@G0odf3lla It would be close but i dont think chuck could skate he would just wear boots so i call it a draw i mean come on chuck norris would give me 2 thumbs up at once for this one
remember years ago, was at a leafs wings game, kocur and clark would never go. heard they were related or something like that, but it was a first. never seen that before.

I wish they made fighters like this in the modern NHL! I remember it like yesterday....my pops and I would be watching a Ranger game, I be gettin a drink....he'd yell fight and I'd make it back in time to see Kocur level some poor bastard. My only wish is that the linesmen let him and Probert go at it after Joey took off his gear. Would have been classic.
Very good taste in making this video. A great and fast Motorhead song whose title matches the subject....Joe Kocur. I'm so used to seeing cheesy songs being the soundtrack for a sports video, homemade or not. I just saw a cool old-time Babe Ruth video with a symphonic version of "We Are The Champions" - fucking stupid.
@Torch425 You must have a different idea of what T-bagging is, Baumgartner wasn't even under him. Actually, hardly anyone was under him because most of the nasty fist throwing happens before you hit the ground.
Kocur was tough for this era, but Clarke Gillies would of beat the shit out of him had he played in the real tough era of the 1970's. Kocur would have been average.
@mrceebees14 First off Clark is spelled w/o the E so right off the bat I know you have no clue about what your talking about. Hockey 101; Gillies and Kocur played 3 season against one another mind you Gillies was 33 years old when he retired from Hockey after 87-88. So the old man past his prime line wont work here.
So to say he would have beaten the shit out of Kocur and that Kocur would have been average is ridiculous.
@bayardguy Spelling means jack on youtube, that is gay.
They did and Gillies was at the end of his career, read my original post again. He retired after '86 with the Sabres.
Um yeah it does when you are a professional athlete compared to a 22 year old kid. You don't obviously know the wear and tear the NHL puts on an athlete in this sport.
I said he could have taken Kocur, you obviously don't remember Gillies. That is a shame.
Kocur was an absolute beast. I was always terrified for anyone who fought him. Notice how quickly the zebras would get in there once his opponent was down. They knew if he hit someone when they were down he could possibly kill them.
Uh... no. If his uncle is the man that married his aunt, then his uncle's sister would technically be his aunt-in-law (if there were a such thing), but more likely considered a very distant relative.
Kocur had a sledghammer for a right hand. He was scary. He could have boxed professionally if he wanted to. His knockout of Jim Kyte is classic. He was a stone cold bad ass when he dropped the gloves.
No way! Most hockey players would not be good boxers. It takes a lot more than throwing haymakers to be a good boxer. Besides, how hard is it to break an eye socket or cheekbone? Not hard at all.
You get more cuts in hockey because they are not wearing gloves which makes people think hockey fighters throw harder punches which is not true.
ray fought great after the tie down rule.....Rob Ray was the only dude to fight kocur 3x and not get knocked out....sure he lost the fights, but never KO'd
he was one bad dude, crazy to think that he and probert were on the same team at one point, i respect the speed and skill that teams are going for today, but i miss the days of the enforcer
The first wings jersey I ever got was Joey Kocur. I had to get it created because nobody sold one. Even in every hockey video game I every played, I would always create kocur on the team.
joey kocher comes in my dad's shop all the time and he said that his hands r like sausages, the beastliest guy any1 will ever c, lol. im not trying 2 make fun of him but he is a big dude in person. im am not BSing any1
probert couldn't be hurt and got stronger as fights went on, guys would get tired and then it was lights out. Kocur was different, he just punched harder than anyone else out there. he got beat sometimes too, but if he caught you, damn....
kocur had the least losses for all the fights he was in he rarely lossed if anything it was a draw he wouldnt go down and kocur was a really good fighter he trained in boxing alot and he hit like a motherfucker
I remember the day Kocur was traded to the Rangers by the Wings for Kip Miller. Me and a bunch of Flyer fans were in Ft Lauderdale for spring break. As a Flyer fan, we knew Kocur was on the trading block. When we heard Kocur went to the hated Rangers, we were like "ugghh fuck" Not the fucking Rangers!!! Shit, anywhere else but the rangers! It was worse than when the Rangers picked up Chris Nilan. Another fuckin pain in the ass that Flyers fans wished for.
The day the Rangers got Kocur was the day the Rangers stopped getting pushed around. Kris King and Mark Jansens weren't cutting it as enforcers. Then Domi came along. But Joey was the baddest of them all. Brought excitement to the Garden for sure.
