS, SUCH A BEAUTIFUL BREED, I NEVER SAID IT WASN´T. AND BE WELL!

  • @samstterhamstteer

Hello, i am getting an Akita, never owned a dog before and ive heard a lot of stuff on and off about the breed. I just want to say that i really agree what youve written here, very intelligent way to put it and its totally my opinion aswell.

    Do you have any dogs?

Have a nice day! / Maria

  • @TislaVelu yes i have 2 dogs they are on my videos, and thank you

  • @samstterhamstteer True! my first dog was an akita. Also 2nd and 3rd! They should be socialized like crazy though.

  • @ugmidnight12 yes sir

  • @samstterhamstteer Good point dickhead, how many ruined shitty kids are out there in the world you fool.

  • Comment removed

  • @skinnydogkew and what is your point, im not saying just because a parent was bad a kid turns out bad cause the media and many other things are making kids bad these days cause they think its cool to be like that and talk a certain way. One of them being you you feel great after talking that way dont you and feel proud of it , your a loser

  • @samstterhamstteer No not at all actually, i'm angry because you seem oblivious to the direct correlation of shitty parenting and shitty children. You are saying that because people can have kids without experience so therefore you can own a dog like an Akita without experience. Both of your points are wrong. The world we live in is testament to that. Shitty people everywhere, and out of control dogs with useless owners aswell. I should know I'm a dog trainer. (A real one)

  • @skinnydogkew Well im superman ,(the real one) anyone can say anything over the internet and what i said there's no false statement just cause your childish opinion and you living in fantasy island makes you think wtv you want to think doesnt make what others say not true, what i wrote was saying that ANYONE can have an akita doesnt matter who you are , if you want to continue telling people not to get an akita unless you are experienced then go ahead moron

  • @skinnydogkew and another thing, your comment shows me your no dog trainer , dog trainers are crazy patient if a comment like mine got you that angry then all the dogs you train must have gotten a good beating. Learn to control that anger you have cause you look like an idiot but wtv makes you happy mr im a real dog trainer lol take it easy buddy i have to go spread my arms and go fly next to planes

  • @samstterhamstteer Hahaha, I'm patient with dogs, because they deserve it. Not Studid humans who should know better.

If the state of humanity in this world doesn't make you angry you're a retard.

Plus you wouldn't know a dog trainer if you saw one buddy.

  • @skinnydogkew humans? what are you suppose to be, im not the retarted troll that goes around commenting and cursing people out on the internet cause of one comment that makes perfect sense, you can pretend to be a trainer or wtv makes you happy child but from what you wrote to me on your first comment shows a lot about you and maybe you should change if not be a retard all your life

  • @samstterhamstteer Don't know why its hard for you to understand.... but It is a perfectly viable statement for me to say that I exercise distinct differences in the way I train dogs for work and the way I treat people out of work hours. So if you interpret that my first comment indicated to you that I'm no dog trainer then you were unfortunately unable to comprehend my post. Haha and i'm the retard....

My experience as a trainer tells me from your comment you don't know anything on the subject

  • @skinnydogkew correction your experience as a want to be trainer, and your just a loser pretending to be someone your not and your full of anger and you say oh its towards humans lol you are a retard and what i said makes perfect sense im saying anyone can own an akita im raising my third allready and it listens to anything i say and gets along with anyone or any dog and i had no prior experience you can pretend to be anyone you want over the internet if it makes you happy . Retard

  • @samstterhamstteer So you've trained a few of dogs, big deal. That doesn't make you an authority... that makes you a bit of a natural and also, "experienced" (which totally contradicts what you said in your original post).

I am not pretending to be anything, you just hate being corrected so you are looking for a way to discredit me.

I have completed Cert III dog behaviour and training with the National Dog Trainers Federation in Australia and am currently working as a trainer and instructor.

  • @skinnydogkew yea and i completed flying with my arms out and defying gravity with a cape on, you see how easy it is to say anything over the internet, like i said continue pretending to be someone your not and control your anger cause with that attitude your going to be a lose like you are all your life, you said it pissed you off and this and that its one comment it takes alot for me to get angry yet alone a comment on youtube, i raised dogs and i didnt say i had authority you did grow up kido

  • @samstterhamstteer Your an absolute idiot, I'm not pretending to be anything.

