  • 8 people are clueless as to what BRILLIANCE sounds like!!!! This people, IS the 21st Century Hendrix, more talent and SOUL in this man than in a decade of the best American Idol could ever hope to produce.

Music by Richie is my soul food and rocket fuel for the day, this is why I listen to him every f***en day without fail!! Wicked talented and humble to handle being that great My # 1. role model NO QUESTION!!.... get him on Leno or Letterman!!!

  • wow!!

  • Arrgghhh matey walk the blank for disrespecting the might TELE

  • From a hardcore Jmii fan, this is GREAT!

  • This was a great show. I remember after the show Huettman and I hung out downtown with George Lynch and discussed the name of his new album. Unfortunately it was the same name as one of Marks best songs. . Ritchie is a great guitarist., and a local homeboy.. BTW...Leigh guitars rule!

  • I understand that he is a very clean player, but thats surely partly due to his equipment. So does anyone know what makes his guitar sound so direct?

  • @Suckyea He basically plugs in strait to the amp. He only uses a delay sometimes, at least that's what he said. Also, I think I've heard him use a wah, but I'm not sure...

  • @filipequintas so youre saying he doesnt use processor and that stuff?

  • @Suckyea I'm not sure. Watch the video on the side with the title "Richie Kotzen Gear Tour" he explains all that stuff.

  • @Suckyea now he is using some more gain boxes due to his 20watt marshalls he is using and building.

  • @Suckyea His amps are fucking CRANKED!

  • @Suckyea No it isn't, just good (amazing) technique.

  • @Suckyea I'm pretty sure the only thing he uses is some delay and reverb through his effects loop. At least that's what I've seen in a video of him showing his rig. As for overdrive, he just cranks his amps and uses the volume knob to clean up. You can see him doing it a little in this vid.

  • i know a lot of folks like this, and to each his own, but i have to say that this is the worst rendition of this song i have ever heard. this song has been covered so many times and this is the first time i have not liked it. no matter how hard or soft others have played this, they always made it sound sweet. to me this sounds like nothing but scratch. maybe its just a poor recording. but i think not.

  • @mtnthai GTFO

  • @IamAlexG i specifically said, to each his own, and offered my opinion. your response is GTFO? i am so glad that you are so tolerant of differing opinions, your open mind is so refreshing. NOT! everyone has a bad day. i think this was a bad day for Richie. may be he needs to listen Dylan play it again, or Jimi, or Gary Moore, or Dave Mason, or ................................ anyone else.

  • @mtnthai

I mean this honestly and whole-heartedly, if you cannot hear what is good about this particular performance by this particular artist then my advice to you is to listen to a lot more music. Forget what you think you know. Research by sound and by history absolutley everything from dubstep to Baroque. LEARN to appreciate EVERYTHING then in several years time listen to this performance again and post here once more. peace, John

  • how can you not like this youtube??!! i listen strickly to heavy metal, MetallicA, Megadeth, Children of Bodom, Killswitch Engage etc etc...yet this video is AMAZING!!! so much talent in this guy

  • my hero

  • Richie Sparrow.

  • this is sooo awesome!!!!

  • id u kurac

  • who new Jack sparrow could shred? lol

  • His Telecaster is SO beautiful...but the neck on that thing looks freakin huge even from here!

  • @RicardoDiazHimself I have both his Tele and his Strat and the necks are indeed huge...almost like tree trunks scraped of all their bark. Lmao. He was quoted as saying that he opted for the thickest necks that Fender would allow on a production model while still allowing them to sell a few. Ha!

  • What a great sound!!

  • I love this video

  • What camera are you using? thanks

  • What a killer voice

  • pirate hahahaha... like jack sparrow

  • @synth002 i can see how you'd think that, but i just met him and got to know him this past week and let me assure you, he's SO incredibly modest and down-to-earth. he's a sweetheart with immense talent. i love the guy!

  • @FallenFreckles7 - Thats good to know, seeing as I constantly listen to and take so much inspiration from his music! In fact, im gonna delete that comment.. not because anyone has complained, just because I would hate for him to think I ment it out of spite!

  • fodaaaaaaaaaaa

  • he looks like a pirate, i like it though.

  • @POLDUSTLEAD I think that might actually be a bad bug with YT, I am seeing this on alot of videos recently.

  • RK is such a fantastic singer/musician.

Definitely not just another generic shredster.

He's a f'n rockstar who just exudes confidence and passion in his singing and playing.

  • SICK!!

  • I didn't realise Captian Jack Sparrow could rock like that!!!

  • xd!

  • this guy is.... the man...amazing

  • I don't care whether he is Jazz, Fusion, Blues/ Rock. Whatever. I know what he is. One BAD ASS S.O.B.! Does anyone else get the vibe that Ritchie Kotzen is what John Mayer wishes he could be.

