When I was a young man in my 20,s I met a girl in the UK whose father had been a member of the Waffen SS serving as tank commander. He was a marvelous man and I consider myself privileged to have met him.
He explained that the ordinary people were not aware of the camps as they were involved in a total war to save their nation. He also told me that the generation that grew up with the Nazis were subject to propaganda that blinded them to reality. Hence my previous post.

He killed a lot of people but at the same time he was extremely intelligent and believed what he was doing was the right thing. Auschwitz in the summer of '44 was gassing 10,000 people a day - what difference did killing Heydrich in '42 make?

The nazi's were still brutal without him but he was planning to exterminate the whole slavic race for instance. After him there was no person smart and sick enough to take such initiative among the nazi's, not even Adolf himself.
It is also a sign of defiance to a brutal murderer and an inspirational deed for free people.

To make any difference what needed to change was the policy itself and that only could have happened by toppling the Nazi government - not Heydrich, who was just a cog in the killing machine.
It wasn't inspirational. The Czech partisans betrayed each other like cowards and were never as effective again.

He gave the Czechs besser living conditions, social security measures like in Bismarcks time, than the Czechs ever could themselves. The Germans are an advanced people and he showed them how! @dutchgoing Youre a bigot--bigotry against the Germans is still bigotry. Hitler declared Rome an open city and protected Florence while the Allies had no regard for it. The Allies killed thousands of French citizens and hundreds of thousands of German citizens while destroying cities BECAUSE they had cultural worth. The Americans and English are responsible for starting the war plus all this senseless destruction while Hitler sought to make the East bountiful--what the Russians couldnt achieve.

@dutchgoing How could the Nazis destroy most of Europe?--With what Luftwaffe anyways? Hitler didnt want his Panzer tanks to go through to Dunkirk because he wanted to avoid destroying Brussels. Hitler protected the big cities and the Allies destroyed culture--Dresden, Hamburg, Berlin, München, Cologne, Stuttgart, Paris the list goes on.
