Dude, Wizardry 1 is one of the hardest WRPGs I have ever played. Sounds like it just isn't your bag. This video is shocking as hell to me, it is for the better this never came to the states because I would still be playing it.
@twinsclub1 Since they were all originally 3 NES games which don't have that option, this one does not either. You would have to play the original PC versions
Oh boy, Min/Max twink bullshit followed by grind grind grind grind grind grind grind grind ROCKS FALL EVERYONE DIES LOLOLOL. Fuck modern RPGs and their story and characters an fun, BACK IN MAH DAY RPGS WERE FOR REAL GAMERS *slams face into wall 200 times*.
One this game is a peace of cake. I think I was 10 maybe 11 when I beat it the first time. fight small stuff until level 5, find secret door on level 1, go into dark, find room with 3 doors on right , go into the right one, fight guy, get tons of exp and gold, repeat until high level, have two spell caster one priest other mage, max out spells then switch classes, max out spells again, also have thief, and two fighters, find elevator in dark, bottom floor, find boss, fight boss, done.
yeah, first person dungeon crawling RPGs such as wizardry are usually ball bustingly difficult, just sort of have to get used to the game treating you like it's bitch until your characters are strong enough
Scarlet, you do know you have magic spells that can damage entire groups of monsters at one? In fact, there are a couple of spells that can damage every enemy in the current battle. Use those spells to your advantage.
I'm playing "The Dark Spire" on Nintendo DS, which is a lot like Wizardry. Anyone who liked Wizardry and owns a DS should check it out. No, any true RPG fan should check it out.
Your "evil dwarf fighter" could only parry because he was considered a "back row" character. No character in slot 4, 5, or 6 can attack, they can only parry or cast spells. Putting a fighter in one of those slots indeed makes them useless.
Reminds me of Final Fight Revenge for the Arcade as well as the Sega Saturn that were only domestic Japanese releases despite it being made by Capcom USA.
Your party members change to Good when you DON'T fight friendly characters. They change to Evil when you DO fight friendly characters. You do not need to fight the boss on lv4 right away to access the lower levels. You can descend using the stairs at 17E, 7N.
As I recall, you have to defeat the level 4 wizards, etc, because inside that room is an item that lets you go to the door behind the entrance (1st elevator) so you can go behind where you arrived into the 2nd elevator
Umm. Yes But, you don't have to get it if you don't want to.... There are usually 2 ways to go down. 1 Stairs. 2 Elevator. ..... Let me guess, You didn't find the stairs going down past Level 3 huh?
I bet your using a emulater. Use your Dumpamatic Spell (Map spell), Have the emulater be full screen. & take a screen shot. Edit that map in windows paint. You can look at it while you play the game in windowed mode, & it's not cheating at all.
While the Japanese are generally known for enjoying difficult games, ironically their RPGs are tame compared to the western RPGs that inspired them.
Games like Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy were made easier for a more broad audience, especially by having no consequences for death. They're fairly good games but I'm disappointed that they've become the standard, while more intense games like Wizardry are nearly extinct.
Make sure to only use the free stables. Heal with your priest spells, use the stables again, thus getting back the heal spells again until you have everyone fully healed. You don't age at all when you rest for free.
Ahh, wizardry. The last fight you were in and dying repeatedly can be considered the halfway point of the game. Once you win that, you can access the final floors of the game. That said, the mages that kept killing you, you should use "Read" and select each spell to read what they do. First thing I do is have my priest(s)/bishop/lord all cast Montino on the mages. All of them. That'll disrupt their ability to cast. DO it for the clerics too. Focus fire on the ninja, then fighters. :)
Unfortunately, there are no plans at this time for a part 9, (unless another company picks up the license) Last known make was Wiz: Tale of the Forsaken Land for PS2 which was good.
As far as SNES, I would recommend part 5 (which was the only official USA release) that one is the best of the old ones IMHO.
Part 8 was the last one made for PC. WIZ 8 has a more "modern" feel, with a vast overworld (like Elder Scrolls) but still retains the 6 character party and turn-based combat.
My first RPG was Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. Really easy, but it got me into these games. If I had started with this game, it might have turned me off (at age 10). This is the hardest RPG I've ever played (based only on SNES and NES RPGs), but I want to try out the SNES Wizardry games eventually to see how they are. I hear Wizardry 8 (9? 10?) retains its hard difficulty, as it states on the webpage as a warning that it is for Hardcore RPG players only.

Are you sure your Dwarf Fighter was in the first 3 slots? Only the first 3 slots can do melee attacks. The last 3 are for casters/ranged attacks.
Yep this game is insanely difficult. The way true RPG's should be.
I agree the game can become tedious, but on the same token, I wish there were more RPG's being made today with this level of difficulty.
At the risk of sounding arrogant, I must say that every RPG I have played in the past 10 years (except Arx Fatalis) has been a cakewalk.

HOLY CHRIST THERE'S AN ENGLISH OPTION FOR THIS?! *Quickly downloads SNES emu and ROM*
Anyway, I actually had the strategy guide for the first WIzardry on NES. One of the only guides in history that ENCOURAGED you to reset. A lot.