As a Flyer fan, I have seen many great hockey fighters. But, Kocur was the best hockey fighter of all time. He was not a "show boater" He would just destroy, set the victim down after he won, and humbly skate off the ice with the smirk on his face. This guy was scary with that jackhammer right.
Downey couldn't hold a candle to kocur or probert. the wings pulled kocur out of a 40+ beer league as an enforcer for the playoffs when they won the cup in 02 (i think), and i remember kocur scored a goal in the playoffs to boot.
Wasn't it a blow from Joey Kocur's right fist that caused The Big Bang that created The Universe??? Seriously, that dude had a fist made from solid lead!
joey kocur is a beast, he could fucking drop you so quick with that right, kocur and probert were the best, bruiser brothers!!! btw get that book its fucking great.
yea man he was a fucking animal i dont know if he is THE best id have to say probert was. but kocur is definitely right there and definitely in the number 2 spot still love him and probie and fuck yea man that book is a must read.
his (right) hand is crazy messed up now, but again, back in the day, he was one of those guys that would hit you with a fist that felt like lead and fireworks. one punch from joey = nighty night.
Pound for pound he was one of the strongest fighters in the NHL. In an interview with Donald Brashear, Brashear described how Kocur had cracked his helmet with his punches, and though his helmet had absorbed most of the blow, he still felt serious pain in his gums, even on the other side of his face, leaving him unable to eat for a day or so.
no.came close once in joey's second tour in detroit when dummy was in toronto.face-to-face,but nope.fact when kocur was with ny and so was domi, he gave domi tips before domi-probert I in 1992.
Every time Joey lands the right, somebody goes down. Kelvington Sask., I am curious to who coaches the boxing club there... Wendyl Clark could toss 'em too, and he was just 190 soaking wet
They sucked when he was coaching??? Buddy, they won the Stanley Cup in 2002 with Joe Kocur as the video coach. That's why he has 3 cup rings - he got the two in '97 '98 and one in '02 as a coach.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
man this video fuckin sucks...the clips dont even finish before the next one begins...a fight weill be half way through and it will just cut off and go to the next...retarded...good job dumb ass
Yeah, someone ough to teach the red wings to fight, or atleast get someone who can. They have too many great player for a team with NO enforcer (Darren is no enforcer).
who needs to fight when your winning Stanley Cups? lol. And they do have Mccarty and Downey. And im sure they will bring Downey up from the minors when they are going to play some talentless team like the Avs...
They need someone to protect Zetterberg and them guys. Red Wings has probably never been this good before. Its in competition with the 97 roster. So they could need someone to protect against possible cheapshots.
One of the great hockey fighters of all time. Vicious right hand. A good guy though and a team player. Never brutalized his victims after he desrtoyed them. Just layed them down and let them bleed.
Joey Kocur was the BEST FIGHTER the NHL has ever seen. Joey Kocur could have been a Pro Boxer in my Opinion because when he hit you, you felt closer to your tombstone. Joey THANKS for the Memories in New York City !! God Bless You Mr. Iron Fist!!!
The Red Wings of the mid 80's to the early 90's were the greatest team I've ever watched...Kocur, Probert, Delorme, Gallant...the toughest team ever...rather have that than a sissy team that wins cups...
bob probert was a great fighter no doubt, but the coccaine made him even more crazier and wild...if joey kocur ever sniffed coccaine like probert did he would have ended up in jail for killing people on the ice...i have so much more respect for kocur.. drugs are for losers...and thats what probert was.. just like twist with the steroids...
I'll never forget the back page of the NY Post when Kocur was acquired. 302 (penalty minutes) and his picture. He quickly became my favorite player. He was ferocious!!
From one NYR fan to another we were blessed to have this guy on our team. He is the best. I like Colton but please Joey was the best. My only regret is that we didnt get him a little younger.
It was said in an article when he was traded to the Rangers, that him and Dave Brown were friends,so Ranger fans don't look for him to drop the gloves.
what does that mean? Bob Probert is his BEST friend and the godfather to his child and they fought. Afterwards Joey called Probert's mother and apologised!! (True story)
you can tell a dude doesnt want anymore when he puts his head down... then you jack him with an uppercut

hockeyplaya2724 3 years ago
Excuse me, I mean 4 cup rings. He got one in New York in '94 also.
Rubba0Band0Man 3 years ago
i dont cus they sucked when he was coaching but that dusnt mean he's not awsome
hockeyplaya2724 3 years ago
They sucked when he was coaching??? Buddy, they won the Stanley Cup in 2002 with Joe Kocur as the video coach. That's why he has 3 cup rings - he got the two in '97 '98 and one in '02 as a coach.