  • he just keeps on getting better & better, awesome performence.AMAZING FEEL!

  • Has he done any DVDs of his shows?

  • Live in Brazil from 2007(or 2008?) is the only one that i know of.

  • Thanks. His videos on here sound kinda rough since we can't much hear the bass line.

  • Awesome vocals here.

  • Amazing!

  • Awesome version!

Richie is one talented dude! This guy should be a huge star!

  • He is... its just that hes really underrated on the commercial stage... on the jazz and blues guitar shredding world, specially on jazz, hes one of the most renamed guitar players out there...

  • I don't think he is considered to be a huge name in the Jazz world. In the Solo Rock Guitar world maybe, but not the Jazz scene.

  • Dude

1.- He has a lot of compositions, jams and tone for the music,

2.- He has played with Greg Howe, Frank Gambale, Chad Wackermann, among other (all of them jazz guitar heros)

3.- He is absolutely even more gifted in that area...

Check his entire stuff and youll be surprised

  • Hey, He has done a couple projects with Greg Howe which isn't considered a Jazz hero, but a Rock Fusion guy. To my knowledge he has never played with Gambale which is another great fusion player. I actually have Kotzen's entire catalog. He is more of a Rootsy Blues/Rock guy. He did do a slight Jazz/Classical/Fusion project called Vertu. He did one solo album in the vein of the Kotzen/Howe stuff which would be considered fusion. I love Kotzen's music, but he isn't a Jazz guy by any means.

  • Well good points but i never said hes a jazzy kind of musician... obviously theyre not his basis, but he is renounded on that escene, very, thats why he has jammed with such great jazz heros... anyway hes an overall fantastic guitar player with a beautiful voice... Sorry if i was misunderstood, but anyway you know some stuff, glad to talk to someone with music sense and knowledge... have you uploaded something live out of that catalog you have?

  • While I would agree with your assessment I'd just like to add that any guitar player that could stand on stage opposite the legendary Stanley Clarke is worthy of note.

  • So far, the coolest cover of this tune I've heard.

  • i like the soulfull take on the rythym....great tone....and some kick ass burning that is sympathetic to the songs chords. great stuff

  • House of Richies blues...

  • 2.30... chills--- great voice... way to go richie!!!

  • richie has a terrific voice. much like hedges, richie continues to push the limits of his musical creativity. makes me almost wish he would put down the guitar all together though and be a vocalist primarily. it's not that he isn't good on guitar. his guitar playing is superb. it's because of hedges unfortunate accident several years ago. being a guitar player makes you drive yourself to the edge of what is both safe and sane.

  • LOL, Jack Sparrow! Much better than his old look in the 90's..

  • who are the bassist and the drummer in this video??

  • David Filice on bass and Demian Arriaga on drums ;-)

  • For me the best rock- funky-blues guitar player on earth.

  • Sounds like the opening to Beast of Burden -- he's been hang'in with the Stones too long.

  • incredible vocals, cool arrangment. killer ending lick.

  • orangesu78=tool

  • Captain Jack Sparrow on vocals and lead guitar...

  • You should take into consideration this was one of the last shows of the tour.

Apart from that, I bet that, at his 'worst', Richie still sounds about a 100 times better than any of us at our best. Including you.

  • really nice! i was on that concert in SD, i actually was on the opposite side of the guy who filmed this, infront of the bassist :) it was great, the 3 of them played really awesome

  • I think he was perfect....

  • I think it is awesome.

  • i dig this cover. i like what he did with the chord prog, and missing the 7th.

  • Actually he's using a mi7th. for the I chord, and he's switching between a major and a sus4 chord on the bVI chord.

  • Comment removed

  • Considering that the bVI is a lydian mode, a sus4 would be the last thing it is. Maybe you meant to say sus2 since he's moving between sus2's and add9's there.

  • hes so awesome, he like was an insane shreedder in the 80s now hes really exciting, hes so awesome at singing

check out his soul band.... i think its called Wilson Hawk

  • i saw the concert they did at the house of blues in anaheim and i heard paul gilbert and george lynch before, both great guitarists but i've never really listened to richie kotzen and he blew my freakin mind away! great guitarist AND a great singer. he would be a perfect guy to go on a tour with gilbert

  • One of the best!

  • He rocks it all the way! Can't wait for may 2nd!!!

  • A Legend..

  • Awesome! I love it!

  • my new fav guitarist!!!

  • check out his Electric Joy album if you haven't. it's a guitar players paradise

  • Agree with you. Severeal of my ever-favorite Kotzen tunes are there

  • I agree with exsgt33! Wake up America. Kotzen really reminds me of Prince here. I saw him play at HOB in Los Angeles on Feb. 28. So good!!!

  • h`is nr. 1... !

    Odd from Norway

  • Kotzen is an amazing talent. WAKE AMERICA!!!!!
