It's fun to read the comments from people who remember Pizza Pizza Daddy-O & other children's playground rhymes & game songs. I've added this video clip to my online collection of children's rhymes & cheers. Google Cocojams. Several different examples of Pizza Pizza Daddy-O are posted there. I'm interested in collecting, sharing, perserving, studying, & enjoying children's (and others) performances of playground rhymes. If you're interested in a folkloric study of rhymes, please visit that site.
OMG!!!I I used to play pizza pizza daddy-o in music class when i was little in the 90's!! I used to ask other girls if they ever played this game and I would get looked at funny!!! I knew I wasn't crazy!!!! LOL
Precious and irreplaceable! We may retain the memories of a scene like this one, but the audio/video record of it brings back special feelings we had forgotten about. It is a priceless reminder. Bess Lomax's work has enriched my life many times.
EW GROSS, WTF ARE THOSE THINGS DANCING AND SINGING...Fuck! I puke all over my favourite shirt. Its pretty impressive that they've been able to teach such monkey-like creatures how tp dance and sing, though. NIGGERS
What a wonderful clip! Thanks for posting it. The entire film is as great as this clip is.
BarneyFife00 wrote that "Some things change and some things {thankfully} stay the same". As an African American community folklorist who is most interested in contemporary children's rhymes, I believe that there have been a number of changes in the type of rhymes and in the performance of children's rhymes. However, one thing that remains the same is that children are still very creative.
I enjoyed this clip,I'm 47 years old and was 7at the time. I can relate to these girls, singing, dancing and having fun. I remember playing in such harmony with each other. Life was simple and safe, this is history in the African American culture.
OMG! When I was a girl in Tennessee I played all these games - and I'm now 53! Instead of "Tanya Had a Baby," it was "Mary Had Baby." (That was the name of an R&B song.)
Pizza Pizza Daddio-O is soo catchy!! Its true it shows how simple life was. This documentary was inspiration for The Kills single cheap and cheerful too.
i wish life was still as simple and not so cruel everyone would be alot happier. alot safer back then too! i still like pizza pizza daddy o it will be one of my favorties for ever to keep! :D

What memories this recalls.

And "Annie Had a Baby" like Hank Ballard's song.

You're Right. It was :Work with Me Annie, and "Annie had a baby."
Did you ever use "shimmy, shimmy koko bop:" as a refrain in a clapping game? We did. I was much older when I learned it was a song.

Haaa... sure did! And don't forget Miss Mary Mack.
The whole film is online that website mentioned at the end. Priceless stuff!

I know. I downloaded it from the website. I love it.
I didn't forget Miss Mary Mack; I just didn't want to show all my age. :)