Koco lives fairly close to my wife's family in Brighton.. not far from Woodland lake.
ProfessorIgor 3 years ago
Oh really? I knew he lived around here somewhere.. I wish he was still coaching for Detroit though...
Rubba0Band0Man 3 years ago
Yeah, someone ough to teach the red wings to fight, or atleast get someone who can. They have too many great player for a team with NO enforcer (Darren is no enforcer).
nuevakl 3 years ago
who needs to fight when your winning Stanley Cups? lol. And they do have Mccarty and Downey. And im sure they will bring Downey up from the minors when they are going to play some talentless team like the Avs...
madmike81 3 years ago
They need someone to protect Zetterberg and them guys. Red Wings has probably never been this good before. Its in competition with the 97 roster. So they could need someone to protect against possible cheapshots.
nuevakl 3 years ago
One of the great hockey fighters of all time. Vicious right hand. A good guy though and a team player. Never brutalized his victims after he desrtoyed them. Just layed them down and let them bleed.

i actually have ment joey, he married into my family, hes a real cool guy. but i wouldnt want to fight him, GO RED WINGS 2008 CHAMPS!

Herbonator200 3 years ago
I think if I accidentally bumped into Kocur I'd say "I'm sorry Mr. Kocur, I didn't mean to bump into ya Please excuse me, while I turtle..."

Have any of you ever seen Kocur's knuckles?
I'm pretty sure I'd never get in a fight with a guy who looks like he goes out and bare-knuckle boxes with guys in full plate mail.
punkassguy 3 years ago
His knucles look like ground hamburger
klyydsdale 3 years ago
Yeah his knuckles are a horror show. That's ok it's the mark of a champion lol

What a fighter.
Got to see him once.
Surprisingly strong.
In my 20+ years of watching the Wings, he put the most fear into the opposition I've saw, even more than Probert.
aljanadcob 3 years ago
jeez its like someone throwing a cinder block in your face!
miafan89 3 years ago
Toughest SOB to ever play the game a right hand like a jack hammer!! GO Joey!!!
nativedetroit 4 years ago
the scary thing about kocur is no matter how good a fighter the other guy was, he could end the fight with one punch
elsmalls 4 years ago
I've read somewhere that Kocur and Probert fought each other but when they realized who they had they exchanged softer punches. So i've read.
Ts1398 4 years ago
yeah, during a brawl they ended up with one another and when the realized who they were getting ready to fight they kind of stopped for a second.
nuevakl 3 years ago
They fought 3 times, and they didn't let up on each other. Once they got going, it didn't matter who they fought, they were out for the win.

Probert/Kocur....Tyson/Ali, it will never be settled. god I miss the old days. GO WINGS!

The Red Wings of the mid 80's to the early 90's were the greatest team I've ever watched...Kocur, Probert, Delorme, Gallant...the toughest team ever...rather have that than a sissy team that wins cups...
jbona75 4 years ago 2
Joe Kocur was one of the baddest dudes I've ever seen go in my 30+ years of watching hockey. An all-timer.
RipperNatas 4 years ago 2
bob probert was a great fighter no doubt, but the coccaine made him even more crazier and wild...if joey kocur ever sniffed coccaine like probert did he would have ended up in jail for killing people on the ice...i have so much more respect for kocur.. drugs are for losers...and thats what probert was.. just like twist with the steroids...
rickbeezer34 4 years ago
Hey there's this guy from Boston who says Probert was tougher than Kocur. You guys agree?
alexjames27 4 years ago 2
Fuck no, that guy's a dildo.

Greatest video I ever seen!!!

I'll never forget the back page of the NY Post when Kocur was acquired. 302 (penalty minutes) and his picture. He quickly became my favorite player. He was ferocious!!
Jeff77nyc 4 years ago
From one NYR fan to another we were blessed to have this guy on our team. He is the best. I like Colton but please Joey was the best. My only regret is that we didnt get him a little younger.

no wonder joey's hand is fucked up.

It was said in an article when he was traded to the Rangers, that him and Dave Brown were friends,so Ranger fans don't look for him to drop the gloves.
safetyblitzt 4 years ago
what does that mean? Bob Probert is his BEST friend and the godfather to his child and they fought. Afterwards Joey called Probert's mother and apologised!! (True story)