What you said pissed me off because I'm passionate about dog training and I'm sick of seeing idiots get dogs that they cant handle without doing any research or formal training, (with a professional). Its all very nice that it takes you alot more than one comment to get angry but its hardly relevant to the point. If you aren't an authority then don't spout advice to the general population.

  • @skinnydogkew and know what if its your style to go on peoples videos and trying to argue with people that have thumbs up on their comments do your thing cause i never asked for any damn thumbs up i wrote what i thought and if what you do is sit there and argue and curse out dudes online you got some issues man, im going to block your dumbass so quit commenting me do it with someone else you seem to enjoy it , im still sticking to anyone can raise an akita not just you mr delusional dog traine

  • @samstterhamstteer No they cant.

  • @samstterhamstteer i disagree....i think someone should have some prior dog experience before getting an akita......if all u ever owned were cats getting an 130 pound akita probably isnt the smartest thing lol

  • @arniebarb123 disagree all you want and be one of those people who are afraid of doing anyyhing new in life because ''experts'' tell you you cant , and i dont understand your comment something about a cat

  • @samstterhamstteer if u cant understand my comment then u definitly shouldnt get an akita

  • @arniebarb123 its not that i dont understand your comment, im pointing out the fact that your afraid to tackle new things in life if you want to live like a pussy all your life and live like the majority of idiots out there then go ahead. And iv owned 2 already and the one on my profile is my 4th and my akita is an original one and my dog contradicts what every ''expert'' says about akitas my dog isnt territorial and gets along with other dogs like the lil one, be scared all your life

  • @samstterhamstteer maybe ur dog isnt territorial but akitas tend to be.......my point is people dont do any research before getting a dog an akita isnt the greatest first dog because they tend to be very stubborn an not the easiest dog to train im saying every expert is right but why are they called experts? cause their smarter then u and have more experience with animals and im sure u socialized ur dog pretty good if u didnt it would be completely different around dogs

  • @arniebarb123 well what my point is nobody needs anything before getting the dog they want, either its a damn chihuahua or an akita a dog is still an animal and we as humans should be smarter then a damn dog shouldnt we? if a person cant make an animal behave thats because they are stupid and you dont need to prior experience with a dog just do a little research and learn the basic know hows and show them enogh attention and any dog can be a good dog , and not just akitas any dog can be stubbor

  • @arniebarb123 That's like telling a first time mother that they can't have a child unless they've already reared one or a student fresh out of university that they need 8yrs hands on experience for a job. A potential dog owner should ask advice from experienced owners, do their research and prepare. That is the kind of beginner that deserves dog like an Akita... at least that's my 2cents. But in spite of what I said you are right, this isn't a dog for most beginners.

  • @samstterhamstteer Being an experienced owner is a good idea, bud, at least if you have an intact male akita. I also HIGHLY recommend working one on one with a personal trainer twice a month who specializes in dog behavior. An intact male, at least, is an AMAZING dog, but they are a high liability dog. Risks include harm to people, other dogs, and to your akita. Mine won't hurt other people and just wants to "chest up" to some dogs and play with most, but many want to start fights with him.

  • @samstterhamstteer In spring and summer, many people let their dogs wander their yards or they have the door cracked open for fresh air. In one week, we have been rushed by a little fluffy dog, a pit, a sharpei, and a dachsund. As harmless as the little ones seem, they run at your dog, get in it's face, and bark, snarl, challengin your dog to a fight, and really push your dogs patience. You have about 20-30 seconds before your dog looses it and grabs a hold of the little bugger and shakes it.

  • @samstterhamstteer Once your dog sets its teeth into another, even though the little harmless runt jumped in your dog's face off the owner's property while you are walking down the street, you are liable for your dog's reaction. The runt's owner is in trouble for letting the dog off property without a leash, but you are equally in trouble for the bite. The only mode of prevention is a Gentle Leader harness, a dog spray, and avoidance, unless you want to muzzle your akita.

