meningitis is not a blood infection, its an infection of the sacks that cover the brain. I know ive had it, i was one of the lucky 19% who comes out untouched

She had meningococcal septicaemia this happens when the Meningococcus bacteria that cause the meningitis enter into the blood stream and cause a blood infection (sepsis). This is why she suffered renal failure and also had to have her legs amputated, she is very lucky to be alive.

@KaylinJH The comment was previously noted - that meningitis in this case did go into a blood infection, which then went into septic shock/sepsis and then went into severe sepsis with organ failure. Bacterial meningitis is a very rapid onramp to sepsis, but it is not the only one - any infection can go septic and have similar outcome. Meningitis is so dangerous since Amy and others can go septic in less than 24 hours.

Very inspirational. I love the part about how when you face a hardship you can do one of two things.

1) Let it beat you down, or

2) Get creative and discover a way to use it to your advantage. Amy was faced with a problem but she decided to keep living her life anyways.