  • @samstterhamstteer That's just one example. The reason mine is good with people is I spend 10hrs every day with him of which 3-4 are spent out amongst other people. If he were to have two experiences in which he as much as nipped someone and broke skin, I could get a court order to put him down. When might even mine nip? Say he got loose from the yard somehow (1 in 3 dogs do at least once). If a person gets between him and their dog in a scrap, well, even I have been bit and bit hard.

  • @samstterhamstteer you obviously have never owned an akita...they are extremely hard dogs to train and live with ESPECIALLY if you have never owned an akita before let alone just a regualr dog...to own an akita you have to be extremely vigilant and train them or they will dominate you......they are not a typical puppy dog so unless you've owned one i suggest you stop with your ignorant comments

  • @mirandamiranda3 of course its obvious that i havent even though i have dozens of videos on my page with my akita and pomeranian , and quit your crying because it was hard for you to raise your dog cause you have no common sense. Any dog can be hard to train iv seen badly trained dogs ranging from all types its just an animal like any other animal and me telling people that anyone can enjoy one without the fear of experience is not ignorant at all

  • @mirandamiranda3 And one more thing , '' be extremely vigilant and train them or they will dominate you?'' tell me what dog in this world would not do that if you dont watch them or train them. Iv seen women get punked by a half pound chihuahua before its an animal at the end of the day and we as humans should be smart enough to be able to train them dont you think? im wrong maybe your not

  • @samstterhamstteer LOL, Chihuahua are feisty! :) I think their cute and okay dogs for people who have alot of space, but have and always will have large dogs. My aunt gets pushes around by hers all the time, but she spoiled them so only she can fix the situation.

  • @TaintedWitch666 i take it ur not saved

  • @RachaelCheeseburger Damm i have four akitas and they are veeery not obedient, but smart like no other.. and the wolf thing: they do howl, they move like no other dogs and i read somewhere that you know an akita is hard to deal with when, after a bit old, you try and push him to walk backwards. Mine will jump, fall, go sideways or turn but no taking steps back. they're gorgeous and loving

  • @RachaelCheeseburger i think its important to have jobs for them to do as well, like things that take advantage of their hunting traits then they should be happy akitas

  • Proud Akita owner! I have a large 5 year old red brindle female named Chieba { sh-ee-ba } socializing is a definite must when it comes to them (right now shes cuddling her kittys) as far as them coming back when called I highly suggest some salmon or chicken as the treat it works magic! Little know shedding secret when you bathe your akita during molting process i suggest to use a force blow dryer while you use the conditioner repeat 2-3 times and your akita will not shed after the final drying

  • Akitas are very strong beautiful animals. My Akita does not like most strangers or other animals. He is well trained (see my vids)> I got him for protection (I live in Dallas, a high crime rate city). DO NOT get an Akita if you are weak physically and especially mentaly. Akitas need a Leader. If you dont lead, they will. This breed is not for all. Get a Golden Retiever if you want a dog that melts all over everyone...

  • Yea we have a 10yr old girl in WV, im in dallas also and want another one bad but most apts here wont let u have them, so im trying to figure out what to do

  • What area do you live in? I have 2 akitas' male (108) and female (68) and in Dallas, Tx. Akitas are great dogs..

  • I live in Richardson are u a breeder?

  • No but I just found out the guy who I got my male isn't breeding Akitas' anymore and he literally gave his last 2 away for free...Im so bummed. You still looking though? Good Luck.

  • Also, there is nothing wrong with your Akita being "aloof" it is natural of the breed.

Prevent them from being aggresive with other dog's and people.

But DO NOT mistake their aloofness with aggresiveness. They maybe more aloof with some people more than other's but they do NOT like having strange dog's on their home turf and will attack if not socialized with other dog's.

  • My akita ALWAYS shyed away from adult stranger's, he wanted nothing to do with them and alway's WATCHED them until they left.

When it came to children, he sat still and calm, licked their faces allowed them to climb and pull on him even though he had severe hip dysplasia.

    Best breed in the world!

  • omg ty!!! i have been looking for a good training guy for my little baby amrican akita hes 5 wks.

  • thanks for the info ...Too bad my akita is almost 10...she's great , but never comes back when I let her off leash....

  • very true ! my akita is gawgous !

i definetly agree to the socilising Akitas need this at a young age !
